NXT Title: Defended on PPV's?

TJWWE

Pre-Show Stalwart
so the title basically says it all. With NXT already crowned their NXT championship (No aired yet) My question is:
"Should the NXT championship be defended on WWE PPV's?

Here's my answer: YES!
It should be the defended on their PPV's as it gives the champion and challenger(s) a chance to get to themselves noticed by the crowd as the NXT arena is small and doesn't air around the world so it's kind of hard to get noticed when they can't be seen that much only on the internet and in some countries.

I think that it should always be the first or second match on the card.

Whats your theory on this?

I think it'd be better suited for the YouTube pre-show thing they do now. Even though they treat it like dirt, the United States Championship ranks higher than the NXT Championship (or at least it should), so it would make sense that it be booked on the actual pay-per-view ahead of a brand new title.

But before they start throwing these matches onto pay-per-views, they need to throw it a little attention on their weekly programming. Even if they only do short recaps of the main feud, it's better than limiting NXT to third-tier programming and then expecting a much larger audience that paid to see an event on pay-per-view connect.

The thing is, if the NXT competitors were ready to compete on PPV, they would already be on RAW or SmackDown rather than on NXT. The only people wrestling on the NXT TV Show that are capable of wrestling on PPV are the ones who are technically already on the main roster (i.e. Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel, Jinder Mahal, etc.) and thus should be above competing for the belt.

If the United States Championship isn't even defended on the main show, there's no way the NXT title should be. The WWE doesn't even reference the brand on television anymore. If WWE themselves wanted NXT to get noticed, they would actually promote the show. Before they can care about NXT, they need to care about what they have on their plates now.

Gotta introduce them onto main WWE TV first, surely. And if they are then featured on main WWE TV haven't they basically moved on and away from the NXT title?

Raw is needlessly three hours, there's no excuse for them to not have a weekly NXT showcase if they want to expose them to the masses.

I understand where you're coming from. And it's not a bad idea in that it would definitely get another very good to great match on the show when you consider it would be guys like Rollins, Steamboat, Ambrose etc involved. But I would vote no. The NXT title is like a TV title and it exists to give that show a purpose. What's a wrestling show without a prize over which to fight? All those NXT guys are unknowns to the masses and won't help sell many PPVs so what they need is to be on basic cable so that the most eyeballs can see them so they can get over and sell PPVs later. But WWE is no longer in the business of trying to get people over. As it is, WWE has so many great guys on the roster who comprise the lower card, like Cesaro, who they literally have no clue how to use. Plus, they have championships that serve no purpose whatsoever(Tag Team, US, IC).

I think they need to focus on getting their other titles on PPV first, like the IC, US and Tag Team Titles. Once they can get all of them on, then they should have it, maybe not EVERY PPV, but once every few PPVs, and when it's not have it on the pre-show

Well NXT is suppose to take the place of FCW and revamp the whole indy scene into more of a "minor league" division of a professional sport. With that being said, do they show minor league games on main network television? no, but do they mention it occasionally on people on who could be bursting onto the scenes too... if it got defended anywhere I would prefer it on the pre-show where it can be watched if people want to see it or not.

As of right now, the answer is most definitely no for reasons that've already been stated.

The NXT Championship is literally brand spankin' new. The title needs more time to grow and blossom as part of NXT itself before it goes making appearances on ppvs. Even before that, the title needs exposure on Raw and SmackDown! and it's just not quite ready for that. Personally, I'm hoping that we'll see matches & promo segments featuring NXT wrestlers, including the NXT Champion sometimes, show up regularly on Raw now that it's three hours. I think it'd be a very productive use of some of the extra time to do show off some of the hot young talent that's making a buzz in WWE Developmental right now. Once the bugs of the new three hour Raw format have been worked out, I truly hope that this comes to pass.

At the same time, howewver, I don't think WWE should go overboard with the NXT Championship when & if it makes it's appearance on WWE television. It's not supposed to be like the IC or US titles, but rather something for the wrestlers on NXT to focus on & work towards. It's a symbol that the WWE brass is impressed with the work the champion is doing and that he could be headed to the main roster in the near future. Literally, it's a developmental title for developmental wrestlers and it needs to stay that way ultimately.

Agreed, it's too new and has too little prestige to be defended on PPV's, ESPECIALLY when the U.S. title is on the Pre-Show!

I think as soon as this Saturday Morning Show/And possibly if the WWE Network ever launches they need to air NXT on TV with the belt being defended regularly! If they ever want people to care about the NXT Championship belt, especially in this day and age, they need people to see this belt being fought for EVERY week/episode of NXT!

I'd say yes it should be defended on ppvs if the NXT wrestlers are appearing on Raw and/or Smackdown, and once the title has some prestige. The only problem would be that NXT is taped weeks ahead of time. The first champion was crowned a while ago and the gold rush thing is still goin on on tv

No the NXT title shouldn't be defended on PPV's it a title for guys not yet ready for the main roster. If the title is only defended on NXT will bring interest to the show not knowing when or if the title will change hands. Give the PPV spots to the guys on the main roster not the NXT guys who are trying to earn a spot

The NXT title should NOT be defended on ppvs nor should it be defended on Raw or Smackdown. That title should be defended only on NXT and should only be held by the actual FCW guys. Meaning Tyson Kidd, Jinder Mahal, Hunico etc. should never hold it. I would maybe accept them having a match on the youtube pre-show, but that's it. There are too many titles as it is on the main shows, to the point where those titles get lost in the shuffle.

Goodness no, I hope not!!!! They have given me absolutely no reason to give a damn about that title. None. Zero. They need to worry more about the importance of the giant pennies, Intercontinental, United States, and even the butterfly before they even THINK about putting the NXT title up for grabs on a PPV. There are far too many other belts that need attention before it does, it is the lowest on the importance scale and should be treated as such. I could see it being the pre-show match at Night of Champions, but that's it.

The importance, or lack thereof, for the belt is not the only issue. The NXT title, while I argue that it shouldn't even exist, should ONLY be for guys on NXT. Once you're on the main roster, you move on to the Raw/Smackdown titles. There are plenty of guys on the roster who desperately need to get onto a PPV event match, but they would get turned down in favor of someone from NXT who isn't even on Raw yet? That would be incredibly stupid. I hope we NEVER EVER see this title defended on PPV. It just wouldn't be fair to the guys on the main roster, let alone the fact that they have plenty of other titles that need to be showcased first.

The problem with an NXT Title match on a pay per view is that neither the live audience or the fans watching at home will know who the competitors are. The current NXT is a new show that's hard to find unless you're actively looking for it, and most WWE fans will know of the brand as the hybrid reality contest/wrestling show thing it became when ECW was ended. That's not how breakout stars should be presented. It cheapens the title to throw NXT's top stars in front of the average WWE crowd that will surely boo them, lose interest or chant "We want Ryder" or whatever chant is in style at the time.

NXT is what it should be right now: The developmental territory. The championship title really only serves as a way to identify the top talent (champion and challengers) and also to add some gravity to the show, wrestling without titles can come off pointless. What the championship should represent is identifying the talent that's ready to move up to the main WWE roster. It definitely should not become a reward for those who can't cut it on TV, for example a wrestler who they don't want to move up to Raw or SD but they give him a title to see if he'll improve. That practice has been done before and it definitely cheapens the championship.
