I did this before with Aliens, and I want to open the field to more film series this time around. You can choose you're own format. Ascending to descending or descending to ascending, it doesn't matter. And feel free to add your own choices. Of course, I'm starting with Terminator, because I want to get it out of the way now:

1.Terminator 2: Judgment Day
2. The Terminator
3. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
4. Terminator Salvation

I might take some heat for it, but Judgment Day classifies as one of those rare films that surpasses the original in terms of quality. Salvation isn't at the bottom, because it's a terrible film. Christian Bale holds up his end of the bargain, but I can't say the same thing about Sam Worthington.

1.Terminator 2: Judgment Day
2. The Terminator
3. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
4. Terminator Salvation
Wouldnt change a bit...

"Terminator 2" is best in series with "Terminator 1" closely by, "Terminator 3" was just good to me and "Terminator 4" could be much better. Lot of people I talked about it considere 4 better than 3 but i find 3 to be good. Not great but good movie. :)

1. T2
2. Terminator
3. Salvation (minus the end I just dug it)
4. Rise of the Machines

Star Wars:

1. Empire
2. Sith (controversial but I am a big fan of the Prequels).
3. Star Wars
4. Jedi
5. Menace
6. Clones

Indiana Jones:

1. Raiders
2. Last Crusade
3. Crystal Skull
4. Temple of Doom

Star Wars:

1. Empire
2. Sith (controversial but I am a big fan of the Prequels).
3. Star Wars
4. Jedi
5. Menace
6. Clones

I guess your putting Sith up that high, because it's the best of the prequels? Is that enough to put it over A New Hope?

Anyway my Star Wars listing:

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return Of The Jedi
4. Revenge Of The Sith
5. The Phantom Menace
6. Attack Of The Clones

Yoda VS Dooku/Darth Tyranus is one of the worst final battles I've ever seen in any type of film. And Hayden Christensen is atrocious.

I go back and forth on Sith v. NH. For whatever reason the film just clicked with me. Hayden is fairly awful at times. He and Portman's shitty love story nearly ruined Clones. But he was better in Sith and I thought he portrayed the anger parts in both quite well.

It has been awhile since I have seen Sith and I need to do as well as Clones. But overall I am one of the few that will admit to enjoying the Prequels (Others have to as they made a shit load of dough in the theaters, rentals and still garner high ratings on TV).

Terminator films decreased in quality with each instalment, similar to the Alien & Indiana Jones franchises. T2 is a quality film but it's over long and at points has some of the most cringe-worthy dialogue ever seen in a major blockbuster.

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return Of The Jedi
4. Revenge Of The Sith
5. Attack Of The Clones
6. The Phantom Menace

I agree with Jake about the Terminator series, though I feel that the original is actually significantly more hammy and better for it. Terminator 2, while great, just sands down the rough edges and becomes just that much more conventional. I live for the rough edges, me.

 1. Terminator
 2. T2: Judgment Day
 3. Terminator 3
 4. Salvation

It's nice to see people ranking Empire at the top of their Star Wars list - because it's undoubtedly the best Star Wars film, and thankfully the one most untouched by Lucas' irritating revisions. There are days when I think it's the only good Star Wars film, though I suppose A New Hope and Jedi have their charms. I wanted to like the prequel trilogy when I was ten, but I couldn't even manage it back then.

 1. Empire Strikes Back
 2. A New Hope
 3. Return of the Jedi
 4. That other shite

I recently bought the Indiana Jones... collection on Blu-ray for £30, only to discover that I don't really like the Indiana Jones films. Joke's on me, I suppose.

And the definitive Alien list is obviously:

 1. Alien
 2. Aliens
 3. Alien 3

You can ignore anything not on that list, though Prometheus is a beautiful car wreck.

Ah, Aliens another difficult ranking. My list, excluding those awful AVP films, and Prometheus.

1. Aliens
2. Alien
3. Alien 3
4. Resurrection

EDIT: I forgot about Resurrection, and for good reasons.

