Raw is a HABIT

LEGEND KILLER

Occasional Pre-Show
Now ive been watching WWE since the early Hogan era. I am talking Wrestlemania 2 onward. So ive been through the ups and downs, the monday night wars etc. Ive always been loyal to WWE, sure i watched a pinch of WCW but im the fan who never wanted to admit it!

So i was watching RAW last monday with Cedric the Entertainer. I have to admit it was just terrible. It got to the main event and i was watching with a buddy and i looked at him and looked at the clock and said why are we watching this? I dont even care i really dont to see the main event. The show was predictable, stale etc. Everything we have all complained about over the past few years. It was plain out boring. BUT we sat there and watched the rest of the show.

The point i am getting to is this....i feel as if i am in a routine to watch Raw. I dont watch it out of desire like i used too. The passion is gone. I used to make sure i was home 10 minutes before raw and everything else was done just so i wouldnt miss the beggining segment. There is not much on monday nights. People usually dont go out monday nights.

I dont want you all to bitch about the things you dislike about Raw bc i am sure we could list a ton just your thoughts on why do we watch raw....is it a routine???

I couldn't agree more brotha. This week's raw sucked balls.

I don't like any of this guest host crap. It is just one more way the WWE can fill the time with something besides WRESTLING--which is the reason I watch the damn show.

I like TNA better these days, but yes, Monday night is just RAW night. It's a matter of habit/routine.

Raw was bad this week, and prb wont be any better next week, but yes we all will still prbly end up watching it. my friends and i get together every monday to watch, and we know its awful, but we do it anyways. i feel more compelled to watch Raw just to hang. something neeeds to be done.

Yeah it is a routine. People can complain and bitch about how bad it has been getting, and so they should, but they still tune in to watch. they want to see new stars get pushed, maybe they watch to see DX and Cena, or maybe hey just are the occasional viewer with nothing else to do on a Monday night. But yeah it is a routine, even when you miss it, it is the first thing you do when you wake up, check the results of RAW! It is a natural compulsive thing that is un-explainable. Like you have said, Monday night is probably the worst of all. It is a working night, so nobody goes out to party or booze, where it is also a school night, so for the exact same reason they will probably just watch RAW! Monday is not the greatest TV night either, except from the occasional soaps and football games there is nothing on. All of these reasons i have mentioned and the fact we are all wrestling fans is why RAW! is a routine.

It is routine. Simple as that. I hate the guest host concept (except for when Trish was host). I dislike seeing pretty much the same thing each and every week. But, as much as I dislike the WWE Raw product right now, there isn't anything that really can be done, and I sit down each and every Monday and watch it. It is and has been a routine for the last 3 or 4 years now.

Prior and especially during the Monday Night wars it was a completely different feeling. I was excited about the product. I was more of a WCW fan, so I was excited to tune into Nitro every Monday to see what was going to happen, then flip over to Raw during commercials to see what kind of crazy shit they were pulling off.

This is why I like TNA much more these days. Yes TNA is doing A LOT of things wrong, but I get more excited to tune into iMPACT! every Thursday then I get excited to tune into Raw. Tuning into Smackdown is much more enjoyable then Raw is as well.

I have taken to watch either baseball (maybe now football) and taping Raw. This way I can go through all the bits and matches I have no interest in. So now it takes me 45 minutes to go through the two hour show. When I saw the way the contract signing was going, I knew what the main event was. When I heard about the stipulation, I knew what next Monday's main event.

My biggest argument about the WWE, besides boring and running the same mindless matches week after week (Hornswoggle Rey Gerruero program), is the fact before Raw was the monster it became and 14 PPVs a year, they never had the people in the PPV wrestle each other in the lead up programs. If they are going to show us Orton vs. Cena every week, then what is the use to watch the PPV?

This week it will be MNF, and leave the DVR off.

When it comes to RAW, its pretty bad when I'll make plans and not care if I miss the show anymore. What happened to the days of when we'd never miss an episode because you didn't know what was going to happen? Now, it just sucks. The only good thing for me, is Shawn Michaels. It is kind of a habit for me, as long as I'm not busy. What's really bad, is RAW is live, Smackdown is taped. I actually know what's going to happen, and I still would rather watch Smackdown.

I was JUST talking to my friends about this the other day. Raw has just become a routine show to put on week after week. It used to be awesome to actually tune into Raw to see what was going to happen from last week with Austin, Rock, Mankind, McMahon or whoever.

They say that Raw is more entertainment and Smackdown is more wrestling, but I find the storylines on Smackdown more indulging to watch week after week to see how they progress. With Raw, it's the same stuff over and over and over again and some of the time it doesn't even seem like the storylines really go anywhere.

As far as the main events go, I've gotten into the habit of just leaving the show on as background noise while I get on the computer, it's a shame.

