Occasional Pre-Show
Has anyone here ever taken a step back and wondered about why there is such a demand by some to have pro-wrestlers use their real names?
I mean, think about it: What other form of scripted entertainment has a fan base that expects the cast to use their real names? What other form of TV entertainment has the actors use other actors' real names as a way of getting under their skin?
I can understand not wanting wrestlers to have stupid stage names (Michael McGillicutty comes to mind), but their actual names?
Strange, isn't it?
I wonder if, as someone who was not alive for most of the 80s, this was the norm and that only relatively recently (late 80s, early 90s) usage of real names was the norm. Then again, that might have been during the time decades back when pro-wrestling was indeed trying to market itself as not being scripted.
Feedback? I look forward to it.