Yes, I'm putting the sequel on top, but it's a close #1 pick, though. I've always enjoyed the bigger and bolder approach to sequels, and Cameron nailed it.

Back To The Future anyone?

1. Back To The Future Part II
2. Back To The Future
3. Back To The Future Part III

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I've always ranked Part II higher the original. I just love everything about the sequel. Biff as the heartless jerk in the alternate 1985, the cliffhanger at the end, and the constant twists and turns. Part II is more screwy than the first film. There's no doubt about it. But the story is more compelling, and it's a fun comedy.

In Part III, watching Marty take a trip to the 1800's is a bittersweet moment for me:

I can't get into the old west stuff, and then there's the ending. Why Emmet? Why?

Aliens
Alien
Alien 3
Resurrection

Back to the Future
Back to the Future II
Back to the Future III

I am going to attempt Star Trek: Show the nerd in me.

Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan
Star Trek VI: Undiscovered Country
Star Trek (09)
Star Trek: First Contact (Saw it recently, kind of disappointed)
Star Trek III: Search for Spock
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Uncut version)
Star Trek IV: Voyage Home
Star Trek Nemesis
Star Trek Generations
Star Trek V: Final Frontier
Star Trek Insurrection

Back to the Future II is awesome. I found it superior while growing up but recently I have watched the original again. I use it in my history class at the end of the year etc. It's just the perfect movie. Though I will say that the sequel is a close second.

Saw

1. Saw III
2. Saw II
3. Saw
4. Saw VII/3D
5. Saw VI
6. Saw IV
7. Saw V

Everything just goes down hill after Saw III, and for me, Saw III signifies the end of the glory days for the Saw franchise. I hated Saw 7/3D, when I first watched it in theaters. Jill's exit still bothers me, but #7 is starting to grow on me. Saw V is just horrendous. Boring, laborious, and the soul crushing realization of Hoffman as the new Jigsaw is just too much to handle.

Halloween (including remakes)

1. Halloween (1978)
2. Halloween 2 (1981)
3. Halloween (2007-theatrical version)
4. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
5. Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers
6. Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers
7. Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch
8. Halloween 6/The Curse Of Michael Myers
9. Halloween 2 (2009 theatrical & unrated version)
10. Halloween Resurrection

The original is a no-brainer as the #1 choice, and I've never understood the lukewarm reception for the original sequel. I still adore Rob Zombie's 2007 remake, but the uncut version features a very unnecessary and pointless rape scene.

H2 2009 was a fucking mess from beginning to end. It felt like Zombie was trying to cram three movies in one, and Michael's visions of his dead mother with a white horse just added to the massive clusterfuck. Malcolm McDowell's Loomis becomes an annoying pompous jerk here, and his inexplicable face turn at the end couldn't save his character. And the ending in the uncut version is somehow worse than the ending in the theatrical version.

Resurrection is a terrible, terrible film, and they killed off Laurie, the primary protagonist at the beginning. The satanic cult garbage and Dr. Wynn in #6 is unbearable. And there wasn't any room for Jamie in the new story, so I guess they had to kill off her character before Michael stalked his new victims.

A Nightmare on Elm Street*

A Nightmare on Elm Street
ANES 3: Dream Warriors
Wes Craven's "A New Nightmare"
Freddy's Dead
ANES 5: The Dream Child
ANES 4: The Dream Master
ANES 2: Freddy's Revenge

The first Nightmare was, for me, the most terrifying. The first extended looks that you get of Freddy in that movie, when he's going after Tina, coupled with the perfect music, were the scariest Freddy moments in the series. Plus, the bloody body bag in the high school hallway was another creepy image.

Dream Warriors was excellent because of the great visuals, engaging storyline, and Patricia Arquette, whom I obsessed over after this movie. Also, Nancy's death at the end was a complete surprise. The scenes with the doctor and Helen Kreuger were also eerie as hell.

