Antonio Inoki (JAP) vs El Canek (MEX)

This is a second round Submission Match in the 2010 Wrestlezolympics. This match will be contested under general Submission Match Rules. The match will continue without pinfalls until a wrestler either taps out or is rendered unconscious by an opponents submission maneuver. WZO Submission Matches are contested under no count-out, no DQ rules, but the match can only end via submission inside the ring.

The match will open for discussion on Wednesday, February 3rd, and voting will begin on Thursday, February 4th. This is a non-spam thread, so if you decide to post, you must provide reasons why you are backing a particular wrestler. You may vote without posting.

It's rare that I will ever vote against Canek in anything. I believe the man to be a true ring legend and easilly one of the 25 greatest of all time.

But Inoki is one of the international greats whom I do not believe Canek has a win over.

Both men have pretty impressive MMA records, so that's a wash, though even there I may give the edge to Inoki due to his training by Karl Gotch. Both men are internationally renowned stars and have wins over other international legends. Inoki has defeated Ric Flair, Canek has defeated Hulk Hogan.

In a match such as this one, I just feel that Inoki is better suited to win. He has a tremendous submission repitoire, experience to match that of Canek, and in an Olymipc setting, his Japanese pride will be hard to discount. I honestly see Inoki with a Gold Medal when all is said and done. Canek will have a great shot at the bronze, though.

Inoki has a submission repetoire, and El Canek doesn't, and it is as simple as that really. There is more of an argument in a traditional match, but I just think that as long as it might take, Inoki would eventually get the win here. Canek would brave it out, but I don't think that he has anything in his arsenal that could eek out a win here.

I'm with the two big shots here as Inoki simply is a better submission wrestler and that's all there is to it. He's better than Canek in that area, period. At the end of the day, pride and guts are going to lose out to ability. Just look at Mania 13.

Don't know much about either of these guys, but from what I've learned, Canek is more of a power guy while Inoki is more technical. As mentioned above, both are legends and both have had huge wins in their careers, but the stipulation seems to lend itself to the Japanese man here.
