"Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen has arrived in NXT!

I've never seen one match or promo of this guy.

Then you probably should just stop talking

He has a horrible look. He is very fat (which is also a huge health risk). I hope this is not a Big Daddy V situation where he keeps getting fatter and fatter. Everyone can talk about how we need more variety in terms of body type. But with everything we know today about the health risks of being fat, it's a turnoff to me.

And you went full ******.

I know nothing about this man, but here's my opinion...

 oh you guys. lol.

Like I alluded to before, I can't get excited over any of the recent signings. Great talents, but it's a crapshoot as to how WWE will use them on the big stage.

When should we start seeing KENTA/Devitt/Steen debut

If they all debut around the same time, the show should be entertaining.

Never saw any of their prior work but everyone talks about them like theyre the shit so they must be good

It took Sami Zayn about five weeks to go from signing to wrestling dark matches, but it took him about four months to start appearing on the show.
To further drive home the fact that there really is no telling...

It took Kalisto eight months from his first NXT live event match until he had his NXT TV debut.

And Solomon Crowe wrestled his first NXT live event in August of LAST YEAR, and here we are a year later and he still hasn't been featured on the television program.

So a lot depends on if they have a plan for how to use them I guess, and I'd also guess that is combined with how comfortable they look at the training center working the style that the WWE wants to see from them.

In contrast, Cesaro signed with WWE in September 2011, made his debut that month, made his debut on then FCW the following month and was on WWE TV by next April. It really depends on the person, for example, I wouldn't be surprised if it took Kevin Steen awhile to debut on NXT. Why? Because he's going to have to develop an almost completely new move-set. If it's as Meltzer says and that they view these signings as special and something to capitalize on then he may keep the Package Piledriver (it's not dangerous anyway), but the Powerbomb on the apron is surely gone, Steenalizer is gone, F-Cinq is gone, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even let him do the pop-up Powerbonb. They may take away the Sharpshooter too considering it's more a Tyson Kidd thing in WWE.

That was the same with Generico/Zayn too. He couldn't use a lot of his Generico move-set, he also had to develop a look and a certain character. Again, the entire thing with Steen/Kenta/Devitt will be, how many free passes will they get in development to continue being themselves. They're not just another three guys that have signed with WWE, they're viewed as big signings for the future, they're unique to everyone else in development.

While the Big Daddy V comparisons were way off, they'll probably want him to improve his physique. If so, that could keep him in Florida for a while as well.

While he could and probably will lose some more weight, I don't think he'll be much smaller. One of the positives of Steen is he's a guy who despite his size and some extremely athletic things you wouldn't see coming, akin to Vader, just a bit smaller in height and overall size, but you get the point.

Hero was a weird in between though. He wasn't fat, but he wasn't really in shape either. Kind of like how Bo is, but a bit flabbier.

Hero was skinny fat, and we know how much Triple H hates skinny fat. He's just plain fat, now. I saw a picture of him the other day, and dude is either bulking up or letting go. Like I've said, they'll "probably" tell Steen to tone up. Maybe they won't. Frankly, in light of Hero, it seems like a good test to see how much a guy really wants to make it.

From what I've read, Steen has already worked on getting in better shape since he's had knee issues in the past. With the Performance Center, he should be able to easily get into the best shape of his life.

Bray Wyatt is the same build of Kevin Steen. Bray's on TV and I'd say when War of the Worlds happened Steen was the same size, hes put some weight back on since then but that could be on someones advise, IDK, but the difference is Chris Hero is a tall, lanky dude who has problems with his weight. Steen is as mentioned, more of a Bray Wyatt, his build is natural. Hero's is due to his own laziness.

You're crazy if you think the powers that be never told Bray Wyatt to firm up. He sure ain't wearing tights anymore. No one here can say for sure what will or won't happen with him, but this is WWE we're talking about. Steen isn't tall enough to be a mastodon, so he'll probably be told to lift.

