Entertainer Michael Jackson was taken to a hospital on Thursday after suffering cardiac arrest, sources briefed on the situation told CNN.

A Los Angeles fire official told CNN that paramedics arrived at Michael Jackson's home after a 911 call.

Paramedics revived Jackson before taking him to the hospital.

Fire Capt. Steve Ruda told CNN a 911 call came in from a west Los Angeles residence at 12:21 p.m.

Ruda said Jackson was treated and transferred to the UCLA Medical Center.

Asked specifics of the patient's condition, the spokesman said he could not discuss them because of federal privacy laws.

The music icon from Gary, Indiana, was known as the "King of Pop."

Jackson was the seventh of nine children in a well-known musical family.

Sources say that apparently he is already dead.

Michael Jackson is one of the biggest if not the biggest figure in the history of music. He changed the industry, and not talking about the person itself because I didn't knew him, he is one of the most important persons in music...

Thoughts?

I never thought I could get emotional about a famous person dying, because IMO, a famous person who I grew up with has never died - until now.

As a 32-year-old guy, I was 5-years-old when Thriller "dropped". As corny as it sounds, one of my fondest childhood memories was waiting for my dad to get home from work so we could drive to the mall on a work night. These types of trips were usually reserved for weekends and he worked at a steel mill in Pittsburgh so going shopping when he came home was unheard of. I had no clue why we were going - I didn't know what Thriller was or who Michael Jackson was... but I can remember seeing the amazing display in front of Sam Goody with this guy in black leather. Then we listened to the cassette everywhere we went in the car and always had the record playing in the house for weeks.

Anyway... as a kid, I always wanted the fake red leather jackets with sparkles they had at Hills Department stores and the glitter gloves.

The Thriller music video scared the living shit out of me... and to some extent, it's still scary to me...

Since I'm kind of old, I can honestly say I haven't watched MTV for nearly ten years, but find myself flipping back and forth between MTV and CNN tonight.

For the first time in nine years (my son was born in 2000), I actually shed a tear when retelling the Thriller album story to my girlfriend while we ate dinner tonight (I'm such a douche - I know).

Say what you will, but I was / am / always will be a Michael Jackson fan. Thank you for the memories (the good ones) and the music.

Rest in Peace King of Pop !!

Yeah, he's dead for sure. It's amazing. Obviously, he had a lot of demons in his life.

I firmly believe there was something wrong with him. He defaced himself, looked like a monster, and there are the accusations of the child fetishes.

You cannot deny he was one of the greatest musical minds ever. I fear for his "children", which I firmly believe aren't his. I hope they don't end up with Jackson's father.

Anyhow, RIP, Michael. I hope you find mercy and peace. If you really hurt children, you'll have to deal with that shit now. No lawyer will save you.

But, hopefully you can RIP, and the media doesn't rip you too hard.

I've got some of his songs on now. Reminds me of better times before Mike lost it. :(

Music wise he really was the King of pop, but his personal life was a complete wreck. He definitely had some demons and it's a tragedy that he was not able to overcome them. I was born the same year Thriller was released, so obviously I have no recollection of it, but not to long after I was able to check it out. Very sad news indeed.

What is also a tragedy is that Farrah Fawcett's death has been put in the shadows because of Michael Jackson's death. :(

As a musician, I can't help but be affected by the death of Michael Jackson. As I got home from work last night and turned on the news, I couldn't help but think back on all of the ways that MJ influenced parts of my life.

I can remember when the Thriller video came out and I couldn't watch it unless the lights were on and another one of my family members were in the room. I remember stealing my mother's white winter gloves and coloring black dots on one of them with a Sharpie-type marker to resemble MJ's famous glove, and I also remember how much trouble I got into for doing it. I remember going to my eighth grade prom and my best friend wore a dark blue Cavaricci suit with a white fedora hat because he was such a fan of MJ's music.

Michael Jackson had music running through every one of his pores. He was born in 1958 and began performing professionally at age 11. His entire livelyhood was based around his ideas and performance in music. Countless artists were influenced by him, and he is the sole reason that some of today's biggest stars to begin their music careers. From his days as the lead vocal in the Jackson 5 singing "I Want You Back" and "ABC", to his first live solo performace on Motown 25 where he revolutionized the world by debuting his signature 'Moonwalk' to the tune of "Billy Jean", to his creation of "Thriller", the largest selling album of all time, Michael will always be iconic.

A victim of a traumatic childhood, his most recent years became somewhat of a joke to the mainstream media due to his constant bad judgement in the public eye. He has been verbally and emotionally beat up, criticised, and frowned upon, but throughout all of his tribulations, he still did the best to provide for his children and family.