A New Nightmare brought a fresh spin on the series, essentially defining the first six movies as in-movie fiction, with only this film actually taking place in "real-life." Plus, it was nice to see Heather Langenkamp (sp?) again reprise her role as Nancy.

From here down, the movies start to suck. Freddy's Dead was okay because Freddy was supposed to die in this, which peaked my interest and caused me to watch it in the theater. But, cheap 3D gimmick aside, I didn't care for the Freddy/Freddy's daughter story, and we all know Freddy will never really die.

The Dream Child: Better than 4 because it was darker, and the pregnancy story somewhat piqued my interest.

The Dream Master: Freddy is actually funny at some parts in this film, which takes away any and all scariness from it. Ironically, I think this film was one of the highest-grossing of the series. Great makeup and visuals, but the actors were lackluster, and the vixen Patricia Arquette was replaced by some other no-name chick who had no depth at all, which is probably the real reason why I placed this one so low.

Freddy's Revenge: Oh god. If you haven't watched this in a while, don't bother. The scene with Freddy ripping himself out of Jesse's body was pretty cool, but overall, this film didn't deliver. My biggest gripe: Freddy comes into the real-world during the pool party! NO! NO! NO! On an interesting note, I watched this about two years ago after not having seen it for over 15 years, and there are TONS of homo-erotic images and undertones to be found, not that there's anything wrong with that.

* I didn't watch the "re-imagining" of A Nightmare on Elm Street that came out a few years ago, and I probably wouldn't do so even at gunpoint. Also, I don't really consider Freddy v. Jason to be part of the canon (what a pretentious term for this series!), although I liked it very much.

I've seen it (unfortunately), so I'll include the remake. And I'll add Freddy VS Jason. I know it's a crossover, but technically, it's A Nightmare On Elm Street film. The storyline mainly revolves around Freddy's character, and killing him becomes the primary objective for the main characters.

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
2. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
3. Wes Craven's New Nightmare
4. A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
5. Freddy VS Jason
6. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
7. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
8. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
9. A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

The original is a one of a kind film, and a true classic. Freddy's Revenge was a shitty film, but to be fair, #2 had to overcome the challenge of topping, or matching the quality of the original, not an easy task. I've only seen Freddy's Dead a handful of times, and I just can't get into it. If I had the opportunity to see it in 3D during its theatrical run, I might change my mind, but I doubt it. Plus, I can't get that ridiculous image of Freddy imitating/mocking The Wicked Witch Of The West from The Wizard Of Oz.

Freddy VS Jason isn't monumental or ground breaking, but it's a nice treat for fans of both film series. The final action-esque style battle between Freddy and Jason at the end is good fun, and the gruesome deaths in this film are unreal. I'm just annoyed Jason Goes To Hell was chosen as the set-up film for this. Yeah, I know, Jason Goes To Hell was trying to be one of those intentionally "awfully good films, that are fun to mock," but it's still an unbearable abomination for me.

I didn't watch the "re-imagining" of A Nightmare on Elm Street that came out a few years ago, and I probably wouldn't do so even at gunpoint.

Lulz, and oddly enough the remake is the highest grossing film in the entire franchise with a slight lead over Freddy VS Jason.

But yeah, I wouldn't make an effort to watch the remake. It's not worth it. Rooney Mara is strong in the lead role, and Jackie Earle Haley gives a good effort as Freddy, but the rest of the cast is shit. And they wasted SO much time explaining the backgrounds and origins for Freddy. Um, he's Freddy Fucking Krueger, a well-known and popular horror icon. Ugh, such a terrible film.

I'd also put Freddy Vs. Jason in the middle of the list. I enjoyed the fight at the end as well. It was cool to get two big names in the horror industry fighting each other, like in a non-canon comic book limited series or one-shot.

I'll try to post a reply to the Saw and Halloween lists tomorrow.

As a huge Freddy fan, I can't not post about this.

