Power To The People Show (Sike!)

6/20/2011

For promos, I will give so many cartons of cigarettes out of a possible 10 (Very popular around here. Easy way to make new friends.)
For matches, I will give so many prison shanks out of a possible 10(Handy to have on ya'. You can never be too careful especially with all the lil' Jimmy's eye'in yo ass in the shower)

CM Punk Opening Segment
I enjoyed this promo and as soon as I heard Punk demanding a title shot, I knew that his "most honest thing..." would end up having to do with him leaving WWE and I knew he would win the match for the #1 Contender spot. As for the segment, Punk was very relaxed giving it,yet funny and determined. He's a natural on the mic and it's easy for him to connect with the crowd.

Diva's Championship Match
Brie Bella vs Kelly Kelly

Brie Bella had to put her belt on the line on against either Eve, Beth Phoenix, or Kelly Kelly and "the people" chose Kelly Kelly.
I thought for a divas match, this was pretty good. Looked like a nice clean match and the divas executed their moves well. I think the crowd was completely dead during this match because I could hear everything that was being said in the ring, as if they had mics on. I think Brie and Kelly are hot as fuck, so I didn't mind watching the match in the first place. I also liked the finish where Kelly Kelly won clean and became the new Diva's Champion.

Evan Bourne vs Mason Ryan
Evan Bourne was to have a match with either Mason Ryan, Jack Swagger or Sin Cara. The fans voted for Bourne to face Mason Ryan *cough* Bullshit! *cough* I know a lot of people on the forum probably came at the thought of Sin Cara vs Bourne, but the match up didn't happen. Instead we got Bourne vs Ryan and it was basically a squash match. Bourne got in some stiff shots, but Ryan manhandled him for the most part and eventually his burly ass got the clean victory when he hit his finisher. I do like that they job Bourne out to further push Ryan.

Arm Wrestling Match
Kane vs Mark Henry

Kane and Henry were suppose to have an arm wrestling match, but Henry decided to sucker punch Kane and beat him down instead so the match ended in a no contest. It concluded with Henry hitting the World's Strongest Slam through the announce table. Afterward, Henry was talking about letting Kane suffer like he's suffered and not getting any respect and how he's the best in the world. Henry comes across well as a crazy mammoth heel and I couldn't help but think of him and Truth teaming up in a NoD type stable (zero chance of happening, wouldn't even work today and in this WWE.) Anyway, I liked the "atmosphere" of the beat down so...

R Truth, Christian, Miz, Teddy Long Segment
R Truth comes out sputtering the usual lil' jimmy nonsense which I don't mind because he's decent and convincing on the mic. Christian then comes out to cheers (I think the kids thought he was gonna shut Truth up and challenge him.) They both talk about how they were screwed and Christian just needs one more match to beat Randy and Truth is pretty funny during the segment due to his obsession with lil' Jimmy's, big Jimmy's, and even momma Jimmy's. Then Miz comes out to a huge cheer and sorta mocks the two and makes the segment confrontational. At one point it gets kind of cheesy and three stooges-y but luckily "You know it's the MAC MILITANT" hits the speakers and Teddy Long comes out Playa. I don't even remember what Long said but the three guys in the ring would face Riley, Orton, and Cena (the audience climaxed at this point) in a 6 man tag and the match type would be decided by "the people." The Truth and The Miz were the best parts of this segment, though I did like when Chrisitian called Truth "dawg" and Booker said "did he just call him dawg?"

United States Championship Match
Kofi Kingston vs Dolph Ziggler (2/3 Falls Match)

I'm not the biggest fan of either of these guys in the ring. Ziggler to me almost seems to collegiate and I think I'd like to see a larger arsenal out of him. For some reason, I don't find him aesthetically pleasing to watch. If I'm not wrong, these two faced each other a ton of times on Smackdown for the IC title, right? Anyway, I suppose what Ziggler lacks in moves he makes up for in ring psychology. The match was split at one a piece when Ziggler hit Kofi with the title giving Kofi the win, but not the title. Afterward, you knew Kofi would get the last laugh as Ziggler dragged him into the ring, only to get hit with Trouble In Paradise. I was not interested in this match.
6 1/2 Prison Shanks

There's a commercial for next week's Raw which will be a Raw Roulette and Shawn Michaels will be appearing (cheap plug for his hunting show no doubt.)

