Ok, 2010 has been the year of many great albums released.
I've gotta go with Danger Days. The album was just totally unexpected as being an MCR album, with some of the catchiest songs this year & lyrics as memorable as fuck.

How bout you guys?

Yeah, I put things like Bieber in there 'cos who knows, someone might enjoy it.

I got a small chuckle out of your album choices. I'll post mine, I have three right now that are tied for first in my mind.

#1 The Acacia strain: Wormwood

Right now I love this album, Its hard. It really is this year for me to choose. As music evolves so do my tastes. I like hard brutal playing, but I also like good solid playing. This album has it all for me, great riffs, brutal lyrics, and breakneck breakdowns. My money on the Acacia strain to follow up this album with another groundbreaking album.

Funny fact, over the summer I participated in the grass roots campaign for this album. I went to local record stores, video game stores and just handed out flyers to friends. I put over 200 flyers in stores and on cars in one town alone after a concert over the summer. They sent you like 20 stickers and a few flyers. You were to run off flyers in a copy machine and put them out. It was a really cool time for me, to hand out shit for a band that I like.

#2 Dimmu Borgir- Abrahadabra

maimaidimabr.jpg

Last year I first herd that Dimmu were going to be putting out a new album. I was stoked, here is a fine example of my varied music taste. Dimmu is arguably the biggest Black metal band to date. They've played to millions and millions. Well after waiting a few months I seen that the date had been put back, I wondered why. They had fired a few members of the band sighting that they had put no effort into the new album. I was actually pretty suprised because the two that they fired were amazing musicians. Ics vortex their bassist has an amazing clean vocal range, and former keyboardist Mustis is a beast.

The album is purely amazing at all levels. The orchestra that they are using now is a top notch group of people, and suprisingly I didn't even miss the clean vocals. Becuase believe it or not they put over the lead singer and he's got some pretty good clean vocals to.

The guitar playing and drumming for this album is also off the charts. I was suprised at that, they lost one of the best drummers in my mind Jean Axl Blomberg to a neck injury. The guy who they got to replace him is just another beast on the set. So all and all i'm not really missing the older memebers they replaced. They got back to the roots on this album. Pure symphonic genius at its highest musical form.

#3 High on fire- Snakes for the Divine

This to me might not be the best album of 2010, but it is deffinatly getting a nod from me. Matt Pike reminds me so much of Lemmy from Motorhead its not even funny. He's just fucking ulgy, everything screams at me to just not look at him. But his music just draws you in.

He also reminds me of Dave Mustaine alot to. His guitar playing is just impeccable right now. He's one of the top 5 guitar players of the new metal scene. Whats sad is they aren't getting the respect that they diserve. I personally got the album and have played it about 20 times. Its flawless, but it hasen't changed to much from the eirlier shit they've played.

That is the only thing stopping me from voting this the top album of 2010. Snakes for the divine is full of great storytelling lyrics, and fucking blow your mind guitar playing. But its not that much of a change from older cd's. I guess when your as good of a player as Matt is you can't really expect more from him. I'm praying for a new album soon that will just make my ears bleed. Becuase thats what Matt Pike is capable of.

They weren't really my choices, I could've come up with loads of others, but I went with popular ones, that people may vote for.

I voted for other, mainly because I couldn't decide between some of the bands you''ve chosen. I gotta give album of the year to "Recovery" by Eminem. Wasn't his best work in my humble opinion, but you cant deny the amount of success it had. So those is based off 2 opinions, one because there is no question it won't win at the grammys (i know grammys dont mean jack shit), and Eminem is one of my favorite artists of all time. I never even heard of the bands the dude above me posted about either.

Other.

Escape the Fate - Escape the Fate.

Escape the Fate released their self titled 3rd studio album not that long ago and it is so insane it is just that, insane. So much better than This War is Ours and while it does not beat Dying Is Your Latest Fashion it is still an awesome album. Easy to listen to from start to finish. Bryan has some awesome guitar solos, Craig's got some epic screaming and Roberts drumming in all the songs but especially Massacre and The Aftermath is just epic.