Dream Warriors
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Freddy's Dead
Freddy Vs. Jason
Dream Master
Dream Child
Wes Craven's New Nightmare
Freddy's revenge

Dream Warriors is not the best actual movie in the series. It's clearly the original. But I pick it first because it's my favorite to watch and also the film that got me into Freddy Krueger. It does the best job of all the films of combing his horror, creepyness and humor. It easily has the best death scene in the entire series, and the return of Nancy was a great swerve. This film is the entire reason why Dream Masters grossed so much.

The original is the best complete movie. It's scary and they do a good job with the characters. The only reason I'd say I don't like this movie as much as others is because the Krueger character hasn't developed his sense of humor yet. He still mentally tortures people, but strictly in a scary way.

I've always liked Freddy's Dead. Probably because of the over abundance of the humor aspect. But I understand why it's rated so bad. They went too far with the joking around and it's over the top. Also, they made a poor decision with the lead male. It's even more apparent in the second film.

With Freddy Vs Jason I thought they did a good job of mixing the horror styles. Freddy was never a gory villain, like Jason. Actually one of my favorite memories from watching the movie is listening to people's reactions to the kind of creepy horror that comes with a Freddy Krueger nightmare. The film is pretty basic and there's some bad acting.

Dream Master was ok but this is where the series starts going way downhill. They started getting too complicated with the theory of "powers" in your dream. This is also where deaths in the series start to become too elaborate.

Dream Child takes the complication to a new level. Now a child is dreaming and you're seeing it? If I didn't love the Freddy Krueger character so much I would never watch this movie.

Wes Craven gave Freddy an extra blade on his glove. Wtf? You don't change Freddy Krueger. His look in this entire movie is different. Screw the film. That sealed it for me. The small detail changes they made to Freddy in Freddy Vs Jason didn't bother me near as much. Though he does take on a more goblin look.

Freddy's Revenge was done so poorly that even changing Freddy wasn't this bad. Though the concept behind how he kills people in this movie is a little weird. The biggest problem with this movie though is the male lead. That's straight out of one of the creator's mouths.

Now I'll do Die Hard:

Die Hard
Die Hard With A Vengeance
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
Live Free or Die Hard

Obviously since I haven't seen the new one, I have no opinion of it. I don't rate Live Free or Die Hard at the bottom because I don't like it. It was a little over the top sometimes, but I enjoy the movie. I just think the other three are better.

I just watched New Nightmare for the first time since the theaters. It was okay. Langenkamp is not a very good actress. Kind of disappointing. I did enjoy Freddy v. Jason as I saw that last week for the first time. A bit surprised that no sequel has been made (I did not like the remake of Nightmare at all).

As for Die Hard:

Die Hard
Die Hard 2
Live Free or Die Hard
Die Hard with a Vengeance: I just saw this one again and for some reason it did not really resonate. But I am wary of putting the one with the Apple Guy above it.

Star Wars
1) Revenge of the Sith
2) Empire Strikes Back
3) Return of the Jedi
4) A New Hope
5) Phantom Menace
6) Attack of the Clones

007 James Bond Series (I'm only ranking the Daniel Craig films because I can only claim seeing a little more than half of the 23 in the series.)
1) Casino Royale
2) Skyfall
3) Quantum of Solace

X-Men
1) X-Men
2) Wolverine
3) X-2
4) First Class
5) X-III The Last Stand

No remake? You're still on the hardline stance of never watching it or giving it chance? If you are, I don't blame you at all, just wondering.

Mitch, you and I discussed this before a long time ago on a previous horror movie thread. I like Jackie Earl Haley, but there is no other Freddy Krueger. He might've even done a good job. I'll never know.

Another thing I want to add (it's too late to edit) about Freddy's Dead. I like how they delve into Freddy's past. They don't cliche the hell out of it like some movies. Sure, Alice Cooper comes down to abuse him in one scene from his past, but it's much more disturbing that he was cutting himself with a straight razor beforehand simply because he liked the pain. Plus the scene in school with the mice is quite sick. Freddy Krueger is clearly the most interesting character in the series (duh), so I liked them explaining his past in that movie beyond the "son of a hundred maniacs" background.

