Most Popular Mask: Sting vs Rey Mysterio

First off, let me start by saying, I have no idea were to post this thread, so I put it here..

Now we know these two sell a hell of a lot of merchandise for both WWE and TNA...and when it was active WCW...but the question is, who would you say makes more sales??

I think it's Sting's mask, although its paint, they sell it as a mask to wrestling fans...when you see it you recognise it is Stings...in the 90's they sold like mad...and still to this day, you get fans in a WWE arena with Sting masks...
However that being said, i would have to say Rey Mysterios mask is more popular with the kids...

What do you people think??

You make a good point about the Sting mask and the Rey mask as well, but I think the Rey mask sells better with everyone. The difference between the two in sales is:

1) Rey's mask comes in over 100 assortments and are considered collector's items after a certain year and as they become more rare. Also, kids and adults alike to get touched by Rey Mysterio on the head.

2) Sting's mask comes in only one mask color at the time, two in WCW, and once you have one of the two, you're most likely done.

That right there could be all there is to it, but I feel there's also more. Another reason is, to me at least, dads might want to get a very cool Rey Mysterio Father/Son moment with their kids. Just my opinion there.

Also, very little kids also know who Sting really is, unless they get bored and happen to turn it on Spike TV, so mostly I agree with you, but there are Adult Ignorant Wrestling Fans out there who probably don't know Sting's still alive, and buy the Rey masks because they have a cool design. That sums up why Rey's mask sells more.

Depends how you define popular, really. If you've ever been to a WWE house show (it doesn't even have to be Smackdown) there are an unholy amount of children wearing Rey Mysterio masks. He is hugely popular with the kids. And I can't even begin to imagine how much money WWE makes from the sale of the masks.

However, on the flipside, you've got Sting's facepaint. Instantly recognisable. Hell I don't even watch TNA, but if I saw someone with their facepainted like him then I would immediately think of Sting. Where as, it could be argued that Rey's mask is fairly similar to other Mexican luchador wrestlers.

I'm gonna go with Rey's mask. Simply for the reason that Rey is the mask. Sting has the whole mystique surrounding him, including his Gothic attire. For Sting, the facepaint is just an addition. Rey is so closely linked to the mask that seeing him without it is just bizzare. There are no matches where Sting wagers showing his face, but there are many times when Rey has done that.
