Predict Summerslam 2016

NotoriousWWE

Pre-Show Stalwart
I don't know if there is already a thread on this and if there is I apologize, but of all the PPVs coming up soon, I think we can all agree Summerslam is the most intriguing. So here I'm gonna look at what I expect to see happen at WWE's second biggest event of the year.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose

This is a match everybody keeps suggesting might happen at Mania but give that MITB is coming up I think it's extremely likely we see WWE press ahead with plans to maybe push Ambrose and make the three way for Summerslam. Take in to account that Reigns is very much a tweener right now, Rollins a heel and Ambrose a face, this match makes sense but I don't even really care for it to happen. I'm going with the assumption that there is only one World Title after the Draft expansion.

The Club (AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Gallows and Anderson) vs John Cena and The New Day

Recent events have seen The Club target Cena and therefore I see after Styles vs Cena inevitably takes place at MITB, and a normal tag match between the others followed by a tag title match at Battleground occurring, this being the outcome. I don't know if I see it being a freebird rule match for the titles but I do see Balor debuting prior by helping Styles beat Cena at MITB. I was tinkering with the idea that maybe they'd do The Club vs The Wyatts but I think it's too early and that has Survivor Series written all over it.

Brock Lesnar vs Bray Wyatt

Took me ages to think what WWE would do with Lesnar at this years event and I really don't even feel a need for him to appear, but then I remembered a lot of articles I had seen post Mania suggesting this match would happen. If this does happen, Wyatt must go over even if it be by distraction. I just cannot see Wyatt being able to get over yet another high profile loss and coming out of it still intimidating. After this Wyatt should go into the title picture and maybe he could even go through a face turn.

United States Championship: Rusev (c) vs Cesaro

I see the United States title going to SmackDown after the draft and therefore I think we will see Cesaro pushed as one of its top faces given how much exposure that brand will allow. The perfect way to do this would be have him hold the US Title and I think that will happen. The only reason I thought they were putting the title on Rusev was because of Cena's return but seeing as they went down the route of having Titus O'Neill feud with Rusev, I don't see him holding the title for too long. I think we will see these two in some sort of gimmick match, maybe a submission match?

Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn

Another match I'm not too sure about, but I went with what makes sense. These two have had what I think is WWE's most interesting and entertaining feud this year. I see both superstars getting drafted to RAW and continuing their feud with this being the finale. Again maybe a stipulation is needed such as a Cage?

Intercontinental Championship: 20 man Battle Royal

I see Miz being put on RAW and having some sort of feud with its GM (probably Shane McMahon). I wasn't paying attention to this past weeks RAW but I seem to remember Miz mentioning he wouldn't be seen for a bit because he'd be too busy filming Marine 5. This makes perfect sense for Shane to use as leverage saying he has had time off and deserves a challenge. I see Baron Corbin grabbing the title.

Women's Championship: Charlotte (c) vs Bayley

So from what I've read Vince isn't too high on Sasha Banks. I honestly don't understand that but whatever. If he isn't then I don't expect to see the match I was expecting to see at Mania which was Charlotte vs Banks vs Bayley vs Lynch. Instead I think Bayley will debut after Battleground and start an immediate feud with Charlotte.

There's my predictions, a lot likely won't occur and so I just went with how I'd book some of the show. What's yours?

This wouldn't be a bad card at all, and I'd certainly be interested in seeing most of these matches. There are, however, a few that I just don't see happening. But I'll get to those. First, though, I want to mention that SummerSlam is a four-hour show. So the thought of 7 matches just seems light. Additionally, they'll likely have at least one - possibly two - pre-show matches. Hopefully the card doesn't get booked in such a way that the audience is exhausted by the main event, as happened at WrestleMania, but I do see at least 10 matches on this card (last year's had 10.) And really, so long as SummerSlam doesn't book a concert, a bunch of cheerleaders and a 45-minute promo from The Rock, then I think this show could easily fit 12 matches without completely losing its audience at the end.

Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar WWE Title Match
They want to make Reigns look like a beast. What better way to do that than for him to finally go over THE beast? While Wyatt certainly has a claim to wrestle Lesnar after their program was prematurely scrapped leading to WrestleMania, I just think using Lesnar to put over Reigns will have the most long-lasting effect on the company. Plus, the two will likely put on a brutal, hard-hitting match that should win over an audience that will want to shit all over it (which is something Reigns fights against at the start of every match.)