JURASSIC PARK

Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park 2
Jurassic Park 3

Jurassic Park is an all-time classic, one of my favorites and IMO, in context, one of the greatest movies of all time. Took special effects to a new level and made dinosaurs look real, not just computerized.

Jurassic Park 2 - The overall premise was kinda ok I guess. It started out kinda decent and then got horrible and beyond ridiculous.

Jurassic Park 3 - Terrible.

AMERICAN PIE

American Pie
American Wedding
American Pie 2
American Reunion

The original American Pie is a great movie. It's a comedy classic for me.

The sequels all stunk but if I had to rank them, I'd rank them as above. American Reunion was a waste of time and American Pie 2 was kinda funny but I think maybe I expected too much.

*I'm not even going to waste my time with those spinoffs with Stifler's brother or whatever.

Jurassic Park

1. Jurassic Park
2. Jurassic Park: The Lost World
3. Jurassic Park III

I've never been a big fan of the Lost World, but Part 3 features one of the worst endings I've seen any type of film.

American Pie

1. American Pie
2. American Reunion
3. American Wedding
4. American Pie 2

I actually enjoyed American Reunion, because it was a nice nostalgia kick for fans of the franchise, and Stiffler finally got his revenge on Finch. I won't bother listing the shitty straight-to-video sequels. They're abominations. The STV sequels tried cover up shitty acting, directing, and stories with obscene amounts of nudity, and each film deserves the lowest rating on any scale.

Die Hard

1. Die Hard With A Vengeance
2. Die Hard
3. Live Free Or Die Hard
4. Die Hard 2
5. A Good Day To Die Hard

It's not as bad as the critics are making it out to be, but A Good Day To Die Hard isn't something to brag about either. It's the weakest film in the entire franchise, and it's not even close.

Die Hard is known for having some memorable villains, but the antagonists in this film are beyond dull. One of the Russian bad guys does a dance, while eating a carrot, and kicking away Jack and John's guns. Yeah.

A Good Day To Die Hard hard is loaded with flashy and over the top explosions, car chases, and action sequences. Die Hard 5 wanted to be the quintessential Hollywood action movie, but the end result was an underwhelming popcorn flick.

Most of the good action sequences are shown in the trailers, and overall, Die Hard 5 is pretty dull. You'll only see Mary Elizabeth Winstead at the very beginning and the very end. But Jack was the focal point of this film, so her limited screen time makes sense. And speaking of Jack, Jai Courtney wouldn't be a good choice to inherit the franchise, as the next McClane. Oh, and Willis tacks on a "yippee ki-yay motherfucker" at the end for the sake of nostalgia. But it was so random and forced, and hearing John's signature catchphrase again didn't do anything for me.

Die Hard With A Vengeance over Die Hard? I am very intrigued by this choice!

For me they are the best 2 of the franchise quite easily as 2 just plodded along and didn't do too much for me. I wouldn't mind seeing it again as it has been a while since I saw it but I doubt I will place it above Vengeance.

What makes Die Hard the best for me is that if its on tv, whatever stage the film is at, it's hard to not watch the rest of it. The pacing, humour and violence are nigh on perfect, but Willis' performance is the best out of all the others due to his frustration and use of humour as a coping mechanism for what is an unbelievable situation, when all he was there for was to see his wife. And of course, Rickman is a brilliant villain.

Die Hard
Vengeance
2
The bullshit helicopter one
Russia (probably)

Die Hard With A Vengeance over Die Hard? I am very intrigued by this choice!

The banter between Willis and Jackson is just priceless. I kid you not, I've probably watched #3 twenty times or more over the years, but it still cracks me up each time. The arguments between Willis and Jackson never get old for me, and I've memorized most of their verbal duels:

John: "You don't know how to shoot a gun?"

Zeus: "Look, not all brothers know how to shoot guns, you racist motherfucker."

And Simon's warning to the psychotic chick after slashing the security guard in the vault:

"I think he's dead, my dear."

