Random thought of the moment, main eventers in the midcard

So I was looking for a Chris Jericho render to make a new tag and started thinking of his accolades, specifically of him being the Intercontinental champ more times than anyone else and it got me thinking.

Why NOT have someone like him in the mid card?

Some one with main event status to bring back a bit of, i guess you could say, credibility to the mid card? Just because someone should be in the main event doesn't necessarily mean that have to be right?

(it could be a lot of people not just Jericho)

Depend on if you classify Jericho as a main eventer. I dont because he isn't really.

The idea is generally solid because there are only a few genuine main eventers in WWE.

I was going to say the same thing, Numbers. I always wonder why WWE puts midcarders in the main event. Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, CM Punk, Steve Austin. It really makes the whole roster look second-rate when guys like them get world titles.

Jericho is and always was a placeholder and at best, a flavour of the month. Guerrero, RVD and Benoit were the same. CM Punk was in this bracket too. Mysterio is there now. In MMA they call them gatekeepers and most divisions have them. Guerrero was the only one who made an impact on the main event while he was there.

I'm not doubting each of those guys worked hard and I agree they usually made the most of what they had once they got the spot, RVD was the exception but that was his own fault but WWE hardly to reinstate him there. But the WWE weren't rushing to book them in a series of main event matches once they had their run. Benoit got dumped, so did RVD and Jericho was hardly a mainstay, especially in his last six months.

And you know as well as most people here, that Austin would have been next to nothing without the catchphrase at KOTR 96. He forced WWE to take notice. Who out of the names you mentioned forced them to do that for more than six months at a time? Austin did it for eight years.

While I agree with most of what you're saying there, Eddie was moving the needle with the budding Hispanic demo on the blue brand. If he hadn't lost confidence in himself and then died, the company would have determined he had staying power.

Pretty sure Eddie was being pushed to take the title off of Batista right before he passed away.

As for Jericho the majority of his Main Event Title runs he was booked as a heel, most of them a cowardly heel who won the title somehow by being in the right place at the right now. How many run ins took place when he became the first Undisputed Champion?

Would you say the same for Edge?

Edge was a much better champion than Jericho ever was. It suited his character more. Plus, during the Smackdown Six era, it was beyond clear that Edge had it. By and large, Jericho flopped on top. He's jobbed to Cena more than anyone else. That says a lot by itself.

I wouldn't say Jericho flopped. I'd say he served his purpose, but that Edge's purpose was much greater than Jericho's in the eyes of management. I'd also say that Edge had it in the ring before his neck injury, but he didn't really start clicking as a personality until he turned heel in 2004. And at that point, he'd lost a good deal of what he'd had in the ring.

I watch wrestling for wrestling, not second rate hacktors. But I understand that I'm in the minority on that.

True, but the ability to make the fans give a fuck about you and what you're doing is more important than the ability to wow people in the ring.

But then, I mark for Justin Gabriel so what do I know.

The rumors were Eddie vs. Benoit at Mania 22 for the title. So pretty safe to say big Dave was going to get a break from the title. Supposedly he was going to feud with Orton.

Jericho never really had a run with the title as a face, so his heel work was just fine. He never was going to be anything more then a transitional champion.

Edge really fucked himself by fucking Lita. Dirtsheets say Triple H was never a big Edge guy after that and it took a lot for Edge to build himself back up with him. However, the ultimate Opportunist gimmick worked fucking wonders. Edge as a heel should never have been a champion more then a month at a time. I love how people get pissed that he's an 11 time champion, um, that's the damn point of his gimmick.

Odd because Jericho carried the Blue Brand in Edge's absence, while Edge was out nursing his injured heel.

Honestly you can't knock Jericho, his feuds with HBK were amazing, his feud with Edge was great, but when he's put against and Cena or a Triple H he's going to get downplayed and devalued.

As good as Orton is, Orton vs Batista in a long term program has shit written all over it. Batista was only good at the end of his career.

Eddie vs Benoit would have been interesting to see, although I never really cared for Benoit.

Triple H can eat miles of penis, and I agree he's 11 time champion, but fuck him and Cena traded the WWE title back and forth 4 or 5 times in the span of a year.

You must be talking about somebody else.

Jericho carried nothing, he was one of many behind SD in 2009. Jericho is good when with a superior worker, especially one who fits his style., like Edge or HBK. But he didn't mesh well with big guys like HHH or Cena.
