Rappers Are Ridiculous

Dark Horse

Why are Rappers ridiculous you say? Well....Just listen to them. Don't get me wrong, I love my rap as much as the next guy. I listen to it all the time, a varied assortment of artists and styles, and it's my favorite music genre. However, aren't these guys just getting a bit too ridiculous anymore? I mean really? From Lil Wayne's incomprehensible blabber, to the shallow pointless messages and lyrics from the likes of Drake, Waka Flocka Flame, Wiz Khalifa, Nicki Minaj, Officer Ricky Ross, etc... to the blase beats that sound like bad impressions of 90's dance music mixed with the powder soft mainstream rap of the early 2000's.

Overly self indulgent, overly tacky and cheesy, over inflated, any mix of words can not explain the stupidity and pure ignorance of the new crop of "rappers". Seriously, how many cars can you talk about? How much weed do you really smoke? How gangster are you really? How much time did you actually put in, in the streets? How many women can you objectify in one song? Or even better, how many failed relationships have you had for Gods sake? Can't you make anything work? Do you fall in love as easily as you put on your shoes or something? WTF???? Why do you have to cry about it on song after song? Don't you have anything better to say???

You know what really gets to me is "how hard" all these rappers try to say they are. Ok, Tupac took 6 shots, 50 Cent took 9, what's next? At this rate you'll have to have been run over by a tank, taken 75 rounds from an assault rifle, wrestled a bear, jumped off a tall building, murdered everyone in a 12 block radius, sold more dope than Tony Montana, and spent the rest of the time not doing that in a maximum security prison to be considered "Hard" or "Gangster". I'm sorry but I've heard too many guys all say that same shit basically, and I'm not buying it. If half of these guys did a fraction of the stuff they lay claim to on their albums they'd be in federal prison, not in a studio, looking like a bunch of pretty boy metrosexuals.

I'm tired of every one of these guys trying to convince me or tell me how great they are too. First off, not one of them could be telling the truth because if they were, every one of them would be the greatest of all time, the best rapper alive, better than anything before them or to come, and there would be no arguments to the contrary. Unfortunately there can only be 1 best and when you've got a few million rappers all trying to say they are the best I think that takes a bit away from the credibility of each mans proclamation. And, if you are so great, how come I have never heard of you? I'm not out of the loop, I've got my ear to the streets, the underground, I know what's poppin', so who the fuck are you again??? And what makes you think you are so great??? I'm just not buying it. How many Kanye's can there be? How many Jay-Z's can there be? How many rappers like this and like that and like this and uh? It's just ridiculous.

Dark Horse, another great post from you Sir.

I do agree with what you are saying. It isn't just today that rappers have been a bit ridiculous, even during the 90s every rapper was claiming to be a gangster, a drug dealer, murderer, pimp etc. Some of it is legitimate, like 50 and Game were drug dealers, some rappers did get shot but the claims about their greatness, how tough they are, how many women they fuck etc can get a bit old.

I know what you mean about rappers claiming to be the best, when they havent achieved anything. You do not find this in any other genre of music. You don't find a new rock band singing about their awesomeness in their first, just rappers. I am a fan of rap, infact I was listening to Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" this morning, but almost every rap song is talking about themselves, rather than any other subject.

The only rock star I can think of who does anything similar is Kid Rock, and his origins come from rap and while I am a fan of his, his lyrics are often cringeworthy and he does big himself up in every single track.

Word Dark Horse! I know exactly what you mean. I kinda like rap, it isn't my favorite genre (in top 10 probably 9) but I can dig it. However there is one thing I hate about AMERICAN rap, they are too fucking egomaniacs. They are always saying that they are the best, he is for real and not a phony (wtf does that even means?), no one can be as gangsta as he is...ETC ETC I don't giive a fuck if you are the richer man on the planet or how many cars you have or how many "hoes" and "bitches" you have (wich I find completely offensive btw). I don't like all the bling bling, I don't like how they say they come from a ghetto and now that they are rich and famous they don't help with their tons of money (some help their ghettos, but come on, with that amount of money you can do much more than that).

On the other hand latin rappers for example have social awareness. American rappes have the most shallow lyrics ever! I prefer Eminem cause he is always talking about his life and shit, but he isn't always saying "I'm rich and famous now and you aren't". My problem with rappers is that they represent a life of materialism.

Yes but some of htem are starting to approve.
Nicki Minaj-She actually has a good goal lon he rmind and can get deep with ehr lyrics.
Drake-Okay maybe not as deep an dhis subject range is redundant. I would say all he does is try to impress little kids with his metaphors to call it a hit.
Waka Flocka Flame-Is really someone who gets people to dance and hyped up but wouldnt call him a rapper.
Rick Ross-wannabe Biggie. maybe he was actually a gangster but even though people criticize him for being a correctional officer, cant blame him for having a legit job.
Wiz Khalifa-He actually can talk about some serious things if you listen to his mix tapes.
