My Problem With Current VG's

Leafy

Getting Noticed By Management
Currently I have seen the commercials and read the reviews for games I want to buy. But the same feature keeps driving me away from great games.

No offline multiplayer.

I live in a place where I can't get high speed internet. I like to play with my friends when they come over with games like Halo and MW2. But as I was researching Battlefield: Bad Company 2 I came across that it only had online multiplayer. I was ready to go to Target and give them my money until that one feature ruined the game for me. Do the developers realize not everyone is able to play online?

What happened to playing with friends in the same house? Nah, we like sitting in our separate houses talking over a headset. That sounds way more fun.

Seriously, this feature is making games that I can play to it's capacity a lot harder to find. Why are developers going this direction? It really bothers me.

If you look at it, Goldeneye is still regarded as one of the best games ever (won our tourney). That was one of the first games I remember inviting mates round to play where it would just be chaos, yet fun.

That's why the Wii has done so well....agree or not about their game quality but with PS3/360 concentrating on online play and Wii concentrating on bringing mates/families together AND the Wii outselling them both. Makes me realise how they have missed the simple fact on that one...Online multiplayer is fun, but sitting with my mates or listening to a whiny 14 year old, foul mouthed American? Yeah...exactly.

I'm with you. Hell, the internet I use to post here is "borrowed" from my neighbors. Noadays the main platforms of gaming only focus on MMO FPS games. Rather than going out there and making something new and groundbreaking, they rip off someone's else's idea and label it there's. Without even masking it. It's unfortunate because us "hardcore gamers" are left to find what we can find. And it ain't much. I hate MMO's. Chatting with people you don't and acting like getting videogame points or achievement is a mayor accomplishment is not how I role. I enjoy single player games with deep story and great gameplay. If I wanna play with friends, I get my ass off my couch and go visit them. If not I call them over and turn on the grill. To me, playing online, alone, by yourself, with no one looking, is how Good Ol' J.R. would say: "Phoning it in".

What's the enjoyment of playing with other people if there's no one around to enjoy it with?

I never was a fan of online multiplayer gaming. I'm an oldschool gamer and some of the best memories of my life came from having friends over for the whole weekend to play games like Goldeneye, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros. Everybody in the same room together. Some people love online multiplayer and prefer to chat on the headset rather than play the old fashioned way. I wish that games could try to please both groups of people. The online trend will continue until the companies quit making money off of it.... but there should be options for those who either don't wish to play online or just plain can't. Regular multiplayer matches are still fun, that has not changed. I pretty much agree with what Lee said, I'd rather play for hours with my close friends in the same room, instead of talking on the headset to some arrogant little jerk who has no life. I don't know why developers are going this direction because they would make more money if they tried to please both oldschool fans and new fans by giving more options. I tend to ignore most new games anyway. FF13 and Mario Galaxy 2 are the only new games coming out anytime soon that I'm remotely interested in.

Will I share with you the most fun game I have probably ever played? Since this is a non-spam thread, I think I had better...

Call Of Duty 2. Let me take you back multiple years to when Call Of Duty 2 was first released. It was one of the first games that I ever owned for the 360 and still remains probably my most played game ever. You see, the great thing about Call Of Duty 2 was that the offline multiplayer was amazing. Not by today's standards but back then, it was pretty incredible. For a full year, me and my friends would huddle round in a conservatory of my friends house. We would bring the snacks, the drinks and out own controllers and we would just go to town on that game. We would play from around 5:30 in the afternoon to around 10 or 11 and then do it all again the next night. It was one of the best gaming experiences of my life and was fantastic at bringing us all together.

Offline multiplayer is probably not as big a deal as it was back then. People are getting more and more involved with online multiplayer and don't really care about offline. That is likely because they would much rather talk to their friends from the comfort of their own house rather than go and actually meet them. However, I agree. The offline multiplayer of the latest Call Of Duty games doesn't have the same charm about it. It is fine but I have never once sat down to just play that. My friends and I don't huddle round in a conservatory to play it and it seems to be a lost tradition in the gaming world. Shame really.
