Rebooking Nexus

Oracular Spectacular

Wrestling Realist
Recently I have been watching and listening to a lot of the High Spots Guest Booker Series of shoot interviews....If you havnt had a chance to see it check it out

Basically I have watched these to get a more realistic look into the world of booking and the art of telling a story through wrestling.

Firstly I love the Nexus angle(It has actually reinstated my faith in the integrity and progressive thinking of the wrestling world in general) but I would like to try my hand at improving things. I am going to first try to just book a few months, and If it does good I will continue on maybe into the present day as well as the future of the company.

Now I have set up a few prerequisites to this.
1. I will not be hiring any wrestlers outside of the realm of possibility

So no TNA guys and I will only be using wrestlers who are employed and one instance someone who has been hired recently(Tyler Black) and someone who was a "free agent" at the time(Homicide) these are the only two I will be using outside of the realm of the current roster

2. I am not booking every single show, match, or angle

The only things I will be addressing are things having to do with the Nexus angle.

3. I am trying to keep it PG but will go maybe into the PG-13 area

No blood or guts. I mused the idea of a more "Hardcore" Nexus but I am going to do this. I also want to take the challenge of booking intelligent stories in a PG era.

Ok here we go.

June 7, 2010

Wade Barrett starts off the show, He begins to talk about how much of an honor it is to be a full fledged member of the WWE. He talks about his dreams, future, hopes, ect. He is coming off as a face here and really gets the crowd on his side. Bret Hart comes down and welcomes Wade, putting him over and calling him the future of the company. He then announces that Barrett will be the special guest ref tonight when John Cena takes on Sheamus

*Note*
We are going to go ahead and say the main event has already been set up as Cena vs Orton vs Edge vs Sheamus.

Later on in the night The Miz is in the ring bragging about himself and cutting a solid heel promo. Hart comes out and announces that he has a special match for the Miz. Bret Hart announces Daniel Bryan as his opponent and makes the stipulation that if Bryan wins he gets a contract and a shot for the U.S title at Fatal-Four Way. Bryan goes over with a roll up out of nowhere.

The main event gets underway with Barrett as the ref, he shakes Cena's hand and Sheamus refuses a hand shake. The match goes off without a hitch until Cena hits Sheamus with the Attitude Adjustment, he goes for the pin and Barrett counts to two and the lights go out *Another Note, I am a sucker for the lights going out* They turn back on and the rest of the NXT cast(Including Daniel Bryan) are surrounding Cena. Beat down ensues, finishers are hit and there is a severe lack of ties involved, Sheamus attempts to even the odds and the NXT group beats him down as well. Barrett grabs a mic and simply says "You can't hold us all down" and Nexus pose over the prone Cena.

***Now this all may not seem progressive yet but it will be getting to it, I feel that Barrett teasing being a face would help the angle out a lot. This makes Cena look vulnerable as well as he can't hold back the numbers and the addition of Barrett saying "you can't hold us all down" adds the old "Kayfabe" storylines from the past that the old NWO would use.*****

*** Anyone wondering NXT Season Two will go off much like it did, I will use these characters later, but every episode will be basically like it was up until the season finale. Also disregard the Nexus angles on season two or just use you imagination that they went off normally with a few tweaks******

I will attempt to post a few weeks at a time but this one is just a teaser for now.

June 16th

--------Opening Segment---------
Bret Hart comes out to address what happened last week. He mentions that he has seen this before and that he also ran with a group in WCW that was trying to "change" things. He makes a comment about the NXT group being nothing but a bunch of NWO-Wannabees and that the NWO had something NXT doesn't and that is star power.

This brings out Daniel Bryan sans NXT. He calls mentions that He and Hart have a lot in common, that they were known as the best wrestler in the world in their prime and that they both wrestle a very technical style. Byran then brings up that unlike Hart, He worked his way to the top, while Hart just rode on his families name. He compare Bret Hart to George W. Bush in that he just ran on his last name. He brings up that he was trained by Shawn Michaels and makes up something that he was refused entree into the Dungeon because he wasn't Canadian. He also mentions that Unlike Hart he wont let his career get ended by a kick from a talentless hack. Bryan continues to tear into Hart until Hart rebuttals by calling Bryan a big fish in a small pond, saying something along the lines of not being able to cut it in the big leagues.

Bryan comes out of left field saying that Hart is a hack and that the only reason Bret Hart became champ is because Hulk Hogan was too busy making crappy movies.

The rest of Nexus suddenly come down the aisle and Bret yells for security and mentions that most of the NXT guys don't even have contracts. This brings out of all people WILLIAM REGAL.

