Roman Reigns Title Drought

ASKane

Championship Contender
On October 14th 2013 Roman Reigns lost the only title he has held on the Main roster when he and Rollins lost to Goldust and Cody Rhodes. Now 571 days later, over a year and half he has not held another title within the WWE and this should not be the case as he should have had a run with the US or IC title by now to establish himself as a main event star and it would have been good if he had been carrying one into the Rumble and vacated it to focus on dealing with Lesnar but instead WWE decided to propel him to the main event scene and caused a lot of fans to turn on him because of it, this decision meant that by Mania the crowd were against him however if he had to work for the spot with a few months as a midcard champ I feel as if the crowd would not have been so hostile with him in that spot. I know his injury meant it was difficult for him to get this run with the title but it didn't seem something that was on the cards anyway

Your Thoughts on him only holding 1 title, no singles title, going 571 days without a title, how it would have impacted his career and how you would have done this differently.

While I do see what you're saying being as the journey up the card is always interesting, both midcard belts would be a step down for now and holding one of them while being in the Shield would mean nothing. I mean look what it did for Ambrose, if anything it made him the number 2 guy in the faction and helped lower the US title more.

BUT I like the idea on the WWE's behalf. If there's anything we've learned over the past few years it's that when the fans feel you're being held back, you get over. Roman Reigns has failed 3 times now if I remember correctly. Remember how well Daniel Bryan's failure to get the title got him over? If the WWE is smart, they'll keep this going. Reigns just barely fails time and again until he finally gets the belt maybe at Survivor Series or Wrestlemania?

I say the night after payback Reigns takes on John Cena's open challenge for the U.S. Title. He doesn't need the win but it will make him look like a contender to the U.S. Title and the IC title whenever that comes back to TV.

He's technically the Current Royal Rumble Champion which Is a Title so it's not been 571 like you said. A King Of The Ring or a Royal Rumble Winner both count as Titles or Championships so he doesn't have a Drught going on what so ever.

Rowdy Roddy Piper was on the WWE roster in what, 1983? And didn't hold a title until he won the Intercontinental Championship in 1992, and then the World Tag Team Championship in 2006. It's not quantity, it's quality.

I think he's been fine without a title. The Shield were bigger than the tag team titles which is why they lost the titles and moved on to getting more involved in major storylines like CM Punk vs. The Authority and Bryan vs. The Authority.

Unfortunately, being a secondary champ like IC or US doesn't guarantee you'll be a part of a major storyline. Even when Ambrose was US Champ for months, the belt was like a decoration.

....but instead WWE decided to propel him to the main event scene and caused a lot of fans to turn on him because of it....

I can see your point, yet the fact Roman's destiny was pre-planned and different than just about everyone else's was probably the reason he didn't win.....or even need.....lesser titles along the way.

He was the chosen one, more than Drew McIntyre could ever have been. Based entirely on that amazing look of his, he was being rocketed directly toward the world championship at WM31, and when the company made the mistake of keeping him on that trajectory even when injury slowed his progress, they didn't waver in their goal until right before the big event when someone finally convinced Vince McMahon the guy just wasn't ready. No matter what Roman said in that "WWE 24" show, he must have been crushed by the news, even while probably realizing it was the right decision.

I say that everything that usually goes into building a young contender into a main event performer was put aside for Roman Reigns; WWE had a specific goal for him.....and it was the world title. He didn't need the IC, US or Tag Team belts getting in his way as she shot toward the top.

my only real thoughts on Reigns are that he should've won the year before he did. I'm not a Batista hater or disliker or anything like that, but seeing him as one of the names of people who have won it twice just looks wrong to me. That Rumble was the worst

I think the guy has gotten a bad deal another promising rising star instead of holding off till maybe wrestlemania next year to main event the WWE decided to push way too early and resulted in everyone turning against him and booing him out of the building, Which was WWE's fault not really Romans fault and he appears to be caught in the middle of it.

Was it even too early? The boos at that Rumble stemmed almost entirely from Daniel Bryan being eliminated, rather than anything against Reigns as a winner. i'm a fan of Daniel Bryan but I found that crowd's reaction to be completely pathetic

I was there, and I say you're wrong. The crowd $h!t all over the Rumble because the two most over wrestlers in WWE, Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler, were both booked to look like absolute garbage, while Roman Reigns took a nap in the corner for 20 minutes, did nothing, and won the match to get into a main event he was nowhere NEAR ready for, and proved it at WrestleMania when he gave one of the worst performances in Mania history. The crowd would have loved if Bryan or Ziggler won, but also would have accepted just about anyone except Roman Reigns.
