Long ass poll. Voted for by fans, so some of the choices are a little odd. Iron Man wouldn't be in this if it hadn't come out recently. Same for Crystal Skulls. The top 10 is as good as you're going to get when you let fans vote. You can make a couple of arguments for a couple, but that's a more than solid top 10.

The Dark Knight is the highest entry for a recent film. Undeservingly. Not saying it shouldn't be in the top 500, it should. Easily. It just shouldn't be that high up.

The placing itself doesn't really matter. You expect it to be fairly nuts when thousands of people contribute with their personal taste. I was kind of surprised that Fight Club in the top ten - with the Lion King over 300 places behind - but it was a pleasant surprise. The fact that an Indiana Jones movie is the second best movie of all time wasn't, but it's not absolutely appalling.

The more quizzical stuff were to be found in just what movies people had put in their all-time top ten. I mean, some would put Pan's Labyrinth and Pulp Fiction in, and then others would put in pieces of shit like 300 and The Phantom Menace. I'd expect they'd have to get at the very least a few dozen votes to get in too, which baffles me even further.

Oh, and The Dark Knight is overrated to fuck. Number fifteen? Fuck off. I'm beginning to dislike the movie from the sheer amount of undeserving ass-licking it's getting constantly. This coming from a guy who went to see the movie twice - once in IMAX - and has a poster a-waitin' to be framed of it.

Any list which fails to place anything from Fellini, Tarkovsky, and Kurosawa in the top 25 is dubious at best. If you want to see what a greatest films list should look like I would recommend anything put out by Sight and Sound (the magazine of the British Film Institute).

#26 should be higher. Dr. Strangelove was such a classic film, and I felt it was Kubrick's best. Better than Space Odyssey.

I don't lend much creedence to a "top 500" list. A top 100, maybe, but this is just exhaustive. I mean, a Pirates of the Caribbean sequel made a list for the 500 best films of all time? I don't think so.

While I didn't read through the whole list, the top 10 is about as solid as its going to get. Those movies are just plain classics and they'll be on every one of these lists for the rest of time. However, #15 annoys me to no end. It's been out less than 6 damn months. Other than that, the only other movies in the top 50 that are in this millenium are LOTR movies, at 5-7 years. TDK is overrated to me, end of story. Its great, yes, but not better than movies such as Gone With The Wind, Star Wars, Godfather II or Casablanca. With Ledger being alive, this movie might crack the top 75, but that's a stretch.

I personally would have liked to see Psycho alittle higher but it's my favorite movie so of course I would. I personally think Star Wars & Indiana Jones are rated to high imo, but alot of people like them so that's why they are so high. Psycho is placed just right. The remake showed that Hitchcock did better films. If the remake is a shot for shot remake, with just an added wank, then why is that shit and the original is a classic?

Psycho is a classic because of how it impacted the times. During the 60's when it came out it pushed the boundaries. The acting was great and Anthony Perkins was the best he ever was. On the AFI chart(American Film Institute) its ranked 19, and personally that's where it should be in terms of film making, and cultural impact.

Considering that is was voted on by the public, the results are extremely well done. I'm glad that my personal favorites like Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, and Die Hard rated high. Some thngs are obviously out of place, like Fight Club being number 10, but really, what more can you ask for from an opinion poll that could have been voted on by virtually every kind of movie watcher out there?

People simply have different tastes. Just look at all the legions of people who think 300 is the greatest movie of all time (not that 300 was terrible, but come on).

These are my biggest complaints. I'm not saying all these movies suck, but they should not be where they are listed. Actually most the list is just wrong. Who the hell took this poll? And no Blow?!?! Come on!

I like seeing an updated list, unlike AFI's which always has those old boring films in the top 10. Sure they were great at the time and are still good, but we've had better movies in the past 10 years that are more riveting, compelling, thought provoking, etc. Get with the times AFI!

It's only natural that films from not long ago will get into the rankings. 500 is broad, so it's easy for newer films to slip in. But the older ones will always make it into roughly the right spot.
