I always hear people complain about HHH burying guys and I think that get blown way out of proportion. He get crucified for thinking they were not ready yet, but remember the same thing happened to him. Summerslam 99, Austin wouldn't let HHH win the title from him. Watch the go home Raw for that PPV, the #1 contender status changed from HHH to Chyna to Mankind to Mick and Hunter, Mick won the belt and lost it to HHH the next night.
You hear about Booker, RVD, Eddie, Jericho, Goldberg, Orton, Edge, Christian, Hardy, Punk and so on but all those guy eventually got to the top and won world titles and headlined many Wrestlemania's and other PPV's. Y2J, Eddie, Orton, Edge, Hardy and Punk became the "top guys". RVD's bust for weed and pain pills without a Rx killed his run and I think a big reason (WWE)ECW failed was during its first month their top guy got suspended and it never got the credibility that it should have had. But that's a rant for another post on another day. All the guys I named became legit big money guys, except maybe for Goldberg but he was a big time player before he got there, and only stayed a year. Guys like Hogan and Jeff Jarrett and others seem to get this label as well.
So this leads me to my point, I tried to think who I thought was the best overall guy (Work, talking, look the whole package) that was "buried" and should have been a top guy for years, but never recovered? Lets hold it into the boundaries of WWE, WCW, ECW, and TNA, no one remembers that Verne Gange or the Von Erichs had issues putting/getting guys over. lol
My example is Samoa Joe, this guy was as over as anyone could be in TNA in 2006. Joe even went over Jarrett in a PPV main event, but it was a non title match. Then he finally got the title in 08 (2 years after he should have) before dropping the strap to Sting 5 months later. To be honest, I didn't think it was that long and it was very uneventful. In the last 5 years he really hasn't ever come close to another world title run, he had a few shots but I never thought he was a threat to win it. Hell Mr. Anderson has held it twice during this time. Joe is still relatively young so he could turn it around but I think he will never really be "the guy" in TNA or WWE if he jumped.
So who was buried and never made it to the top in your eyes?
Other than HHH who do you think is the worst are holding guys down and why?