Oh no, remember Bray got pulled from TV to trim down, but Kevin Steen isn't much bigger than Bray Wyatt, so right now Steen's size isn't a massive issue. He used to be much bigger and has even lost 18 pounds in recent months.

Also, from the Observer:

There's a lot of excitement within WWE around Kevin Steen's signing in particular, over Kenta and Fergal Devitt. Steen's talking ability is what most are impressed with, while he doesn't look the part they know that his speaking ability alone is a big asset especially after the loss of CM Punk who like Steen is a natural trash talker. Devitt was known for being a great heel in NJPW but more-so off his actions and less for his words. English speaking performers generally don't get a lot of microphone time in NJPW and if they do they're usually asked to dumb down their words for the audience. Devitt's promos usually consisted of swearing and insults which WWE would never allow him to use. Kenta has some English but not enough to start cutting promos just yet, he however is committed to learning and will be taking English classes with Funaki while in developmental. Steen has a lot of backers behind-the-scenes, not only William Regal but also Dusty Rhodes who was very impressed with Steen during his try out. As I mentioned in April when Steen attended the try out camp, it was his first ever time working with the WWE and for him to get signed off of it is an example of how impressed officials must have been. This isn't like the CM Punk signing in 2005 where they saw he'd created buzz in ROH and just signed him to sign him, WWE officials know Steen can bring something to the table and that is why they've promoted his signing like this. They also know he has a good fan base built and that hes done a good job of branding his "Fight Steen Fight" slogan, which originally started and recently returned to Kill Steen Kill. Steen is a smart guy who knows how to work fans and build buzz, WWE know all of this.

Exactly. For all we know Steen is going to debut as Shockmaster 2.0. Then how excited will everyone be? Get him on my WWE screen and I'll happily see what's so "great" about the guy.

Am I naive to think that if Kevin Steen is as good as Dragon Saga and numerous other guys think, and if his move set and agility are great despite his girth, that he can be a success in WWE exactly as he looks right now? There are lots of guys these days who are not exactly chiseled in granite, current guys and others. Bray Wyatt, as discussed above, is hardly the prototypical WWE look. Umaga wasn't exactly skinny, nor was Yokozuna if you go back a little farther (albeit a different era). Matt Hardy enjoyed some success in WWE, and he's been known to eat a cheeseburger or two.

There was a day that you had to be built like a brick shithouse to have success in WWE. Nowadays there are plenty of "smaller" guys doing quite well, and other more rotund guys who have been successful as well. Don't get me wrong, they may want him to tone up a little, if for no other reason that to show his commitment. But I'm not so sure that Steen can't do just fine exactly as he is. Maybe not the pinnacle of the company, but that may not be destined to happen anyway. But I think he should be just fine.

I don't think the "prototypical look" has been required for over thirty years.

WWE has done brilliantly, eventually, with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. Sami Zayn has been their best wrestler since they signed him. Cesaro - they were doing well with him and then fumbled badly. They dropped the ball with Kaval but something could have come out of it if he'd had any patience. One assumes Kassius Ohno would have stuck around if he'd shown a commitment to keeping in shape.

I'd say there's a much bigger precedent for "indie guys" doing well, even if it takes a while, than there is for them being wasted.

Edit: I forgot Rollins and Ambrose but they only support my point, don't they?

We might have to start accepting that, unless they've only just begun wrestling, most of the stars of tomorrow are going to be "indie guys."

Steen has trimmed a bit & the performance center will help achieve whatever his goal is, but its not like they expect him to look like Lex Luger or anything.

If Bull Dempsey gets to be on TV, then Steen will have no problem. Kevin is waaay better than Bull is in the ring.

Could start a new thread for this, but I guess it kinda can go here...

If they told Hero to work on his look, they're most likely going to tell Steen the same. Hopefully Steen actually does it.

The thing about Hero (and, let's be honest, this applies to CM Punk) is that he was a slightly built guy who had gotten a little soft around the edges. While Steen certainly isn't Vader, he's close enough. He'll never look like John Cena. Some of his older pictures show what is probably his best shape ever, but don't count on him ever looking like that again.
