My Benoit Rehab

I was going to write a column regarding Benoit on the anniversary of his death but for a reasons I didn't.

1. I was too lazy.
2. I couldn't remember exactly when it was.
3. I got the WWE Ladder Match DVD.

"You got a new DVD Luther? That's no excuse!"

Well, it is really, I was originally just going to come on here and write my thoughts on last year's events, but watching that DVD gave me a sort of better idea to write about.

As soon as the Benoit tragedy happened I was in shock, I remember being on here when the story broke that the Benoit family had died. I didn't have a clue what was going on, as this was the time of the whole McMahon being dead storyline. I knew this wasn't a storyline, though, I didn't have a clue it would be murder either. When I woke up the next day I logged on here and found out what really happened, I was a fan of at the time and him being a murderer just seemed incomprehensible. I took to it in a bad way, I became to hate Benoit, I couldn't stand to look at him, I fast forwarded when he showed up on DVDs, I even took his loading screen off SmackDown vs RAW. In my opinion it was impossible to defend him, he'd took innocent people's lives.

Many people on here said that we should remember Chris for what he did in the ring, not the last few days of his life. I still don't buy that. Yes. He was a great in ring performer. Yes. He was a hero to many people, but still, he was a murderer, simply ignoring this fact and celebrating his life makes the death of a woman and child look trivial.

At that point I agreed with the WWE when many didn't. I couldn't stand to look at Benoit, never mind forgive him. As I said then, he should have been totally erased from WWE's history books, what he did was totally inexcusable.

That's where my "column" of sorts was going to end. If it wasn't for the Ladder Match DVD. I considered skipping the matches that included Benoit, but due to the good reports I'd heard about them, and my desire to finally watch TLC III, I decided to give them a go.

I was enthralled, for the duration of those matches I completely forgot about the events of that tragic weekend last June. Instead I was absorbed within the atmosphere, at one point I was even willing Benoit on in TLC III, this being a guy I couldn't even look at a year ago. This was just great entertainment, that fans are now being deprived of.

Benoit's actions were unforgivable, in my opinion, no one should hold him in high regard after what he did. The WWE shouldn't make a big thing out of him, he shouldn't go in the hall of fame, he shouldn't be featured heavily in programming or the WWE's website, but the WWE can't pretend he didn't exist, all they're doing is depriving their fans of great entertainment.
