This is a very good article about currently former NBA player Rashad McCants. It talks about his time in the league and the reasons why he is currently out of a job.

Basically he is out of the league because of a "perceived" attitude problem. He has never had any major issues, has never been arrested for anything or suspended, but GM's don't like his facial expressions and the way he presents himself.

Maybe it's just me but that is a bullshit reason for someone to be out of a job considering some other players who currently have jobs in the league. McCants is an extremely talented player and at the worse could be an excellent 6th man for any team. The "perceived" attitude problem is bullshit as many former teammates including Al Jefferson and Kevin Garnett have talked very highly of McCants. Shit, the guy was a former team captain in Minnesota.

McCants does deserve some blame as he needs to realize that sometimes you need to do things just to please other people and you can't be stubborn about changing some minor things. After reading the article it seems like he now realizes that and should hopefully get an opportunity soon. In fact he already is playing on the Cavs summer league roster.

So what are your thoughts on the article, the reasons he is out of the league, and just McCants in general?

I'm not an insider so didn't get to read the story, but basing it off what you have said, then yes its an extremely stupid reason to not sign a guy. There have been plenty of players who play and are still playing in the NBA with a far worse "attitude" and real legal problems. To keep a guy out for basically personal issues that you yourself have is BS.

The last I've heard of McCants was that he had some health issue and wasn't staying with the Rockets. I'm sure he healthy now and could provide some solid minutes off the bench for a team, just to get his legs back under him. I always thought he had a lot of talent and was really going to shine as he continued in the league. Hearing that he's playing for the Cavs summer league is good and hopefully he will take that opportunity and run with it. Sometimes we have to make changes whether we really should or not, and I'm sure McCants understands that now. In order to get where you want to be you just have to conceed you were/are wrong, eat it, make changes, and move on. Its wrong what has happened to him but hopefully he get his 2nd chance.

Shit, didn't realize it was an insider article. Basically it was just saying that no GM wants to touch him because of things they've heard and don't actually bother to really give him a chance. He played well in Minnesota and had a solid ending to the 08-09 season with Sacramento, scoring 10 points per games in under 20 minutes per game.

Like I said the teammates that really get to know him and consider him a friend talk highly of him. Even a couple head coaches he had in Minnesota and Sac Town have given him good reviews. All he really needs now is another opportunity and he has said that he will make the most of it. Hopefully he gets that chance in Cleveland.

That's one of the problems I have withthese guys and really what equates to laziness. These guys don't bother to do research or find out for themselves what a guy is all about. Especially one that has had no real trouble. I never heard of fines, suspensions or legal trouble for him. To base decisions off hearsay is rediculous. Especially if he's got players and coaches saying nothing but good things about him. This is a sad story but one that has a chance to real good for him if he takes care of business.

Not all players and coaches like him. They were plenty of guys like Kevin Mchale and Randy Wittman who said he seemed to lack focus, but again they based that all on his expressions and the way he carried himself in practices. It's not that he didn't work hard, he just didn't communicate well and if you didn't really know him as a person he could come off as a guy who didn't give a shit.

Even the few GM's and coaches that did meet with him didn't like his body language but again I still see that as a puzzling reason to not at least give someone that talented a minimum contract. One meeting with a guy shouldn't form your opinion on him. That's the nature of the business though.

Meh, he was a decent enough player. Pretty solid scorer and pretty good shooter, but it isn't like he's the most talented player in the league. Far from it.

The thing is, when you're trying to get a job in the NBA, you have to be near perfect. Unless you're a supertalented guy, you have to do all the little things right. There are always a ton of other guys waiting right behind you who might be just a little less talented but don't come along with the potential baggage, whether it be real or perceieved.

Hopefully Rashad gets another chance as he's a good enough player and NBA teams always need shooters (Miami), but I'm not going to cry for him as he likely brought this all upon himself.

So, he's getting the Latrell Sprewell treatment, huh?

Yeah, I agree... this is bullshit.

As BS has said... McCants hasn't had any problems off the court, and he's never shown himself to be a dirty player. Now, if he has a work ethic problem or anything like that... then I understand why GMs would be hesitant to sign him. Regardless though, if you have a good coach, I don't see any reason not to take a chance. The guy is obviously talented. Dude was fantastic in North Carolina I remember. He also had a GREAT year in 2007/2008, so obviously he can hang at this level. So, I don't see what the problem is.

Thinking about it though... it looks like if this continues, McCants will just have to sign a one year, minimum contract... and I know who will be willing to offer him that. Do you know who I'm thinking of? I bet you do... Miami. You don't think Miami could use a talent like that? You don't think James, Wade, and Bosh could keep that motherfucker in line (just in case he does have an attitude problem)? Shit... you're out of your mind if you think not.

So, yeah... at the end of the day, this could really come back and bite all those teams who passed on him in the ass if ends up going to a place like Miami or the Lakers. Somebody better sign this dude.
