Occasional Pre-Show
Ok so I was watching raw and as everyone knows Zack Ryder was actually used, it wasn't the best match obviously cause Cole isn't a wrestler but the part of the match that caught me was zack's finisher the "rough Ryder" that was one of the worst finishers I've ever seen, my question to u is do you like it or think it should be changed, I think it should be some Verision of the DDT and he could rename it to be the iced Z

It often looks a lot sharper. It was sort of a Leg Liaret Head Sissors cross. Mainly because Cole had no ability to sell it, or hold Zack up for a moment. Personally, I wish he had hit the broski boot, Cole could have sold that better.

But Zack got a rub from a heel with heat, and won on RAW, and JR called it, so I'm not gonna quibble!

It was all cole I watch superstars and when he does it on there it looks better. I blame it on the untrained waste of space cole... Wish his match was against someone else but at least he shut cole up. Wait wasn't this a bash cole thread lol.

The Rough Ryder is a great finisher for Zack Ryder, for any wrestler actually

It is suitable for use on big guys and little guys, the only reason it didn't look so hot tonight was because Michael Cole is not a trained wrestler, he is an on screen character only.

The only thing that matters is that Ryder was on television this week, on Monday Night Raw!.....and he won a match!!! :D :D :D

It did look weak..But Michael Cole is Lame..If someone is getting tv time and wants more they should make a better impression other then 2 moves, pin, victory pose..If WWE is smart they would make a stable with Zack Ryder,CM Punk,Colt Cabana (if their bringing him in wtf) and some former flop stable nexus members...Give it a Outsider like invasion through the crowd...Just my opinon

Its a strong finisher that can be hit from nowhere & be teased easily, Cole couldn't sell it properly which is to be expected when you aren't a trained wrestler.

Well, I guess he could have made more of the opportunity UNLESS they told him that was the booking. And they did take a long time doing that funny No Game entrance, so I'm sure it was ring the bell wrap it up. Don't want to ruin whatever chance you might get by appearing to be selfish or not follow direction.

But yeah, it was totally on Micheal 'No Game' Cole for making the Rough Ryder look so bad

Is it just me or did he get very little reaction from the crowd, and most ppl had a uh who is this look on their faces... minus the small crowd who started the ryder chant. Guess he's not as over as being all over the IWC would make it seem.

Anyways though, the finisher looked like shit because cole is garbage, it did seem kind of cool though so maybe if he hits it better next time it'll be awesome to see. I think he's got some potential though so we'll see what happens... he seems to really be into what he's doing so I hope for only the best for him.

Im assuming since it was given to cole, thats the reason it looked weird. Cole didnt know how to take it

It was exactly that Cole didn't know how to sell the move, if you watch his other matches on Superstars, which I hope you were the move looks decent it's not one of the greatest finishers ever but it's a finisher.

I personally think he should go back to the Zack Attack. Sure, it looks a little like MVP's old finisher, but his not using it in WWE anymore and it looked way more painful than the Rough Ryder does. Rough Ryder should be a signature move, but Zack Attack should be his finsher.

ryder isisnt that over, the internet just makes it seems as he as over as cena. But atleast he has a fan base to start with. It also seems he dosent have much trust in him to put him in a weak match like vs cole... :/

Despite a 26 second match against Cole, he got a decent "Lets go Ryder" chant from the fans. Not a pop when he made his entrance because I genuinely think people were shocked that it was Ryder for the match. If you cancel out all the other superstars that were on Raw this week, cancel out the heels(because Cole draws heat), youre left with A-Ry, Masters, Santino, and Kozlov as other options. Throw in Swagger because of their history but the E isnt going to turn Swagger face anytime soon. A-Ry doesnt have anything going right now since Miz beat him clean last week, Masters hasnt been on Raw in weeks, and Santino or Kozlov should stay together as a tag team but the E hates tag teams and will throw anyone together. Ryder was the perfect choice in FINALLY bringing him in full time to Raw. Everyone has to start from the bottom and work their way up. Ryder can finally start to climb the ladder and be a legit contender for the US title soon enough. As far as the Rough Ryder finish, IT WAS TO MICHAEL COLE FFS. In his what 5 matches has he EVER took a move decently?

He can't do it anymore because it's too dangerous apparently.

As others have said, it's a good, inovative move that can be used on anyone {except as we now know, Mr. Cole}. I think he should keep the rough rider. :)

Anyone who thinks ryder's first win being a squash over Cole is a bad idea isn't thinking critically. Let's see, who is a top 10 heel in the company, who won't look bad by losing, and Ryder won't look ridiculously good by winning (in case he doesn't get over with the mainstream)? Michael Cole is the perfect answer.