I agree with you. Watching Sports Entertainment for me is a habit. I think it’s because I just don’t want to miss the next big thing. There are boring parts to the shows, and I’ll even say to an extent, there are boring shows period, but that won’t stop me from tuning in every week to Raw, Smackdown, ECW and Impact. If I had access WGN America to Superstars on TV, I would watch that too.

I have been Watching Wrestling for almost 20 years. I too was a loyal Raw watcher and rarely flipped to WCW. I have gotten as bad now as I just make sure the DVR is set to tape and watch it sometime during the week.

The excitment is gone, I will always watch and I hope something can be done to draw the excitment back. I am one that loves the wrestling and loves the alethicism these people have, and I too love the story lines or should I say I use to love the story lines, what we have now are not story lines I am not sure what they are.

The Shawn Michales and Y2J matches, those had story behind them.

The now repeitvie status of Big show versus MVP one raw, Y2J versus whome ever the next raw and the team facing at the PPV and than press repeat is not a story build up.

I remeber going to house shows in Detroit that would sell out, the last recent raw a few weeks ago was maybe 75% full.

WHERE IS THE HEART AND FEELING that use to be there. Personally, I feel it is becuase there is no competition so there is no need, becuase WWE knows the loyalness is still there why bother throwing it all out there when there is no need for it with the lack of competition

Yeah man this is the only damn reason I watch it myself. Ive been a Fan for about 22/23 years now, my 1st Wrestling memory was Hogan getting carried out in a stretcher by King Kong Bundy. And...Basically yeah it's all out of habit. Even when im at my angriest as a fan I still TRY and keep the hope it's gonna turn around the next Monday I go to watch it. I always enjoy Jericho/Swagger and a few others on Raw as well as the emergence of MVP which is a good thing but im pissed at a few things... Obviously the guest host crap "except for past WWE Legends" and the downplaying of certain Wrestlers I enjoy like Jack Swagger and my favorite Diva Beth Phoenix. I love Orton as well but after the 5oth match with Cena and 3H it just gets played out and becomes a overkill man. Im all for a fresh program with Orton/MVP. The habit wont kick no matter how hard I try lol. It seems like what's keeping me a WWE Fan is Habit/Smackdown and their DVD releases.

I agree that watching raw every week is nothing more to me now than a routine. I for one used to watch WCW more than i would watch the WWF but thats only because i am from the south and WCW was advertised more in this particular region.

You all remember the monday night wars and how WCW programing would become more and more predictable every week, and the WWF were on the cutting edge and made you excited to watch. You just didnt know what was going to happen next. Well, the WWE today is the same as WCW was then.

Bottom line is that the WWE today is geared toward kids. Naturally as adults we loose interest in childish things. I used to love to watch the Power Rangers too but now, for some reason, i don't find them that interesting.

I'm in agreement that watching Raw is well a habit. I've been a fan since the Attitude Era & I used to always make it a priority to watch Raw & Smackdown every single week despite it either being a school night or whether I wasn't home, but I always made sure I had a way to watch it every single week. Well now days I tune in just out of habit, but eventually finding myself to change the channel to ESPN once i've seen just how bad & perdictable Raw is for that week. Well all I know is that this Monday night will be the first ever night that I will not tune into Raw at all cause i'm gonna watch Monday Night Football to see how my NFL team does.

Blah, blah, blah... here we go again... finding yet ANOTHER thread explaining why you all shouldn't watch raw.

Guys, get over yourselves and stop yessing the original poster. You watch because you're wrestling fans. When you become a fan of something, turning it on becomes a routine because you want to continue to enjoy it. If you don't turn it off, it's not because you're "addicted" or because it's a "habit". No one drugged you and it's not like picking your nose or biting your fingernails... you're completely capable of making conscious decisions as to whether you want to watch the program or not. If you don't, I would think that would be quite embarrassing.

This is just another thread that should be stuck in the Negative Complaining Thread.

You make about as much sense as Al Sharpton hosting Raw. Yes people can watch based on habit. Your sitting at home on a Monday Night and whatever else that's on your not into, but your a Wrestling Fan and just go "fu*k it raw is on and im just bored" that pretty much means addiction, just as those who smoke do it out of habit and bordem more so then actually wanting to do it.

First off, your Al Sharpton joke was about as funny as Hornswoggle joining the NBA. But since both of our metaphorical jokes are horrific, let's just leave it at that.

Now, considering that there are no physical substances in television sets that trigger someone to be "addicted" to Raw, I guess that just proves how weak-willed many of you appear to be. Only a weak willed person can be so mezmerized by a television show that they would blame "habit" or "addiction" for the reason why they watch it.

