Mortal Kombat; downloadable retro gear?

Any of you that have followed the game through it's various incarnations are familiar with the story and whatnot. This isn't about that. There's another thread for chatting about this fantastic game. What I'm talking about here is the exclusivity for people who pre-ordered the game at different locations. Apparently, between pre-ordering online, at Best Buy, or at EB Games/Gamestop, you could walk away with a downloadable bonus costume for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, or Ermac. The skins of these charecters are reminiscent of MK1, only slightly more detailed (thank you to the Krypt, where you can unlock renderings of the retro suits). NetherRealm Studios announced that all these costume, as well as certain other ones for different charecters, will be available at a later date as paid DLC.

Also note that Jade's retro gear is available if you buy either of the old MK movies that have been re-released on Blu-Ray.

Questions I ask are this;
Should these costumes have been unlockable in game, or were NRS smart in making them DLC, knowing how many a hardcore gamer would kill to have Reptile's human form?

Which of the 4, or any other charecters would you like to have the costume of?

More and more game companies and stores are doing things like this and more and more it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I understand the reasoning behind it and the marketing tactics but the games are already expensive enough and they're just cashing in on gamers inability to stop themselves from spending their money on novelties like these. If you're going to offer them as a pre-order bonus then just have them unlockable in the game, don't force us to pay for something that could have easily been left in the game, it will still give gamers incentive to pre-order at a particular store because it saves them the trouble of trying to unlock it. I honestly can't blame the companies for doing this as it's a sound marketing technique, especially given the hardcore cult following Mortal Kombat games have. I just wish the gaming industry as a whole would be above such capitalist endeavors and would just want to give the best experience possible. A little fantastical I know but a guy can dream.

I'd probably go after the old school Reptile costume. He was always my favorite of the ninja characters and his animal form was pretty cool the first time they did it but I've always tried to unlock the old school version every time it's available in one of the games.

I went with the Scorpion Skin and Klassic Fatality from GameStop when I pre-ordered because obviously, he's the coolest MK Kharacter. But if you want a significant change in going with a retro and modern look, I would suggest Reptile's or Ermac's retro costumes. Scorpion and Sub-Zero's look doesn't make a difference since they've always been in ninja form.