Regal makes his way out and tells Bret that they actually do have contracts. Regal pulls out all the members of the NXT crews contracts with all signed by the WWE board of directors. He proceeds to mention that he lobbied for them before last weeks Raw. Regal brings up that he is well respected by the brass and that he has held positions of power and had many people that owed him favors, thus he got all of the NXT members contracts and that they were all legal.

Regal also annouces that he made the formal requests and got mic time for right now and calmly askes bret Hart to leave the ring. Hart reluctently leaves but not before making some threats at Regal. Regal gets in the ring and annouces that the paradign of the WWE is changing and annouces that this is the Nexus of the status quo of the WWE and that change is coming. He annouces to all the wrestlers in the back that if they are tired of being held down then its time to stand up, because with numbers come power and that they have the power to change the way things are seen. He annouces that if you oppose change then you will be run over by it.

****This promo I believe would be one of those promos that splits the crowd, sure they will be seen as heels but they will also be cheered by the smarky fans out there. by making the N logo prominant as well merchandise sales will go through the roof.

I like the idea that they are almost making the fans choose a side, which is what the NWO did right and the Alliance did wrong. For example. Stone Cold was a rebel who attacked authority, the authority was seen as unhip and as a heel. The NWO attacked the face authority, the groups people loved but still were rebels enough to get them over as a tweener leaning toward a heel. Somtimes being such a heel can give you almost a cult following. Go watch Nitro around 97-98 and you will see a lot of NWO signs and shirts. This is one of the few times a Heel getting faces reactions on a occasion is a good thing. Of course a lot of this would have to do with how the commentary treats them. The commentary treated the NWO as heels which gave them the miniker of being heels, thus the fans who cheered them were almost cheering them because of the idea that they were rebels. With Nexus here being the anti-thesis of the WWE, and publicly attacking the "glass celing" it will give the sect of fans that want change a reason to watch.****

----Later On------

undercard match with Santino vs Ted Dibiase Jr.
The match begins and Santino immediety kicks Dibiase in the face and slaps on an arm bar. Dibiase taps but Santino continues to keep the hold locked on nexus come into the ring and stomp on Dibiase. Santino takes the mic and says that the character you see on TV is what the WWE wants him to do, all you see if a crappy gimmick. Santino says that he is a proud Italian and should be taken seriously. He aligns himself with nexus and claims that he will prove that he isn't another jobber. He puts on a Nexus shirt and leaves with the group.

----Cena Segment-----
John Cena comes out and says that Nexus has a good point, he does that whole Cena face promo where he sympathizes and then switches it around and calls them jobbers. He makes the point that he trained hard to get to where he is and calls himself the Prototype of a WWE superstar. He vows to defend those values, this brings out Sheamus. Sheamus reminds Cena that they have a match at Fatal Four-Way but he agrees with Cena, he brings up that he also made his way through the system and mentions that he wouldnt be where he is if it wasnt for that. Orton comes out and brings up that he was coupled around the greatest wrestlers int he world and they beat those values into him, this brings out Edge who mentions that he worked his way up while the WWE was being headlined by the likes of Stone Cold and The Rock and that he is now a multi-time champion and earned every second of it, and that Nexus are nothing but spoiled brats who think they should immediately be susperstars just because some of them put on great matches in the Indies.

This brings out Regal and Nexus, Regal says he has been around the business for a long time and has seen all the icons from Flair to the current crop and that they all need to realize that they aren't invincible and that there time will come. He breaks down every superstar, Calling Sheamus the man that had to end the careers of the undertalent to get ahead, he tells Edge that he slept with everything he could to get to the top, he tells Orton that he just rode the coattails of Flair and HHH to get ahead and then he calls Cena the companies prize pig, he proceeds to tells Cena and co. that there time is up and its time to bring in the new age of superstars. he challenges them to a 4 on 4 match tonight. The WWE Superstars agree to settle there difference for tonight and teach these guys a lesson.

-----Main Event-----
Cena and Co. vs Nexus(Barrett, Bryan, Gabriel and Sheffield) The match becomes an all out brawl before the bell rings, never getting started, The rest of Nexus get involved and this brings out a few superstars from WWE to rally (Evan Bourne, Mark Henry, R-Truth, John Morrison, Great Khali ect.) People are brawling everywhere and Cena finds himself alone with Regal, they fight and Cena gets him up for the A.A. Chris Jericho slides in the ring and whacks Cena with a chair in the back and locks on the Old-School Lion Tamer. Orton slides in the ring just to get nailed with a Knee Trembler by Regal. Nexus gets the advantage and the show ends with a shot of Nexus posing with Chris Jericho to end the show.

*****Stay tuned for Jericho's explanation, Nexus invades Smackdown and Fatal Four-Way*********
