Pre-Show Stalwart
Yes I'm aware that this past week the WWE announced the Survivor Series will be returning for its 23rd year.
With that being said.. When WWE was looking to shake up their ppv's this year, they sent out surveys/polls. I think I can almost 100% guarantee along with the majority of this board that War Games won the survey as possible ppvs to replace the under achieving ones.
I think the one thing that was hurting the possibility of a War Games match was the lack of a dominant stable which could get the viewer to believe in the pay per view to the point of a buy.
Lets be honest.. Survivor Series is one of the most interesting pay per view concepts the WWE has. So why did it lose almost a quarter of its viewers last year.. and why has it been declining a more and more every year? Yes you can argue that with trying to budget money with WWE/TNA/UFC all putting around 12 ppv's a year hurts... but who wants to watch the Survivor Series when it seems the teams have just been thrown together and forced down your throat.
Without looking it up.. Who hear could honestly name off all the participants of Team Miz/Team Morrison and Team Kofi/Team Orton last year.
With the rumors having Wade Barrett and John Cena feuding through the summer.... why not continue it all the way to Survivor Series. Maybe not Barrett/Cena specifically, but NXT vs WWE.
This all could lead to 2010 Survivor Series present WarGames! The match that made the stable look believable! The match that was designed to be the specialty match of the Four Horsemen (even though I think they ended up going 1-15 all time in War Games match-ups)
You could even have Hart continue to refuse contracts up until Survivor Series to where the stipulation is War Games for contracts!
Also another idea that the WWE can keep in mind...
Linda McMahon's election will be held on November 2nd. Survivor Series this year will be held on November 21st this year. You could even have Team WWE missing one member to the point you have John Cena announce its newest and latest member the returning Bryan Danielson (Keep having Barrett and Otunga questioning Danielsons character through out the summer) This of course could only happen if true Danielson will be invited back sometime later this year.
But the Only way this could work is if the WWE continues to build the NXT stars and push them. They need to make it look believable that guys like Wade Barrett belong in the ring with John Cena. Sometimes the WWE fails to make guys look deserving (ala it taking 4 of Sheamus' finishers to put down HHH who was already hit with a steel pipe)
So couple quick questions.
1) Do you think War Games introduction could get more buyers?
My answer- Yes, I believe it they go back to the old style, its the best match in wrestling.
2) What's your favorite War Games Match of all time?
My Answer- 1992: Stings Squadron (Sting, Dragon, Nikita, Dustin Rhodes, and Barry Windham vs The Dangerous Alliance (Ravishing Rick Rude, Stunning Steve Austin, The Enforcer Arn Anderson, Beautiful Bobby Eaton, and the Cruncher Larry Zbyszko.
I think almost every guy in that match bled, and the match came off so real. You had the dominant stable in Paul E. Dangerously's Dangerous Alliance who constantly feuded with all the top baby faces week in and week out. You had Jim Ross on commentary telling the fans the history of War Games and breaking down the match perfectly.
