Repackaging Fandango

Championship Contender
Looks like Fandango and Summer Rae called it quits....via Twitter. That's a wrestling first. Anyways, with the supposed split, where does this leave Fandango? Does he keep the silly name and become more serious? Or does he cut a promo, dropping the name, reclaiming Johnny Curtis and restart? Or a different option? I would like to see him drop the name, and keep Summer Rae together with him as a heel duo without the dancing gimmick.

That song is way too damn catchy for a complete repackaging. Maybe now he can focus as a solo cocky character who starts dancing and whatnot after knocking an opponent down or something.

All I know is when Adam Rose comes to town, this should make for an interesting feud.

You cant repackage him without doing some sort of change to the character over the course of a few weeks. Its awfully hard to go from dancing buffoon to serious wrestler.

I don't think repackaging him really works. Perhaps I'm wrong and I'm sure someone can correct me but didn't Johnny Curtis end up in one match where he was destroyed by Mark Henry and then disappear for a long time before coming back as Fandango?

If anything, they should let him be more aggressive and just go since I thought his feud with Jericho was pretty solid. Then again, how much of that was Jericho could be debated.

Well, he was on NXT under the name Johnny Curtis, and actually won season 4. He stayed on NXT afterwards until they came up with the Fandango character.

I could be wrong, I think the split has more to do with Summer Rae than Fandango. Summer Rae is starting to do a lot of stuff on her own, she's on Total Divas, she's wrestling more. I think they just wanted her to focus on her solo career, and I wouldn't be surprised if Fandango brought in a new dancer. Rather than repackage him, they could always just try a face turn...we know the crowds like his music.

I don't think anything will be happening to the Fandango character. It was he who dumped Summer, so they can use that to turn Summer face. She is the only one on Total Divas who currently portrays a heel, so they likely want to turn her face to better help the show.

I wish his original dance partner would return. She was a great ballroom dancer and put Summer Rae to shame.

I loved the first Fandangirl. For one thing, she was really doing the Fandango dance, as opposed to whatever the hell Summer Rae is doing. For that matter, when they appeared onstage, we got to watch the entire dance.....instead of what the routine has become; interrupting their dance to show us multiple shots of the audience watching them do it. Ugh.

WWE could do worse than to bring her back while and let her stand at ringside watching the match without getting involved. As for Johnny Curtis, I see no reason to change what he's doing. He still has his ring routine down pat; it's a classic overconfident, wiseguy heel. No one else moves, looks or acts like him......and he seems forever amazed when he gets his butt kicked.

I see no reason for a repackage. The gimmick has plenty of life left. They can tweak the routine to allow for more wrestling and less interaction between him and Fandangirl......but let her dance.

I don't think he needs any re-packaging. He's fine right where he is at, doing what he has been doing since he debuted. Not everyone can be winning matches or wrestling at the top of the card. The business needs enhancement talent, and he's a good one. And he is good at his gimmick, so why change it?

Make him a good guy. He could be a comedy character like Santino and Hornswoggle. They always make time for comedy matches

The obvious route is for Fandango to feud with Adam Rose when he debuts. But. Also would like to see a more serious fandango as well. Maybe against big e. Or even cause an upset and take dean ambroses title off him. But that's more just to see dean actually defend it than anything else.

Side note: everyone complains that divas aren't good at wrestling and are just dancers or models etc etc. then when it turns out ones a decent wrestler, and can't really dance to a professional level, you're all complaining about her dancing. Go figure right ...

It's different when her gimmick actually focuses on dancing. I don't think he needs to be repackaged I think he's fine. I'd actually like to see him move up the card a little bit and get a shot at Big E since Dean Ambrose doesn't defend the title. I think he would have won the IC title to begin with if he didn't get that concussion and Curtis Axel won it instead. Fandango is a good talent IMO. Probably not above mid card but he has a place in my honest opinion.

He doesn't need repackaging. As annoying as Fandango is, going back to the pun gimmick he had as Curtis wouldn't do him much good. The small amount of laughs he would get as a face who tells bad jokes (I find it hilarious but many don't) would not benefit him as much as the heel heat the Fandango character gets. I am disappointed if it's true that he will no longer have Summer alongside him any more. She was the best part of his matches and entrance! Layla might be able to help him, but the loss of Summer has made me less interested in Fandango. The gimmick itself is fine, there's no reason to change it. Not yet anyway. It's a fine midcard gimmick. If he ever gets moved up the card he would have to try something different though.

On another note, so WWE.... About that Tag Team Championship match with R-Truth that he was supposed to get.... Some of us are still waiting to see that.

Let's be honest WWE need more gimmicks. Being several different versions of a serious face/heel with a different name and moves is dull. Remember when Brodus Clay was over as the Funkasauraus. What happened to him?? Oh yeah they decided to make him a serious heel and now no one gives a shit.

I don't know if Fandango could be a world champion, but he certainly could be a strong midcard champ. His theme and him talking about his name is what got him over (the dancing helped). But to take that and make him a serious style face or heel would take all that and crap on it. He'd end up like Miz, Kofi, Ziggler etc.

I say keep the gimmick and tweak it. He could integrate the dancing into a move set like kicking while doing some sort of dance move, do a quick dance before hitting a move etc. Dance over the body of his opponent when he wins. There's plenty that can be done with him, just don't make him serious heel/face #3436783423

I've never been a fan of seeing mid-card gimmicks on main event caliber athletes... Kofi, fandango, john Morrison etc... Put a mask on him have him attack john cena and the reveal would be a shock. Repackage him as more serious and aggressive but u can even keep the dancing gig.