With A Vengeance has the more intriguing story, and the twists and turns during Simon's game of cat and mouse keep you on edge, because you never know what's going to happen next. And speaking of Simon, Jeremy Irons is the best Die Hard villain. Simon/Peter is smarter and more devious, and for my money, he's the better brother.

The Star Wars Saga
Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Revenge of the Sith
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones

As much as I like A New Hope - however iconic and timeless it may be- Empire will always be the best in the Star Wars franchise. It's the Wrath of Khan, or The Dark Knight of the space fantasy universe. And before that argument goes down, I had to write a whole paper in college about how Star Wars is more fantasy than it is sci-fi; let's just leave it.

Jedi is also a good film, and I honestly don't give a shit about furry bear creatures. I thought they were a fun character as a kid, and I really don't feel like they took away from the movie or the series, or "bastardize" the franchise authenticity in any way. There's way more fuss about them than there needs to be. I've never really been satisfied by the end. Luke fulfilled his destiny, sure. But I always felt they could have brought Vader his salvation by actually keeping him alive. Could have spawned some interesting debate and potential for future movies. Unfortunately, without the info from the first 3 movies, I didn't care about Vader as anything more than a walking metal menace with some perceived horror that I didn't quite buy into. That's jut me though.

Revenge of the Sith is actually, all things considered, a pretty decent film. The scene with Anakin destroying the Jedi temple was dark, and - unless you have no soul - pretty emotionally taxing. There are some pretty cool fight scenes, and the acting is probably at its best for the second trilogy. Hayden Christensen is abysmal, so on that front it really doesn't matter.

Phantom Menace, while painfully dull, is better than its sequel. Darth Maul was just straight-up badass. The twin-blade was kind of there for shock and awe, but Lucasfilms CGI was incredible and made him such an awesome bad guy. Too bad he got sliced in half in his first actual fight... That really is my biggest compliant about the second trilogy: there's no consistent bad guy to actually care about. Just an ever-looming sense of "evil" that popped up in the form of the Emperor. Again, that's why I like Revenge of the Sith, because more or less Anakin is a villain you are emotionally invested in.

And then there's Attack of the Clones. Dear god...that movie is awful. Anakin and Padme made probably the worst couple in cinema history. Their acting is dreadful. Absolutely awful. Their secret relationship was annoying, and to be honest, I'd rather watch Jacob and Bella from Twilight have whiny, emo "Define the Relationship" arguments. I don't think there was anything redeeming about this movie. Obi-Wan on Kamino, maybe? The cool monsters in the arena, perhaps? Small potatoes for a movie so overwhelmingly bad throughout.

I still adore Rob Zombie's 2007 remake, but the uncut version features a very unnecessary and pointless rape scene.

Totally agree with this, the uncut version didn't flow as well as the theatrical version to me as well.

Anywho I'll throw out another list.

Friday the 13th

1. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
2. Friday the 13th (1980 original)
3. Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Take Manhattan
4. Friday the 13th III
5. Friday the 13th V: Jason Lives
6. Jason X
7. Jason Goes to Hell
8. Freddy vs Jason
9. Friday the 13th II
10. Friday the 13th: A New Beginning
11. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood

Haven't seen the re-make yet, not because I don't want to just haven't for whatever reasons. Most Friday fans would probably get pissed at Jason X being so high but I thought it was a fun movie that managed to capture the essence of the franchise and throw it in space, adding some fun twists and turns on the way. Final Chapter is number 1 mainly because it sticks out the most out for me, being the first one I saw. When I was about 10 or 11 I bought the VHS for it and watched the shit out of it.

Evil Dead

1. Evil Dead
2. Evil Dead 2
3. Army of Darkness

New one's coming out so why not? The first Evil Dead will forever be in my fave five movies of all time, I can't count how many times I have seen it. A lot of fans prefer Evil Dead 2 and I can see how many would see it as the superior film but the original is wrapped too tightly around my heart for me to agree I guess.
