Most memorable guitar riff.

Hyorinmaru

Sit Upon The Frozen Heavens
What I mean by most memorable is one that if you had someone play just the gutar part of a song you could automatically tell them what song they're playing.

More than a Feeling by Boston.

When I hear this song on my iPOD i know what it is even before the lyrics start. I mean come on listen to this song just once and then hear it on the radio or whatever and tell me you don't know right away what's playing. Not only is this the most memorable for me it's also one of my favorites.

I would have to say, Welcome to The Jungle by GNR.
Everybody knows that when you hear the guitar riff begin to echo, all hell will break loose
weather your at a concert or if your at a hockey game, things will get wild. Not to mention it's a great pump up song for whatever sport.

"Play Freebird!!!" Is probably the most asked for (and often heckled) song an audience member could scream to a live band. Goes to show the endurance of such a beautiful peice of music; that guitar solo alone is a masterpiece. And it's not just the solo I'm getting at either; usually the first few notes of the song can be figured out my your average Rock fan.

Enter Sandman aswell, it was a HUGE hit song back in the nineties and is widely known due to rockband (for todays generation)

Maybe Kashmir by Zeppelin? Also Brain Stew by Green Day. All I need is that first duh-duh from the guitar and I got it as well as millions of other people I'd assume.

A short list of others:
Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water
Derek and the Dominos - Layla
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
G N' R Sweet Child O' Mine
Cream - Sunshine of Your Love

I got a couple to add to this and i can't believe i forgot them.

Blue Oyster Cult is one of my favorite classic rock bands and these 2 have the most memorable guitar riffs. Don't get me wrong They have more great songs than this but come on I guarentee that people who don't even like Blue Oyster Cult would know Don't fear the Reaper as soon as it starts playing. Godzilla not so much for the non fans but if you do like them then odds are good you know it when it starts.

More to come if i hear them on my iPOD.

How about some riffs from the riff master himself, Keith Richards?
Stones songs with instantly recognizable riffs include:
Satisfaction
Jumping Jack Flash
Honky Tonk Woman
Gimme Shelter
Brown Sugar
Tumbling Dice
Miss You
Start Me Up etc.

And those are just the big hits. There are other less well known but just as good ones that should be checked out like Bitch, Can't You Hear Me Knocking and Rocks Off.

Walk by Pantera. As soon as it starts, anyone who has ever heard that song knows it.

I was going to write that, but you beat me.

The second you hear the introduction to Walk, you know right away its Pantera.
When Disturbed performed it live, before they even mentioned it was Pantera's Walk...right when the intro started to play the audience was shouting WALK!!!

A good one that hasn't been mentioned would be Iron Man by Black Sabbath. It has a guitar riff that truly stands out and there's nothing else like it. It's one of the most memorable guitar riffs for me because I know what it is as soon as I hear it and lots of memories fron listening to it come back every time I hear it. A legendary riff.

I can't say it's memorable to the general public since it wasn't even a single but Joe Perry's riff from "Combination" off Aerosmith's 1976 album, Rocks, is great fun for me to hum. I also enjoy Davey Johnstone's riff from Elton John's "Grow Some Funk Of Your Own". As for ones that the general public would know? Well, I bet Day Tripper or I Feel Fine by The Beatles would be right up there.

Just like More Than a Feeling:

Possibly the first riff that a guitarist learns:

Clapton was awesome:

Almsot any song by:

Mmm, the 90's:

PARANOID ftw.
The moment you hear the beginning of that song you know exactly what it will be. Im shocked I havent mentioned that earlier.

2 songs that you know just by the 1st note on the guitar. Both incredibly memorable, and both instantly recognisable.

Too bad there is little being made these days that can compare with either track lol

Told you I'd be back with more and i have to say I'm surpirsed that no one has mentioned these.

How can anyone talk about memorable guitar riffs without mentioning the late great Ronnie James Dio? These are probably his 2 most famous songs and they're high up on my list of not only favorite songs but those with the most memorable guitar riffs as well. I mean listen to it, Just sit there and let the greatness of Dio wash over you. I don't know if he was on the guitar or not but if He wasn't he sure knows how to pick 'em

Another Sabbath monster riff. So heavy, and so good. Tony Iommi is a fucking master.

Notice how so many riffs suggested lead back to Sabbath.

Paranoid
Headless Cross
Iron Man
Dio (Former Sabbath singer)

All in all it just seems that Tony Iommi is the master of the riff, no matter who his vocalist is!

Tom M is a riff master in the mold of Tony
Iommi.

Here he proves that sometimes a hex
key/Allen wrench works better than a guitar
pick.

You said it bro, Morello is an fucking genius when it comes to unique-sounding riffs!