#1 Contender for the WWE Title
Alberto Del Rio vs Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk (Falls Count Anywhere)
Del Rio comes out with some sort of fancy white car. I've never been a fan of these car entrances. Del Rio grabs the mic from Justin Roberts, upset Ricardo Rodriguez didn't introduce him. He says he's been teaching people a lesson in destiny. He says Big Show getting run over wasn't an accident, but destiny. His win over big show was destiny, and when he beats Punk and Rey tonight it won't be an accident, it'll be destiny. A lot of nice spots in this match which is typical for those competiting. A power bomb off the apron, couple of hurricaranas, Del Rio power bombed Punk off the ropes while Punk suplexed Rey. It was an amazing match and I think the luchadores (as well as X Division/ROH style wrestlers) really excel in matches that involve more then two people (I enjoyed the one weeks back between Del Rio, Rey, and MIZ as well.) Rey was phenomenal as usual, but CM Punk came out the victor as he pulled Rey off Del Rio and flung him into the ring post, then covered Del Rio for the 3.

CM Punk Victory Segment
CM Punk wins the #1 Contender spot. After the match, as Punk sat in the ring, he grabbed a mic and announced that "most honest thing..." he's been talking about and says honest usually gets him in trouble. He Says his contract expires July 17th, the same night as Money In The Bank, The same night he'll face John Cena for the WWE title, and the same night he'll defeat John Cena and leave the WWE as WWE Champion.

Cody Rhodes vs Daniel Bryan (No Countout Match)
Very Short match, but that's fine, they can settle things on Smackdown. Seemed to be a number of stiff kicks/high spots and ended when Bryan reversed a cradle and got the victory. After the match Bryan put Rhodes in the LeBell Lock until Dibiase came out and attacked Bryan. Rhodes hit the Cross Rhodes and then bag and tagged Bryan.

Vickie Guerrerro vs Michael Cole (Dance Competition)
The two did some shit, I don't even know. I think Cole attempted a spinaroonie and Vickie kissed Matt Striker(poor guy has been having a rough time.). Michael Cole wins via loudest boos.
I don't know whether to give this match shanks or cigarettes. Oh wait! I give it neither!

Main Event
John Cena, Randy Orton, Alex Riley vs R Truth, Christian, The Miz (Elimination Match)

Match was pretty predictable. Third biggest face gets pinned first (glad it wasn't clean.) So now Cena and Orton have to overcome the odds of 3 on 2.
The second person pinned is The Miz (Riley's gone, so what's the use for him to stick around?) Then things started getting hectic, typical WWE style match, where Orton takes out Truth only to get speared and pinned by Christian (Don't ya love how the users of the spear seem to be getting smaller, skinnier and suckier?) Then Cena comes in to AA Christian, Christian gets out only to get RKO'd by the eliminated Orton (It's in his contract that he must hit atleast two RKO's every match) and then submitted by Cena.
Afterward, best friends Cena and Orton held up their tag titles and embraced one another a few times. Glad to see WWE has evolved and there is no longer any animosity or competition between the two world champions and they are able to coexist and make love.

Overall: 7 1/2 Glasses of Prison Hooch
The show was put together well, there was some good wrestling, some good promos, but I can't give it a higher score because I'm not all that interested in the some of the characters/outcomes. I think the problem is that every week Raw is either 7-8 out of 10 or lower. Right now the show is complacent, but they are doing what's best for them and it appears to be working. They remain the status quo. I just increased the overall rating by half a point, because I didn't see a Cena/Orton promo.

The Good
Both Punk promos.
Punk vs Rey vs Del Rio match.
R Truth/ The Miz promos.
Dibiase coming to Cody's aid.

The Bad
Dance Competition
Cena/Orton sharing the spotlight

It's funny how they had time to have that useless dance competition between Michael Cole/Vickie, but yet no time to book a match for Ryder, Mcintyre or a number of the other talent.

Also I'm kind of split on Punk leaving. As someone who watches WWE and wants it to get better, I want Punk around. But then there's that other side of me that wants him to leave if it means he'll sign with TNA (which he's probably not even thinking about at this time, but knows he'll always have them to fall back on.)

When it comes to WWE guys, I'm always thinking "what if they were in TNA." Especially for guys like Punk and Del Rio. People are starting to get tired of Del Rio's same ol' shtick and I think it's because of the WWE format and restrictions they put on him as well as the writers.

Anyway, if Punk does end up taking time off and doesn't sign with TNA, hopefully he'll be back in WWE fairly quickly.
