No One's Talking About Rock/Brock For Wrestlemania

A lot of people, some WZ reporters included, feel that it'll probably be Rock/Cena or maybe even Rock/Punk for the championship at Wrestlemania. But I'm not so sure. Would it really be a good idea to repeat last year's main event again this year and do Rock/Cena again? Well, it probably wouldn't turn out badly, but what else could the two do this time around to make it any more special? As for Rock/Punk... I'm sorry, but if Cena couldn't take down Rock, I'd have a hard time believing Punk could, who is astoundingly outsized by the Rock. Which makes me wonder, then, who would really be the Rock's best opponent for Wrestlemania?

It really only leaves a few possible names: Triple H, Undertaker, or Brock Lesnar.

Triple H, who is soon to be picked apart by Lesnar, may not have the steam going into Wrestlemania to take on Rock. He'll probably have a less-important 'Mania match. Undertaker? Well, you know he's going over, so why waste the Rock for that match? Feed him someone else. Ryback, Triple H again, I don't care, we all know who's gonna win.

So, really, this leaves only one HIGH-PROFILE, truly unpredictable, exciting matchup left for the Rock that still has a sense of freshness to it- Brock Lesnar. Sure, they wrestled once at Summerslam in '02 for the title, but that was a decade ago. If they feuded, it'd feel fresh. It'd be exciting. It'd be huge. Can you imagine the promos between Rock & Heyman/Lesnar? If the Rock does win the title at R.R. (which he should), it'd be great for the WWE (and something quite different) to see Lesnar vs. Rock for the title. I can't think of a bigger possible match for this upcoming Mania that should be the main event. And here's the best part: who would win? Will Rock defend his title and keep his title run going? Or will Lesnar finally get the title back and restart his reign of dominance? There'd be no way to tell, as both possibilities would be on the table.

Lastly, going into Summerslam, they already have the situation set up to go this route for Wrestlemania. Have Lesnar begin his tear at Summerslam by going through HHH, and then keep him winning all the way to Wrestlemania. Feed him a few names along the way. Have the Rock win the title at R.R. and have him defend it a few times in convincing fashion. Then you're perfectly set up to have two top names (that are recognizable outside of wrestling, probably the most recognizable) contest for the title at the biggest show of the year. The media would be all over it. They would be cashing in big-time on the huge contracts that they must've given Rock & Brock, and they'd get a huge return. Book it.

Because it doesn't work on several levels.

1. Most internet fans believe big name stars should only come back to put over current/rising guys. That's really stupid, but 95% of them feel that way. To me, that's not a valid reason to skip Rock vs. Brock II, but the smarks can have this one.

2. Neither one of them can donate much time to television. Undertaker's Streak is a different story, it writes itself. Rock vs. Brock needs a story, and I doubt either man will be around enough to make it happen. The match sells itself, though, so that's something to consider.

3. Who benefits? I never care about one guy putting over another, but it's a wash. Rock vs. Cena still has a ton of steam, as does Brock vs. Taker for the Streak.

4. There are better alternatives, like the ones I just talked about.

Who knows. Rock vs. Brock screams cash, but it's WrestleMania. Technically, HBK vs. Cena was a bigger draw than Cena vs. Rock, so nothing is certain. Personally, I have no interest in Rock vs. Brock. None whatsoever.

I don't see that much appeal in Brock/Taker. Other than that UFC event confrontation, what other history do the two guys have?

In this day and age Brock should be able to manhandle Taker, yet there is no bone in my body that thinks Vince, HHH or Taker would allow Lesnar to end the streak. I would love to see Brock/Taker but not with the Streak involved. For the Streak I'd much rather still see Cena, Punk, Sting :), or even Sheamus or Barrett. At least that way I could see Taker straight up lose or at least a run-in cheap loss.

For that reason I like the idea of Rock/Brock. I don't know if the feud would be that great or even the match but I sure as hell would have no clue who was going to win (unless for some reason one of the two signs a full time contract).

You want Taker to lose? George... to think I cared for you so much prior to this thread.... hmm.

What I want is for there to be doubt that UT will win. When I hear comments like the following:

You thought his last two opponents stood a chance? Interesting.

...it makes me sad. Sure each match is great but part of the thrill of the match is not knowing who is going to win. I can't fathom Lesnar getting the honor of winning. Cena, heel Punk, Sting maybe. Lesnar no way.

Btw, I hope my thoughts don't take me off your X-Mas card list.

Rock is likely going to be involved in a feud over the WWE title at WM, either defending or challenging for it. Having him facing Brock at WM with the title on the line would be stupid since neither will be around the next night. I'd rather see him face Taker, since the two have a bit of a history feuding several times during Brock's previous 2 yr. run in WWE 10 yrs. ago. Their matches rarely failed to deliver, & with WM being Brocks last night in his current deal with WWE, I imagine they want to stick him in there with a opponent that won't let him get away with the shit he pulled at WM25 with Goldberg.

I'd rather watch Punk vs Rock.

As for Rock vs Brock...There first encounter wasn't all that good to me. I don't want to see Brock face 'Taker either. Brock should massacre the UT, in this day and age.

If anything, besides wanting to see Punk vs Rock, I'd be happy to see Undertaker vs Rock. I am not sure if these two have clashed 1 on 1 at WM before or not. I am to lazy to check.

But for me, it would either be Punk vs Rock or Rock vs Undertaker. I never cared for Lesnar.

two part timers should not and never be the wrestlemania main event. Like it or not, Cena or Punk will be in the main event next WM against a big name part timer such as Taker, Brock, or Rock.