John Cena vs AJ Styles World Heavyweight Title Match
I don't usually like predicting a trilogy of matches that culminates in a main event slot of the second-biggest pay-per-view of the year, but the brand split changes my opinion somewhat. I'm of the mindset that for a brand split to be successful, there needs to be a World Champion unique to both shows. Some might disagree, and I certainly understand the problems that can arise when the writers need to find FOUR wrestlers every month to work World Title programs, but I think the negatives of having one World Champion outweighs the negatives of having unique champs for each brand. With that said, I can see a situation where whoever is running Smackdown gets upset when Reigns/Lesnar is announced as the main event of SummerSlam and responds by creating his/her own World Championship. If/When that happens, there will be no better program to add the title stipulation to than Cena/Styles who should be wrestling in a rubber match-up at that point (Yep. I assume that they'll wrestler at MITB and Battelground, splitting the two contests.)

New Day vs. Enzo and Cass WWE Tag Team Title Match
This is the match people want to see, and SummerSlam is a big enough showcase for the WWE to make money off it. They're easily the two most over tag-teams in the company, and putting them on the mic against each other in the build-up to the show will be a fun watch for every wrestling fan. I understand why you think The Club might play a role w/ The New Day at SummerSlam, especially given their involvement this past Monday, but I don't think the WWE is setting up SummerSlam just yet for the tag-team division. Furthermore, whatever happens with The New Day at SummerSlam SHOULD be centered around the Tag Titles.

Charlotte vs. Bayley Women's Title Match
I completely agree with you on this one. A week ago, I 'd have said that this match would feature Sasha Banks as the contender, but the reports from earlier this week have changed my opinion (and I'm sure reports next week will change my opinion again!) Bayley, to me, is the future of this division. So giving her a huge moment at a big showcase like SummerSlam is definitely something that should happen.

The Miz vs Cesaro Intercontinental Title Match
When booking The Miz, we need to remember that the biggest reason he's holding the title right now is because Maryse will be featured on Total Divas. It sounds silly, but the divas on that show typically get booked for optics, and that means she needs to be in a shining role - one that doesn't include 20 other guys around the ring. I fully see the WWE using this stage to finally give Cesaro the title, possibly based on a botched interference by Maryse.

Rusev vs Dean Ambrose US Title Match
A lot of people think that Ambrose has ascended into the main event, but I'm not really on that boat. While he could easily win the MITB match in a few weeks, I just think the guy needs to be rebuilt after a lackluster start to 2016. I can't say that being fed to Rusev is the best way to do this, but I'm a believer that Ambrose's gimmick lends itself to him getting his ass kicked. And from there, you build his toughness based on how many times he can get up despite the ass-kickings. Rusev is an ass-kicker. And so I think this lines up pretty well. Just have Rusev pummel him, but have Ambrose continually get to his feet despite the beating. FWIW, this is how I hoped they would've booked his WrestleMania match against Lesnar...

Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn
I'm on the fence with this one. On one hand, their program is going to continue regardless of what happens in their matches as the only character trait Zayn has shown since debuting on Raw is that he's Owens' former best friend (seriously, he needs to find something else or he'll fall off the wagon once Owens moves on.) So it makes sense to have them wrestle at SummerSlam. On the other hand, they've already wrestled a few times, and continuing their program could start to stall Owens on his way to bigger and better things.

Seth Rollins vs Bray Wyatt
Part of me wants to switch Wyatt and Zayn here so that Rollins would fight Zayn and Wyat would fight Owens. I'd honestly be satisfied with either match, but the kicker for me is the history between Wyatt and Rollins that dates back to The Shield taking on The Wyatts. Perhaps I'm alone on this, but after the promo The Rock gave at WrestleMania, I really believe that Wyatt is being shifted into a face. Rollins would be a great first program to work if he does, in fact, turn. Additionally, Wyatt has a strong enough fan base that no one would get the impression that Rollins was getting lost in the shuffle after his WWE Title program with Reigns ends.

Randy Orton vs Baron Corbin
Orton is coming back before long and Corbin eventually needs to move off Ziggler. This match makes sense as a young guy can establish himself by taking on a former top star. Will it be the most exciting match? Absolutely not. But it gives Corbin something. And there has to be a slower, less intense, match somewhere on the card.

The Vaudvillains vs. The Club vs. The Lucha Dragons vs. The Usos Number One Contenders Match
There are a few things I hope happen with the brand split, and one of them is to put the women's Division on one show and the tag-team division on the other show. By making each division exclusive to one brand, not only would the WWE be keeping both divisions strong, but it would actually allow more time to develop non-title programs for each division. That being the case, we can actually see the return of Number One Contenders matches!

Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks vs. Paige Number One Contenders Match
Same point as above. I just REALLY want to see the WWE running multiple, meaningful programs in these divisions so that the top contender to the title doesn't seemingly get thrust into a title program after a few months of not really doing anything meaningful.

Apollo Crews and American Alpha vs Del Rio, Sheamus and Jericho
Another change-of-pace match that can get the older guard on the card while also giving a place to some of the younger guys. Basically, this would be a mini program that shows disgruntled veterans upset that their spots are being taken by the new era guys. We've already seen Sheamus attack Crews with this concept in mind. We've also seen Jericho have his problems with Cass, stemming around a similar idea of the new guys taking over. Del Rio can easily fit into this picture as he's worked with Sheamus in the past and plays a heel character. American Alpha fits in because it's a nice soft debut for them that doesn't put the pressure on them that would come with immediately thrusting them into the tag-team title picture.

