Round 1 Match: Psycho vs. Jaws

The polls will close for this match on Friday, October 19 at 12:00am

Love him or hate him, Steven Spielberg is all over this tournament, and his 1975 shark attack classic is still scarring people away from taking a dip in the ocean. And then there's Alfred Hitchcock, with one of his 60's masterpieces that has become as iconic as the film industry itself. Two films that ruled the 60's and 70's, respectively, but only one of them can leave the first round. Will Hitchcock's killer take a stab at the Spielberg shark tale, or will the great white take a bite out of Psycho?

Da da.... Da da.... Da da...dadadadadadada.....!I tried

Jaws is one of the most iconic movies of all time. Its also one of the most talked about. There should be no reason it shouldn't move on to the next round. Especially against Psycho. Yeah, it was a very good movie for its time. But, Jaws was and still is flat out amazing.

They're somewhat similar, just a different kind of monster but about equal in terms of quality. When faced with such a choice, I tend to go with the more personal and innovative. In this case that would be Psycho.

Both of these movies are pretty much horror flicks. So, they should be compared by their mastery of horrifying their audiences. Now, since both are masterpieces of their genre, we need to look at it a different way.

Psycho was a classic and was definitely scary for its time period. But, after watching it, I was still able to go about my normal life. It's not like it made me afraid to take a shower or stay in a hotel room.

On the other hand, Jaws made me afraid to ever step into a natural body of water again. To this day, I'm afraid of being eaten by a shark when I'm in the ocean.

Jaws for the win.

I think D-Man just made my decision making a hell of a lot easier between these two.

As much as I was freaked out by the last few frames of Psycho, Jaws has left a legacy that still endures in people's psyche today when they face the water, and was also arguably the first big summer blockbuster. That's enough for me.

Sorry Bruce, as shit a shark as you were, Spielberg still overcame your rubbery uselessness.
