MVP Turns... on EY; Will Face Him for WHC at Slammiversary

It's Damn Real!

The undisputed, undefeated TNA &
So long baby face status.

It's official — MVP just turned on EY tonight, attacking him at the end of IMPACT as he was "announcing" the #1 contender for the TNA World Heavyweight championship, and officially booked himself for Slammiversary in the process.

I'll be honest — I thought they'd run him as a face a lot longer than this, as the whole warring storyline to get him into power in the first place only recently ended, but what's done is done, and the crowd sure turned on MVP for doing it.

As an aside, it really makes you think if TNA is re-thinking this whole EY as WHC thing. From what I've seen, the ratings sure haven't been too kind, so maybe this is their way of trying to "shock" it off his shoulder?

Isn't the Sacrifice PPV already over? Do you mean Slammiversary?
This should be interesting; most of the top card are busy with their own feuds, and the ones that aren't, wouldn't be the best option for the second-largest PPV of the year. MVP is the best candidate, and he is always best as a heel.

I was hoping TNA was getting away from the whole Heel Authority Figure that they've been running for a few years now. Looks like another round of it. I like MVP, but what does he bring as World Champ? EY being this fighting champ was getting interesting. When was the last time any promotion did that?

On a side note, I find it funny how everyone is crapping on EY having the belt, and defending it 3 times already, while that bearded midget over at the E is doing Friday The 13th angles with Kane. Just saying....

Huh. While I suspected that an MVP heel turn would eventually happen, I sure as hell didn't expect it to happen so soon after he took over wrestling operations. And to echo what Weems2k just said, I was hoping that TNA would distance itself from having yet another heel authority but here we are. I'll look forward to next week to see how this further plays out but at the moment, I doubt he'll win the title and I honestly have no interest in seeing MVP as the champion. At the very least, I've always preferred MVP as a heel.

Hey, does this mean that Roode is officially a face now? Because that'd be sweet.

If they do take the title off EY, they'll just be shooting themselves in the foot. It took Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Jeff Hardy and a 5 Star match between AJ Styles and Kurt Angle to make a significant move in the ratings and that was 4 years ago. TNA has no reason to believe Eric Young will magically fix things within 6 weeks just because he's beating everyone in sight. It's doing a good job of building him up though. And that's something you're supposed to keep going following up on. Not ending it and moving on to the next patch job.

If they decide to take the title from Eric, it should be to set up him regaining it. Maybe Bound For Glory. But otherwise, just keep working with you have.

Oh boy, here we go again.

Two things will happen. One, EY beats MVP and they go on a good guy vs authority war. We've never seen THAT before.

Or two, MVP beats EY and then we have a heel authority figure having the championship, abusing his power with good guys trying to dethrone him and eventually doing so. Bo-ring.

I don't like this move. I think MVP will make for a fantastic heel, but it's too soon and it's not the right moment. C'mon man, you kicked Dixie out less than a couple of months ago and now we get another asshole boss? This has been going on since 2009. Does TNA realize that? That's four or five years of the same storyline with a different person playing the main role.

Can we get rid of GMs, Presidents, CEOs and Owners for a year or something? Can we detox? Or can we keep one nice, charismatic GM like MVP and keep him good so the focus can be on everything else that's going on?

I was far more interested in seeing EY fight a bunch of dudes than this "he's drunk with power" storyline.

And who takes his place when he turns face? Dixie again? How many times is TNA's management gonna switch power. Jeez ...

Way too early for this. MVP was one of the more charismatic baby face personas on the show. I would have held off pulling the trigger on this so soon because I can't see any great payoff in turning MVP this soon. A heel authority figure is probably the last thing I wanted to see right now and honestly I'm sad this has become such a crutch for Tna.

Didn't watch iMPACT (Draft and Heat game) but lol I guess I didn't miss anything special. Usual shenanigans.

MVP is a good heel.

But I don't see the logic in throwing him into the heel authority figure run we just had with Dixie (and granted, I didn't watch Thursday, but isn't that STILL kind of going on with her and Bully Ray?). I thought the general consensus was that people were tired of these types of angles?

This couldn't possibly be setting up for the bearded underdog EY to spend all summer facing a heel authority . . . couple?

I'm a bit disappointed by it. TNA had a chance to get away from the whole heel boss thing but have went back to it again.

I can see MVP winning the title at Slammiversary, maybe setting up for EY to win the BFG Series & re-claim the title at BFG.

The big question on my mind is where Dixie fits into all of this. With MVP going heel, does that mean that he's going to welcome Dixie back into the fold? If so, why would she be "okay" (kayfabe-wise) with being MVP's underling (for lack of a better term)? MVP going heel leaves too many unanswered questions about that, but maybe it will all be addressed in the coming weeks...at least I hope so.

At least the WHC scene will seem somewhat fresh going forward, with a new contender to the title, but it all seems rushed. Then again, that seems to be TNA's MO lately.

Hogan could not even do the 'good GM role'. MVP was getting a bit stale. It just does not work unless you are really in charge of wrestling operations. (with the internet) I don't watch WWE, but if it is in his history to be a heel, then makes since.
I did not like MVP's promos at first, but he is growing on me. He is pretty good in the ring for his size. It looks good to me at this point.
