The 1-2-3 Killam
Mid-Card Championship Winner
As some of you may know, my grandpa died this summer. He was probably the relative I was close to, so it's been an interesting couple of months, having already been dealing with some pretty frustrating depression, and slight bi-polar disorder. But today was kind of a cool day. I came home to Chicago last week, and today was the first day my whole family had been together since the funeral. We were given this as a gift, which is now hung in my grandmother's living room.
They said he helped 52 people by donating his body. Two different people now have his eyes, and can see again. A few kids had prosthesis made from bones, and at least five people were helped with skin grafts. He was a really cool person in life, and was exactly the kind of person that would only want to keep helping people in death. So a pretty big honor for all of us, just having known him. He was a limousine driver for most of my life, and before that he was an insurance salesman. But the kind that would always get in trouble for helping people find loopholes when they couldn't pay their bills on time. And because he was a tenured limo driver out of Chicago for so long, he met some of the coolest people. Several of the Chicago Bulls championship teams, including Michael Jordan. The owners of the Cubs, Blackhawks and White Sox. Many, many successful business people. Several politicians. And during his down time between shuttles, he'd just play harmonica and write hymns all day. That's why I have a harmonica with the Chicago stars tattooed on my left shoulder.
So I guess, this is just sort of a...Merry Christmas, remembering my grandfather, and reporting that I actually had a pretty good day today. Things felt "clear" today, if that makes any sense, and it's been awhile since I could have said that.
Merry Christmas everybody!
