Ric Flair and his overuse of "nut shots"

Post

I've always loved Ric Flair's role as "The Dirtiest Player in the Game," but what the hell is going on with the nut shots lately.

It seems like every time Natch is in the ring he goes directly for the junk. Again, I realize that he is "The Dirtiest Player in the Game," but isn't there something he can do to make him look a little less pathetic.

I can understand the occasional nut shot. Make it anticipated, not expected. Hell he can do a number of cheap shots...clip the leg, poke somebody in the eye, chop a throat, handful of salt.

I realize that nut shots build heat and make him more hated. But at this point is anyone going to really hate him as a true heel? He is the most decorated world champion of all time...does he really have to resort to slapping somebody's bean bag every night?

What do you think? Are the nut shots out of hand?

No it's typical Ric Flair. He always went for the low blow and it's an effective tool because as a male dominant audience, we can empathise with a crotch shot. When done well, it looks devastatingly painful, like all great offense.

The salt was always Mr Fuji's trick and the eye poke was Roddy Pipers. While he could clip a leg (a great set up for a leg submission), he is staying out of the ring, letting AJ do the in ring work and is not in ring (thankfully) to be involved.

The Nut Shot has always been a huge part of the Ric Flair moveset. Hell, during the Evolution days, there wasn't single match those guys had that didn't involve a nut shot. Hell, one of Ric Flair's video game finishers is The Grapefruit Claw lol.

They've always been out of hand. But that's the best part about it.

That is one of Flair’s signature moves. The Dirtiest Player in the Game fights dirty, and what’s dirtier than punching a guy in the nuts?

He doesn’t overuse them either. He does it once per person, per brawl. Dusty Rhodes’ elbow, Piper’s eyepoke, Hogan’s back rake, The hard chop across the chest….all old school signature moves. Flair’s nut shot is great to see again. Flair has been WOOOOOOOOO on fire lately, and I’m enjoying every minute of it.

The nut shot is a Flair staple. I wouldn't get my nuts in a bunch over it (pun intended). It builds heat and it gives that "oooh damn" reaction. He's been doing it for years so its not a big deal.

The nut shots made Flair what he is today. That's how everybody around the world knows Ric, he is the dirtiest player in the game,He was and he still is. Tell me something whats Ric Flair with out his nut shot. He is nothing without that Gimmick.

So shit I don't mind seeing Flair's low blowing all the opponents that he faces. Ric is one of the best cheaters in the wrestling business because of that.

Taking the Nut Shots away from Flair would be like taking the Jumping Knee Smash away from Triple H or taking the "slam the chair on the ground and then toss it to the opponent as you drop to the mat" from Eddie Guerrero. It's just not right. It's a spot that you wanted to see Flair do, because, in the words of Michael Cole, it's Vintage Flair. I honestly can't remember a match where he didn't do it.

Its what he has been doing for years and shouldn't stop it now. Besides would you want to see a 60 yr old guy if Flair is 60 yet. Would you want him to beat up guys like the Pope or Joe cleanly? No way it makes it more believable to give them a blow to the nuts. We all know no matter the age or how big you are that anyone would go down. So in that since Flair looks dirty and Joe or whoever comes off looking good. No one is going to fault anyone from getting a shot in the pills and then crashing to the mat.

It's always been such a big part of his move-set. He always will continue to do it, whether we like it or not because that's one of the main things that has made him the dirtiest player in the game. Ric Flair's an old old wrestler to, so this does make him look more realistic instead of having him look fictional.

Nope, Ric is the low blow king and will always be that way, and always has been, the low blow is his trademark, so he will use it at any opertunity.

Hell, it would be interesting to see approximately how many low blows he has done in his career, it must be way into the 1000's.

Its what gives him the dirtiest player in the game gimmick, face it, he is a 60 year old man, he isnt gonna last the pace with the young guys so he hits them where it hurts.

He has won championships like this by turning the tide from a low blow, he sometimes does it for the hell of it I think.

Here are 4 of his best, LMFAO

One thing I wouldn't agree on though is sometimes he actually GRABS the testicles.

I think it was Carlito he did it too, a little bit too "hands on" if you get me.

It's part of his gimmick man, it's what he does. While it may seem like overkill to some, that's a GREAT THING. Its getting him over more as a heel manager, which is the intended purpose, pissing us off. When he was a face during the end of his WWE career, he used it frequently on heels, and noone complained. The hatred of it is garnered because he's a heel again for the first time in 4 years.

The other thing is this: How many times did the old "Nature Boy" turn the tide in title matches in the 80's with low blows? Alot. He was the dirtiest player in the game before he ever officially ever earned that moniker. If you've ever been hit in the nuts, which I guarantee any man has at least once, it knocks the wind out of you. This opened the door for Flair to employ his "offense", helping him either win or retain his championships.

Like it or not, this has always been a "VINTAGE" Ric Flair move to help him gain the upper hand, heel or face, whether in a talking segment, or a match itself. It garners hatred for him as a heel, and cheers as a face. Flair wouldn't be the same without employing it, honestly.

Ric Flair is the dirtiest player in the game and that is what he is known for best. Raking the eyes and using low blows. He's been using and overusing them forever and that is not going to change anytime soon. Styles has seemed to imitate Ric Flair in every shape, form, and fashion so I wouldn't be surprised if he starts using them as well to gain an edge in his matches to further his heel character.

I do think Flair did it a little too often, as it does seem repetitive when done in each of his matches. When that happens frequently, it loses its shock value.

Since Flair won't be a regular in-ring performer, he will obviously be cutting back on the number of times you see it, but he still will do it frequently, nonetheless, as a manager for AJ Styles.

I would prefer him to vary his cheap shots, personally, because when you see him do low blows every time, it just gets old after a while.