I've never felt such personal anguish for the death of a star in the music industry such as this. I consider the death of Michael Jackson to be as traumatic as the murder of John Lennon. The most important things to remember about Michael Jackson should be the effect that he had on the entire world through his music, dance, live performance, and his raw, natural, unquestioned talent.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson 1958-2009

If anyone knows of his childhood, you would know he had it hard growing up. His father was a very productive, yet stern man. He wasn't very kind to his children. So all Michael's life, he had a rough time. From his childhood, to the fire he was in on stage, to all the plastic surgeries, to all the media going on about him molesting children(which is I still believe unknown if he did it), to his death.

Michael Jackson really was the King of Pop. He was a great icon to lots. He had great music. He will be remembered for it all.

It was shocking to hear about his passing. It's really sad too. There's speculation about being addicted to a shot he got every day that caused this. Now the media is trying to possibly blame the doctor that was there at the time of his cardiac arrest. The doctor apparently lived at Jackson's residence and now police can't find him.

In my opinion I think he had a lot of things wrong with him health wise and he just didn't take care of himself. He just let his health get the best of him. I believe the media said that he was getting ready for a tour or something here in the near future.

It was a terrible thing that happened. It sucks to hear about a big celebrity passing away at such a remotely young age.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson.

I was 4 years old the first time i heard Micheal Jackson. I was watching Cartoon on t.v and after the cartoon you always had a countdown show and i remember that the videoclip for Billie Jean was number 1 that week like it was the week before and after seeing this videoclip i was hook, i would ask my parents for everything micheal jackson related. I had the trading cards and the famous coat with alot of zipper. I also got the Thriller Vinyl album for christmas.

To this day, i always remain an Micheal Jackson fan and my only regret was that i never got the chance to see him in concert and now that he's gone, i never will have the chance. Micheal Jackson was the Elvis Prestley of our Generation and today we lost one of the greatest performer to ever step into showbusiness. So R.I.P. Michael, your problem are all behind you and you will be remember as the great performer that you were.

I can't believe he is dead. He was my favorite artist growing up and was still one of my favorites to this day. I still had a bunch of his cassette tapes at my moms house.

I grew up with Michael as well during the Thriller years. My cousin Lisa danced like him perfectly and I even dressed like him for Halloween one year. My mom made the red captain's jacket he had. I still have it somewhere, it could fit a monkey now, ha.

I was always a fan of his, even when the child molestation charges were rampant, I just felt that deep down he never did anything to those kids. There are so many other people that said there kid spent time with him and nothing ever happened to them.

I felt that his childhood, well, he never had one. From growing up in a strict house to being in the limelight at a young age, the man never had that childhood life that we fondly remember. And yet, unlike famous people who fall into the decadence of booze, drugs(well reports say MJ was hopped up on pain pills, but...) and other forms of debauchery; Jackson felt the need to try to reconnect his childhood with other children. He has said that children never set out to hurt him or anything. I agree.

Anyway, I felt it was fitting of MTV to be playing his videos all day instead of bogging us down with the mind-fuck shows they have on rotation. MTV Jams is strictly playing the videos without any interviews and such like regular MTV has been doing. My little sister, who is 6, loves Michael Jackson and she was very upset by the passing of his death. I told her that his music is still there to listen to and you can always listen to his music anytime you want. And even though he is not with us anymore it doesn't mean you won't forget about him. That seemed to help her a bit even though she overheard CNN before downstairs and she was getting upset again.

I know there are some people that are like, "Oh whatever, you didn't know him." or "Eh, he touched children." Yet, we all felt a connection because somehow he had a profound impact on A LOT of people's lives and it came out of left field, to be honest. And seriously, I know people loved Princess Diana and that was a tragedy as well, but Michael Jackson was friggin God at one point. He literally had the world in his hands for many years.

It just sucks that his death was the only way he was able to redeem himself from his haunted past. You know people are going to come out of the woodwork to make a buck on his death now, but now that he is dead, he won the respect of his naysayers again. It is kind of fucked up in a way but that is how it goes, sadly.

He will be missed, that is for damn sure. Yet, I feel he is truly at peace now and doesn't have to deal with anymore bullshit from the outside world. The man was insanely one of a kind. I will miss him.

I was 4 years old the first time i heard Micheal Jackson. I too had that famous coat with a lot of zippers. I always called it my Michael Jackson coat.

It's still a shock to me of his passing away. I see people pass away quite a few times a year(I work in a nursing home), but once a "young" celebrity passes away, it gives you quite a shock.

The sad thing most likely, is that the media is going to be nuts. They are probably going to try and clobber his family and try to get as much information as possible from them.

I thought it was rude that camera crews were in the hospital yesterday.

Well, even being 25 now, I've gotta admit, I never was huge on Michael Jackson when I was growing up - I was introduced quite early to Rock and later Metal music, and I really listened to that kind of stuff more than I ever did to pop music.