Here's my prediction..it's a snooze fest until Kurt Angle returns...yep I said it...summerslam..the return of Kurt Angle

Good guess here, OP, I had thought of it too the moment the RAW angle took place. It's obvious Joe will retain next Wednesday, and with Roode's eminent arrival, Hideo Itami returning, Shinsuke and Aries elevating up the card, Finn is finally free to come up to the main roster with Bayley.

Bray Wyatt vs. Shane McMahon

#! Contendership for New Day's World Tag Team Championship
The Revival vs. Vaudvillains vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Enzo & Cass

Charlotte vs. Dana Brooke - This might happen shortly after SummerSlam, but Dana Brooke will likely be the women to take the title from Charlotte.

Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton - Orton is coming back soon and this is a match most people want to see. Not many guys are left for Lesnar

Gallows and Anderson vs. Enzo and Big Cass - New Day need to lose the titles soon. They've become boring and stale, time to move on from this circus act.. Gallows and Anderson take the titles and feud with Enzo and Cass in the Summer time.

AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn - No explanation for this one, you just figure both guys need a match at SummerSlam.

Seth Rollins vs. Triple H - It's a match that's destined to happen eventually.

John Cena vs. Roman Reigns.

It's still a bit too soon to see some of the card coming together but I have some thoughts on what I would like to see personally. Of course, there is a long way to go before SummerSlam comes, so anything could, and probably will, change.

Roman Reigns versus Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose

This is it, ladies and gentlemen, this is the match that we are going to see on a WWE screen for the next 10 years. WWE is high on all 3 of them and are just waiting to pull the trigger on this one. Thankfully, all of the pieces seem to have aligned for the WWE to pull this one off and it is only a matter of time until it happens. A lot of people will be thinking of WrestleMania for this match but I don't think we'll be waiting that long.

John Cena versus AJ Styles

Yep, this one is going to go the distance all the way to SummerSlam I reckon. AJ Styles versus John Cena is a match that we never though we would see as wrestling fans. So it deserves to get a spot on a big PPV and I think that is what we are going to get.

Randy Orton versus Brock Lesnar

This one is, surely, nailed on, right? Someone else pointed out in this thread that there isn't a lot of options left for Brock Lesnar right now. Randy Orton is one of the remaining few guys who might push Lesnar to the limit. And he is about the only guy left who Lesnar hasn't decimated and left standing with absolutely no reputation afterwards. I think the stars will align on this one.

Charlotte versus Bayley

Make it happen...

That's all I have at the moment. Plenty of other great matches out there and I suppose it will take shape pretty soon.

My Fantasy Match Card for WWE SummerSlam 2016:(Some matches...)

WWE RAW Heavyweight Championship:
Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose
We have all been waiting for everything to come full circle, and with; MitB around the corner, one SHIELD guy holding the title, and another just returning after a long layoff, I think it is safe to say this one is as ready as can be.

WWE SmackDown! Heavyweight Championship:
John Cena vs AJ Styles
I believe these guys'll be heading LIVE SmackDown, and whilst I would have loved them kept apart until it actually started, I feel that with the 'extras' included to start the feud, it will drag till SummerSlam for a marquee match for the ages.

Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman vs Randy Orton
This has been a fantasy match-up of mine for a while, and I think that WWE shouldn't wait any longer to pull the trigger on it. I know Brock vs Bray was the plan, but at this time, I just don't feel Bray has been built up to be much of a threat for Brock in any way. The Viper on the other hand, is always a threat given his storied career thus far.

Bray Wyatt vs Triple H
Now, Triple H is coming off a loss at Mania, and whilst storyline would demand he get back at either Reigns/Rollins, I think Bray Wyatt and his family would be the perfect way to give him a detour, and even be the way to establish Bray Wyatt as a threat again with the Brand Split in motion.

WWE Intercontinental Championship: Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens
I just think these guys will go higher, but at this present point, this is their ceiling, and them tearing down the house for the IC title could be a great way to springboard them post-SummerSlam. Doesn't matter who wins either, because this rivalry will never ever have an ending...

WWE United States Championship: Rusev w/ Lana vs Cesaro
This is a match that has happened a few times on TV, but I feel it would be a perfect way to elevate the US title. These 2 are very capable in the ring, and I feel it would be better than Miz vs Cesaro has been with Lana playing the Maryse role.

Lesnar fighting at UFC 200? Well I predict Summerslam 2016 will see BL jobbed out to the Miz by roll up in 10 seconds. TAKE THAT BROCK - NOBODY F***S with VKM!
