The Cerebral Assassin
A lot of people, some WZ reporters included, feel that it'll probably be Rock/Cena or maybe even Rock/Punk for the championship at Wrestlemania. But I'm not so sure. Would it really be a good idea to repeat last year's main event again this year and do Rock/Cena again? Well, it probably wouldn't turn out badly, but what else could the two do this time around to make it any more special? As for Rock/Punk... I'm sorry, but if Cena couldn't take down Rock, I'd have a hard time believing Punk could, who is astoundingly outsized by the Rock. Which makes me wonder, then, who would really be the Rock's best opponent for Wrestlemania?
It really only leaves a few possible names: Triple H, Undertaker, or Brock Lesnar.
Triple H, who is soon to be picked apart by Lesnar, may not have the steam going into Wrestlemania to take on Rock. He'll probably have a less-important 'Mania match. Undertaker? Well, you know he's going over, so why waste the Rock for that match? Feed him someone else. Ryback, Triple H again, I don't care, we all know who's gonna win.
So, really, this leaves only one HIGH-PROFILE, truly unpredictable, exciting matchup left for the Rock that still has a sense of freshness to it- Brock Lesnar. Sure, they wrestled once at Summerslam in '02 for the title, but that was a decade ago. If they feuded, it'd feel fresh. It'd be exciting. It'd be huge. Can you imagine the promos between Rock & Heyman/Lesnar? If the Rock does win the title at R.R. (which he should), it'd be great for the WWE (and something quite different) to see Lesnar vs. Rock for the title. I can't think of a bigger possible match for this upcoming Mania that should be the main event. And here's the best part: who would win? Will Rock defend his title and keep his title run going? Or will Lesnar finally get the title back and restart his reign of dominance? There'd be no way to tell, as both possibilities would be on the table.
Lastly, going into Summerslam, they already have the situation set up to go this route for Wrestlemania. Have Lesnar begin his tear at Summerslam by going through HHH, and then keep him winning all the way to Wrestlemania. Feed him a few names along the way. Have the Rock win the title at R.R. and have him defend it a few times in convincing fashion. Then you're perfectly set up to have two top names (that are recognizable outside of wrestling, probably the most recognizable) contest for the title at the biggest show of the year. The media would be all over it. They would be cashing in big-time on the huge contracts that they must've given Rock & Brock, and they'd get a huge return. Book it.