If you have not had a listen to it, I strongly suggest you check the previously mentioned songs on YouTube or something.

Coz their metal bands dude, I personally didn't see what all the hype was about for eminem this year. What he puts a little more heart into lyrics and he's getting nominated for grammys again? What the hell is this shit man, he's been doing this for years now.

To me its just a small change on the same shit he's been doing for years. He still has the same flow, the beats for the most part are at par for most of his older albums. He didn't go out of his way to change much up.

I guess if thats whats working for him now its cool. I personally was an eminem fan when I was a little kid. I fucking loved him, had all his shit. Now when he puts out stuff its like ehhh.

Ahh, I have this album! Why didn't I put it on the list. My fault there, great album actually. Love it. Guillotine Part 3 is probably the best part.

In other interest, who voted for Slash?

Ah ok. I didnt mean anything by the comment man just stated I didn't know who they were. I'm gonna check them out though. Yes Recovery is nowhere near revolutionary, but it was the most popular album this year and that had immense amounts to do with adding pink, lil wayne, and rihanna to the singles he put out. Its not my favorite album from by any means, but I did still enjoy it. To each his own though, was mainly pointing out how obvious it is that hes gonna take home like every grammy this year.

I misread the thread title so my apologies didn't know it was OUR favorite album of 2010. Thats a really tough one...hmm I cant even answer that haha I heard a lot of good shit this year. Some of those in the poll would be in my list for sure though.

To enterkey, who red repped me for my "Bad Choice of Albums" - I had 15 I could pick from. I just picked what I knew had been popular & put them into the poll, if it's not to your taste, then it's not.
That's why there is an "other" option, so you can pick another one.

I just found it funny that you used "popular" albums when I hadn't even heard of half of their artists even with a diverse set of musically crazy friends. The only one that I criticized was Justin Bieber and that is because his stuff isn't music, the terrorists finally figured out how to do music warfare against us and that culminated in the birth of the Biebs. For my favorite album of the year I'd have to go with My Dinosaur Life - Motion City Soundtrack as it is one of the few new albums that I actually bothered to download and it . The album to me doesn't have a single bad song and even the songs that I feel are weaker than the rest will still eventually manage to find themselves stuck in my head. There are rarely albums that I can listen to for days on end without having to skip a single song but MDL has easily been able to do that for me.

I actually chose Avenged Sevenfold. I'm not a fan boy either so don't label me as some guy who voted for them because of their drummers death. It was just a great album with great songs. "Buried Alive" showed there ever growing direction towards Metallica and "Nightmare" was yet another hard rock smash for them. They also did things people would never expect from them like putting a gospel type singer at the beginning of "Victim" which shows how they're willing to experiment and try to push themselves so they don't get pigeonholed, plus the chord changes on that song are amazing. "Welcome to the Family" and "So Far Away" were great songs as well.

I almost went with the ever underrated Alter Bridge for the song "Words Darker Than Their Wings" alone but I feel Avenged Sevenfold made the better ALBUM.

Gotta agree there, Alter Bridge are HIGHLY underrated, Myles Kennedy is on the greatest vocalists around at this time, but you never hear about him.
I think Nightmare is a great album, so is AB3. It is hard to pick when you've got a couple you love so much.

The list looks rather disrespectful to RAP. You should have added Rock to the title.

Either way I'm going with Reflection Eternal's RPM album. I know a lot of fans of them were disappointed with this release, but I still feel it was better than any other album to drop this year in RAP. I also loved the song "Midnight Hour." It's my song of the year. It just pumps me up.

Talib Kweli is a genius.

Edit: I see you actually have B.o.B. on there, but I think that guy is a walkin' joke.

Sorry dude, being a Rock fan, this is what came into my head, but just go with Rap being "other".

I went for The XX. I think these guys are great. If you've not heard of them, go listen to them, their music is different in a good way.

Also, any adult male who takes the time to criticize Justin Bieber needs to find better things to do with his time than ride things that aren't meant to appeal to him.

I think Recovery was one of the albums of the year, for sure.