But later on, I really discovered his music and had to realize how great it truly was, from a musical point alone - not even taking into consideration how he revolutionized music videos with "Thriller" or how he left his mark on the evolution of dance and dance moves.

So right now, all I can do is say that while we all know he was a very troubled individual, and haunted by many demons, he still was probably the last great entertainer the world has seen, maybe the last of a dying breed. He managed to combine great musicianship with tremendous mass appeal - and that is really the high art of music. There were few bands or artists over the course of history, and I'd say there was only one for each generation, who managed to have such a lasting impact on such a wide range of people. Personally, for the 50ies to 60ies, I'd call it Elvis Presley, from the 60ies to the 70ies it was the Beatles, from the 70ies to the 80ies I'd actually call it Queen, and from the 80ies to the 90ies, without a shadow of a doubt, Michael Jackson.

Right now, I do not see a single band or artist even marginally able to take a position such as his was in music history; meanwhile, especially pop music, has evolved into this artificial flavor-of-the-month construct, and really does not bring forth such great artists anymore.

I guess it is safe to say that Jackson will leave a void that can never be filled, much like others did when they left. There never will be another one quite like me.

And as troubled and problematic as he may have been as a person - from his plastic surgeries to turn from a black man into a white one, to this allegations of child abuse - as an artist, he definitely was one of a kind.

I really would have wished for him to deliver a comeback worthy of his status - but alas, genius and madness always live close to each other, and hopefully he has all his troubles behind him now.

The world has lost one of its greatest artists ever; but may he now in death have that peace with himself that he so obviously never could find in life - sic transit gloria mundi!

It really is a tragedy, Michael Jackson died, the most famous musician in the world since Elvis Presley has passed away.

His music always was awesome and I have to admitt that I loved his music.
His music was entertaining and yet often enough touching, he was a genius and should be remembered for his love to the music and his work in general not for accusations of any kind.

As I kinda hinted to in my first reaction in the spam thread, this sucks. Really, it does suck. Yes, I know, I didn't know Jackson personally, we didn't hang out all that shit, but it is still a staple of my childhood that is no longer there. Pretty much in my young childhood, two celebrities would get my unadulterated attention when they were on the screen, one of those Michael Jackson, the other was Hulk Hogan. Hell, I tried to push MJ past metallica in the Music Tourney last year on a board full of testosterone filled violence lovers.

It's amazing just listening to most of his tributes on radio the last few days, getting to once again listen to a vast majority of his singles, just how talented the guy was. It's amazing how much of an over all entertainer the guy was. i truly believe that the guy was the last of his kind. NO musicican will command the respect and attention that this guy has in his death. When the most promising act on the hip hop scene is a socialy inept Racist like Kanye West, when pop is reduced to nothing but the best looking youngest blonde on the scene, when Rock music is less about poetry and more about self pity, its a wonder why the industry still exist at all.

Michael Jackson essentially created the genre of pop music, but stayed true to his motown roots. Listen to his early albums, the work that him and Quincy Jones did together is legendary. Off the Wall, Thriller, and to some extents bad, are masterpieces of albums. Also, the man made music videos relevant, and is credited for the early success of networks like BET, MTV, and VH1, simply put, without Michael jackson, those networks wouldn't exist.

It's also amazing to me the reaction that this is getting, as from my own personal experience, a generation gap is rearing its ugly head. Hell even on these forums you can see it. For the most part, people my age and maybe a couple years younger, grew up with the guy. Our image of the man is from Billie Jean, Thriller or Bad. He was the ultra talented musician thhat made kick ass music videos and moved his bodies in ways that would make Elvis Presley stare in awe.

Then y ou get the people that are around 20 and younger. The younger generation that unfortunately only sees Michael Jackson as Wacko Jacko, the media created entity meant to belittle a man that most of those hypocrites worshipped just years earlier. The eccentric personality coupled with his physical changes contributed to this, but it's still no excuse for what happened next.

The false accusations of child molestation, a charge that was so strong that California couldn't get it to stick, twice. I applaud Michael Jackson for being able to stand against the accusations against him, and beat the system twice. If the charges and allegations were true, then the State would have gotten him at least once in my opinion. I fully believe that this situation came about do to Sony wanting his library, overzealous asshole police officers, and of course the people that do God's work, prosecutors, simply wanting to be made famous by association with going against a bizarre celebrity.

As a fan, I stopped having interest in his work around the Free Willy time. After Dangerous, the music became less and less about creating fun, upbeat music, and instead about preaching a message. There's nothing wrong with that, but there's a reason his popularity began to decline from that point. It's like Rage Against the Machine, sometimes you have to simply shut up, and make music, not everyone wants to hear your message. I applaud Jackson for using his label as "Most Popular Man on the Planet" to preach upon, but I also recognize why it didn't work.