Sure his finish looked a little shaky because of Cole, but who gives a shit? Not only that, but finisher's don't have to be devestating looking to be awesome. They just have to make the crowd shit their pants when it happens and preferably something that doesn't require a ton of set up and can be done to anyone. The Rock Bottom is very simple, the FU, Hogan Leg Drop, even the superkick is pretty simple.

The Rough Ryder is a brilliant finisher, it's just the way Cole sold it it looked worse than usual. Go watch Superstars and look at how he did it to Otunga, and you'll see it's a great finisher.

Yeah, as everyone is saying here, it's the ability of Michael Cole that made the move look worse than usual. Usually, the move looks pretty good and that's coming from someone who doesn't even like Ryder. But he's got a good finisher, which is a surprise. It's not terrible, not great, but it works.

I'm just going to discuss Zack Ryder's Raw appearance in general in here. That's what I had in mind when coming into this thread and so that's what I'm going to do. If you have a problem with this, please feel free to PM me.

I'm not sure how I feel about Ryder's Raw appearance. Searching deep inside, I think I was completely indifferent. Sort of like the audience, I suppose. I hate to be that guy, but the crowd seemed pretty cold - and this was after Michael Cole did his own version of Triple H's entrance, which I still don't quite see the logic behind.

I'm not Ryder's biggest fan but I do like the guy and I like the company he keeps. I'm wondering if he's being set up to fall with these sporadic, meaningless appearances or if this is just a really misguided attempt to push him.

And yes, his finisher is a little bit shit. Michael Cole took it surprisingly well, mind.

Did you just ignore what everyone already pointed out? The finisher is fine, Cole just didn't/couldn't sell it. Watch the end of this match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDoWagPgY6w

I think him beating Cole was perfect. If they want to see if Ryder can make it on Raw as a regular Superstar, they need to bite the bullet and do it, which is what they look to be doing. Having him beat Cole in a quick squash is perfect to build a little momentum with him. Trust me, my dad, who has been a huge wrestling fan for 50+ years, doesn't know that Ryder is an internet 'sensation' with a loyal following, but he'll know that Ryder is the guy who beat Cole (who he absolutely hates) this week. If Ryder fights someone next week (Swagger?) and wins, it won't seem like such a shock, thanks to a simple 1 minute match this week.

It was smart.

Oh come on Sam, that was pretty funny. It's their way of showing HHH messing with him. I'm actually not that surprised. When he said he had something picked out, HHH's gear was the first thing I thought of. Great song too.

I think it had to do with the Comic Con thing. CM Punk mentioned him, and the IWC went crazy about it. Since the IWC is Ryders only fans, they tried to please them a bit, which as you could hear, were the only one's cheering for him. Also, if he "Fights" anyone next week, I would be surprised actually.

Is his finisher the worse? No. I've actually said for a while now that it's either Wade, or Rey that has the worst one.

Had the same experience with rider at last week's RAW in Green Bay (he did a Superstar's taping). He just didn't get the pop. I don't think that's any indication that he couldn't get it, though. He just needs some exposure on TV so that people have some idea of how they feel about him.

It's really all about the location. I was in Boston for Raw a couple weeks back and Ryder got a huge pop on Superstars, one of the best of the night. There were also sporadic Ryder chants during Raw, especially during the 6-man tag match with the MitB participants.

One quick fix to help Ryder would be to change/rearrange his theme song, as it's not something that makes people want to get out of their seats (except for the IWC.) I'd love to see him with a new song, even if it doesn't come with a push. Hell, if Justin Gabriel can get a new song every week Ryder should be able to get at least one.

I'm sorry, but the Rough Ryder does not look like a finisher to me. Is it an impressive display of athleticism? Yes. But the impact doesn't look like it should put anyone down for the count. Especially not when Super Cena does a nearly identical move from the top rope and it's never been the finish of a match.

But of course this is the company that gives us the Cobra as a "legit" finishing move, so at least the Rough Ryder is a few steps above that. I do miss the Zack Attack which I thought looked way better, but if its dangerous I understand. I have no idea what I would replace it with, but I know that when I see it it just seems so ho hum to me.

As for the reactions: Ryder does well in Smarky cities. Once he gets into the blue collar wrestling bread and butter areas, he doesn't play as well. That shouldn't be surprising. Look at the Cena effect. The places he gets ripped apart (NYC, Chicago, Boston, Miami etc) are all places Ryder gets pops for. Green Bay and Hampton, Virginia....that's a much different ball of wax.
