old school cool?

hear i go again thinking to my self and just since im a big fan of old school and as roddy pipper would say old school is cool and it is but my question about that is..would it work today?
there were people like big boss man, ultimate warrior, jake the snake, beefacke, the leagion of doom or other people like repo man...the people all kind of have what i think if a cartoon gimmick or soemthing like that but i was thinking do you think that any of these types of old school gimmicks would work now days?
i dont think they would because things have to be more realistic and have some one come out like the big boss man would be kind of a joke ..what do you guys think?

If you look at some of today's characters, you will still find some cartoonish things. Festus, Hornswoggle are a couple examples. As far as past gimmicks, they would certainly need to be tweaked and made more real. I'm sure they could give us someone like Boss Man again, and I agree that the character would need to be more real. (Even though, Boss Man did spend some time as a guard.) If WWE can find use for goldust, they can do even more i think.

the key is really finding a character that stands out beyond the basic things you see..like Hornswoggle is always gonna just be a little person so he wont be taken too serious in actual competition.

in the 2000's it seems kind of hard to really put together a good cartoonish image that goes over without bee TOO corny.. i mean they all are to some degree but its hard to level it out..

as far as appeal and look goes you can almost throw Rey Mysterio into this category. his fanbase tends to be mostly children and his mask gives him the cartoon-like persona, not to mention he does so many aerial moves its like he's not a real human being anyway.

maybe the WWE is in need of a resurrection of the Gobbley Gooker