Deep down, all of you are hoping to turn it on and have it 'wow' you the way it did 10 years ago. Face it people, wrestling of 10 years ago is dead and the WWE is no longer catering to our demographic. They wish to entertain children... nothing more. Unless we can enjoy the product on the level that children do currently, we'll just be fooling ourselves everytime we turn it on.

Judging by your response to my comment, it seems as if you mighjt be slightly offended by my point of view. But if you really think about what I said, it was more of a compliment and a wake up call. I commend all of you for being "wrestling fans" and not "addicted" but I think you all need to make a conscious decision... should you continue watching the product or stop? No more bullshit excuses... it's as simple as that.

Its true we know most likely the show is not gonna be that good every week, but we just got to know what's gonna happen because we grew up as wrestling fans and we just can't break away. Non wrestling fans just can't understand.we're waiting it out til the overall product is great again and every moment captivates us. I will say the biggest issue is the PG rating and I want my blood back!!!

Sidenote: at hell in the cell somebody better bleed and every match better be amazing.

This is EXACTLY how I feel....I'm not a damn bit interested in ANYTHING going on in Raw right now but I still tune in for some reason. Since football is back....I predominantly watch MNF and when its on commercial, I tune into Raw.

Did anyone say not to watch Raw? cuz I read all the comments and NO ONE was saying to boycott Raw...no one even mentioned the Attitude Era...You need to read the first post again because he did not say that Raw needs to be how it was 10 yrs ago. He simply said that he has lost alot of interest in Raw and doesnt have the anticipation and hype to watch the show as much as he used too, but yet he still watches the show for some reason, and that's the exact same feelings I have.

Actually, I read it just fine the first time. You've only got 29 posts so you haven't seen what I've seen on this site. This is another hate-forum. Someone found another witty way to create another thread that backhandedly degrades Raw. It doesn't need to be spelled out in crayon for me to understand it. After all, I have an IQ over 5 and half a brain.

I'm excited to watch Raw every week. I don't understand why people speak so poorly about it. I mean, if it sucks so bad and you have to rely on it being habituous in order for you to watch it each week, then maybe you should make a conscious effort to turn it off. I'm just sayin...

This is NOT a HATE RAW post....quite the contrary my friend. I used to love Raw and WWE and ill be honest if i can sit through a 2 hour wrestling show i each and every week and visit this website almost every day then i must still have a passion for the product. My original post stated and i will state again that although i am still a huge WWE fan i feel like i watch it now just bc there really isnt much else to do. Its become a habit. Even if something else is on ill flip back and forth between that and Raw and its not bc im concerned with missing something bc i can catch the results here online and also watch the repeat on tuesdays....

so again this isnt a HATE post its simply what i stated in the 1st post do you think as i do that watching RAW has become a habit...

You nailed it for me. RAW is trash right now (go ahead, flame me.) but I still find myself watching this show every Monday.

I watched wrestling when I was younger, then I stopped watching when I was around 14-15 (around the time of the WCW invasion angle I think) but then a younger cousin of mine started watching a couple of years ago, so I kind of had an excuse to become a fan again. However, once he fell out of favor with wrestling I basically stopped watching (though the horrible state of affairs on RAW was a precipitating factor). I still read the sheets to keep me abreast of what my favorite wrestlers are doing but I just stopped watching pretty much cold turkey. The fact is that I still appreciate a good wrestling match but all the other bullshit that comes a long with wrestling is just depraved nonsense. No wonder so many people are embarrassed to admit they are fans (as I once was). So it may have been a habit but whenever I got to the point where I was just completely fed up with the booking I stopped watching. I didn't threaten to stop watching (like so many in the IWC seem to do on a weekly basis), I actually did it. I bitched and complained but I actually did something about it, far from the idle threats that permeate the IWC. I'm sure there may come a point in time that for whatever reason I start watching again but judging by my past history it will not be for quite some time.

I believe that it is sort of routine to watch Raw every week. Hell, I've been doing it since '93. Am I still excited to watch Raw though? The answer is yes.

I love wrestling and although Raw isn't as good as it used to be, I still watch it with excitment. I am always excited to see who is going to say what and who is going to run out and save the day and stuff like that. I still completely mark out for wrestlers when they return or when they come running out for a save. I think that I also watch Raw with a lot of hope. You know. I hope that it is going to have some great segments and some great matches and some great moments.

I don't care how bland and stale Raw gets. I will be watching every week until either they go off the air or until I die and God be willing I'm not on my death bed on a Monday night, because Raw will be the last thing that I watch.

yeah, i agree as well.. i watch WWE out of habit and i also watch because i don't wanna miss the "next big thing" like someone had said.. i remember a few years back, i had quit watching Smackdown because i thought it became kind of boring.. i finally tuned back in to see what was going on, Kurt Angle had Team Angle together with Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin, i was like, who the hell are these two guys.. so after that i decided i wouldn't miss anymore shows, i don't wanna miss debuts like that again :)
