Those of you who read Bloody Disgusting regularly know that the site wouldn't exist if it weren't for HBO's "Tales From the Crypt," the EC comics adaptation that ran from 1989-1996.

Fifteen years after horror anthology "Tales from the Crypt" ended its 7-year-run on HBO, a new TV series based on the popular and controversial 1950s EC Comics anthology books is in the works with Gil Adler, producer on the HBO Crypt series, and Andrew Cosby co-creator of Syfy hit Eureka and co-founder of comic book publisher BOOM! Studios, reports Deadline.

The new hourlong series will neither be anthological nor related to the HBO show. "It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context," Cosby said. "It's all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences."

A detailed pitch and a bible for the new Crypt series have been completed, with producers expected to take the project out shortly. It will be pitched to broadcast networks as part of the current development cycle as well as to cable outlets.

Tales From The Crypt was a fun show. This show provided a nice mix of comedy and horror, and The Crypt keeper's introductions to each episode were hilarious. I never got I chance to see this show during it's original run, but I have seen my fair share of episodes over the years, and I loved Bordello Of Blood, because it was a very entertaining horror/comedy film.

I hope this show can return to HBO, and I wouldn't mind a Showtime debut, because this show doesn't need any restrictions. I wouldn't want to see Tales From The Crypt return as this watered down version on the major mainstream TV networks. Although, this might work on AMC, because The Walking Dead did feature some pretty intense gore and violence, and the Chiller channel might be a good choice. This channel is devoted to all things horror, and they could use a nice spark, because those shitty low budget independent horror films they show are dreadful, and they can be painful to watch.

What are your thoughts? Would you want to see Tales From The Crypt return?
