There are always extremists. But the primaries usually eliminate them. The Republican party will get together and decide who's the best to be nominated. And it won't be an extreme right douchebag. People tend to forget it's up to US to decide who is running, not the conservative or liberal media. Palin, Bachmann, Barbour, and company won't decide who's running. It's the people. And I guarantee the Republican people aren't going to pick somebody they know will lose to Obama worse than McCain did.

This isn't 2008, things have changed. The GOP landscape is different. GOP candidates are terrified of the Tea Party, look at the 2010 elections. That's why these guys are all moving to the right. The Tea Party has very little power in a Presidential election, but primary season is a different story. If you think the millions who are voting in the GOP primaries will think about who can actually win a general election, I disagree. They want the furthest right candidate they can find, and that's why these guys continue to move even further right.

Only Republican candidate that I'd vote for (at the moment) is Mitt Romney. If Bobby Jindal decides to not wait until 2016, I'll be going balls-to-the-wall in campaigning for him.

For awhile he was the Obama kryptonite, it seemed. Anytime Obama made a statement he'd respond with his own as the "face" of the Republican party. As such, I figured he'd be the leading candidate. Thought he'd do pretty good to, surprised to see he's not even an entry.
I don't see how Palin can hold her sway over the people if she doesn't run against Obama. Then again, people are stupid.

Her biggest forum is FOX News, specifically The O'Reilly Factor. She has absolutely bombed the last couple of times she's been there, and Bill hasn't been nice to her in the aftermath. Not like I'm hoping she makes any noise in any real election, but that woman needs to step her game up, or she's finished on the national scene.
