MVP and "The Board"?

It's Damn Real!

The undisputed, undefeated TNA &
A group of like-minded, wealthy “investors” have pooled their money together with MVP. So says MVP, that is. And apparently with the blessing of “The Board”, MVP is now empowered to schedule matches on IMPACT, and seems to have more power than Dixie herself, promising a lot of change coming to the company "real soon".

Question is — who is “The Board”? What’s the payoff here? A handful of potential reveals down the line, or just story line filler to justify his new position of “owner”?

And what kind of change are we talking about? The drastic early Bischoff and Hogan kind, or something again, more in line with the story he's playing out on screen? Just a matter of new blood and talent?

I'm curious about this "board" myself. I can't really put my finger on who it could be, though Bischoff comes to mind I won't say he's a part of this. Funny thing is I wonder if MVP is gonna be a regular in-ring performer in this role. He still looks in decent shape and isn't too old. But back on topic. Adding more mystery could prove benefitial, and this could open the door for Jeff Jarrett to come back (if he wanted to, that is). I thought about Jim Cornette also, but he's not necessarily known for being a forward thinker, so I'll rule him out. Perhaps this should simmer a little while so the right people could be selected for the board.

I would say it's 50/50 on whether or not TNA knows who the board is yet. That is not a slight on TNA, just wrestling in general is always planting the seeds to stories without knowing how its really going to develop until it starts playing out. I'm sure they have a general idea where they want to go with this storyline, but I would also bet that the idea changes from week to week. On the other hand, this storyline appears to be the biggest storyline for the foreseeable future, so it's probably more like 80/20.

I doubt there is intended to be a reveal of any type of "board". I think MVP is being set-up to be the sole face of opposition to Dixie. His role is as the voice of the fan, the babyface authority figure that was going to be needed to combat the power-hungry character that Dixie has morphed into. Without some check and balance on Dixie there wasn't a logical way to book themselves out of heel dominance.

I think all of the talk of a "board" and a group of backing investors were just thrown in as a way to try to make MVP's financial position and sudden power seem more believable. But I don't think we are wise to expect any additional reveals above and beyond MVP.

..Jeff Jarrett. it's all work!

I noticed he said board and people putting their money with him (MVP). he wouldn't say that on TV just for nothing, right?
MVP said he made some good investments, but still IF there are more people, do they have to be known as people with a lot of money?

or could the board just be those at Spike? didn't TNA do something like that before when Sting was the GM and he had control from those at Spike, or something like that.

This "board" does not exist as an actual idea yet, rather, as a story concept. TNA's been doing this for years. It's not a good or bad thing in and of itself; you write a story which can be taken one of several directions depending on the circumstances. TNA's issue is that they often don't provide the payoff that people expect when you start the "mystery person" storyline.

Later down the line, if TNA hooks a large fish, they can bring them in as a "board member". If nothing happens in that direction, "the board" can serve as some off-screen authority presence that never has to be explored in any detail, they just are. If the story doesn't work out, you can just walk away from it.

I just hope TNA doesn't spend three months revealing mystery board members. We need that.

I would like to see TNA use MVP as a way to bring in new talent. Obviously he's not really responsible for signing new contracts, but it would get him over as a babyface part-owner, part-wrestler if he was to bring in some new blood.

They've already done that with The Wolves. I think there's more money right now for contracts, because AJ, Sting, Hogan, Bischoff, Jarrett and a couple others are out the door.

I don't think there will be a physical incarnation of the group of investors that pooled their money together. Maybe in the future, if they need to lengthen the angle, but I believe that was just a simple storyline element to make his position make a bit more sense. I'm assuming this will lead to some kind of Dixie/MVP power struggle, and HOPEFULLY a way to write Dixie off television.

After that, I pray TNA get can out of the faction wars business, instill MVP as the general manager or what have you, and move on with telling simple stories with the whole roster.

As for "the board", every large company has a board of directors. I don't know that TNA actually has one, and if they did it would give a damn about the creative happenings of Impact, but that's neither here nor there. WWE makes decisions from "the board" all the time. Remember Triple H and Vince trading power over the last few years? Johnny Ace being a giant tool....of the board? I think it's just a general symbol that MVP invested a lot of money in the company, and was given permission from the powers that be to do whatever he wants. It actually makes sense. Dixie may be the President, but even Presidents some times have to answer to the board of directors, as no individual person can control every aspect of everything in a company.