In the end, my Generation has lost it's Elvis Presley. I truly believe the last truly great entertainer has died, and alogn with it, the Music Industry will continue to die it's long, miserable death it so richly deserves. I only wish that todays music acts had a shred of the talent that Michael Jackson had in his little toe.

Rest In Peace Michael Jackson.

Well, it is hard to post in here after Shocky basically summed everything up. I am 22 years old and I missed most of the Jackson Era. I missed the beginning of the moonwalk, I missed Thriller and I missed most of his classic hits, but that doesn't mean anything. Over the years I grew to respect the man, he was an awesome musician who can move, dance, and sing like no other. He's produced some of the greatest pop songs of all time and on top of those songs he produced some of the greatest music videos of all time. For instance, I can still watch the video to Thriller and I am still in awe.

As Jacksons career began to plummet, I tended to stay away from all the accusations, it was the media attempting to destroy one mans legacy. He didn't need to be guilty for it to work, he was already a creep in the medias eyes and he began to lose a lot of money. Anyways, after he died and you began to listen to his music again you come to realize how talented he really was. There will never be another Michael Jackson. He's going to leave a gaping hole in the music industry, as he should, because he was really the last great entertainer. Damn, the guy could sing and dance like no other. May he R.I.P.

Missing an artist's prime doesn't mean you should miss him any less. Not being around when his best album was released doesn't mean you shouldn't be less sad that he dies. As long as you love his music, there's no reason you shouldn't be as sad as a fan who's seen Jackson through his whole career.
I'm only 17, I wasn't alive for his albums up until Dangerous. I've never seen him live.
But I know what a big loss is to the music world. I know how much is means to people who were teenagers and young adults in the 70's and 80's.
I know Jackson is a great artist and entertainer. Quite possibly the best ever. He didn't deserve any of the crap that was said about him when he was alive. And I'm sure as hell gonna miss him as much as any older fan.

Im 22 years old, I have been a fan of MJ since I was 4 years old, which was 1991, MJ was just maybe past his prime in terms of musical success, although Dangerous went on to sell 32 million copies worldwide over the next few years. I dont know what it was that drew me to Michael in the first place, but I loved him as a kid and I still love his music now. He was a utter genuis, there is no other way to describe him. He was our Elvis. He was the last truly great mega superstar still left. The likes of Beyonce, Kayne West, Usher etc will never achieve even a quarter of what MJ did, nor are they even a quarter talented.

He crossed boundaries in the 80s like no one ever had before. He practically made MTV and made music videos a accepted media art form. His videos were still the greatest ever made and no one can even touch him. Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Scream, Remember the Time, Beat It were fantastic videos.

I was a loyal MJ follower up until the end. I never believed he did the shit he was accused of. It was simply frausters trying to embezzle money out of a money making machine. I was to go see him at the 02 Arena on 24th July and 21 September. I had never sene him live before and I was so looking forward to it, but my dream is lost and my heart is broken that I will never get to see him live.

Like Shocky says, part of my childhood has died along with MJ, he meant so much to me growing up, as he does now, I still can't believe he is actually gone. For some reason I expected MJ to live forever. I just wish he went out on top. Instead of the 'what if's' we are getting now that he was about to make a comeback.

He will never be rivalled. He was the true KOP.

R.I.P Michael.

I wasn't a huge MJ fan but i did enjoy the music his charisma, he will always be missed, i gave us the moonwalk, Thriller and Billie Jean and countless other hits, he was one of a kind. To put it simply one of the best entertainers of our time.

Let's not forget his music with the Jackson 5 which were classic as well. ABC,Santa Claus coming to town, My momma kiss Santa Claus,Ben,I Be There,he has a whole list of classics before going solo.

My favorite Jackson song is Liberian Girl. It was probably the only soulful R&B record on Bad. Bad was the biggest music tour ever as well.

Put it this way, Jackson sold 750,000 million records before he died. That's more than anyone. Imagine how much he will sell now. He already broke a billboard record this week.

just made a video in memory of him. I was watching all the news and thought i should do something in memory of him. He is one of the greatest entertainer ever to be on stage and will be greatly missed. With him being gone tho he music is going to be around for ever and new music is still to come because he had tons of music that was never released and he saved it for his kids so they could have the profits. Interesting to see what will be on the next cd tho.

i really like micaehl jackson so i was really sad when he died he made so much good music and made so many people smile i loved his songs like thriller and billy jean and beat it and magic tree and they dont care about us and dirty diana and smooth criminal and the way you make me feel and i really like micaehl as a dancer like when he did the moon walk or the robot or the electric slide or the crank that or the slow dance he was such a great man i am just sad that he had the devils of toching children with him that was a really bad thing to do but i still like him
