Matt Hughes resigns with the UFC

Matt Hughes, a former UFC welterweight champion, on Thursday affirmed his desire to remain active, stating that he has signed a new multi-fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“Last week I went out to Vegas and I signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC, which is much like my last contract,” said Hughes via a post on his official Web site.

So, what do you think? Do you believe Matt Hughes has anything left in the tank? Is there anyone you'd like to see Hughes fight before he retires? Let's hear it!

I personally believe Hughes is one of the greatest Welterweight in the sport's history, and will remain so as time goes by, no matter what transpires from this point on. But, you know what? I think he can still get some wins under his belt before retiring. His fight with Serra shows that Hughes isn't completely dead yet, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing just what he has to offer and if he can somehow work his way back up to a title shot.

As far as who I would like to see him fight, well... Jake Shields is the first comes to mind, but that's not very likely. What is likely and something I most definitely would like to see is Hughes face against the winner of the Koscheck/Trigg fight that's happening at UFC 103. Hughes vs. Koscheck would be interesting because they're so alike, and I'd love to see who is just better. And Hughes/Trigg 3 of course would just be fun as hell, especially if it's anything like their two previous fights.

Also, I wouldn't mind a fight with Jon Fitch since it hasn't happened yet, as I think that would be spectacular, and a rematch with Alves wouldn't be so bad, either.

But yeah... all and all, I was happy to hear about Hughes resigning, and I for one look forward to seeing what comes his way in the near future.

Not a big Hughes fan, but its good to hear he resigned. He is still a pretty big name, and I'm sure people would still pay to see him fight. I for one think he definitely still has the fighting spirit in him, he's 35 which is isn't to old if your already a established fighter, and his only losses in UFC come against Penn, Alves, and 2 losses to GSP. Thats not too shabby at all, hell, he got the win over Matt Serra in his last fight. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Serra's some great fighter or something, but he's definitely impressive, impressive enough that based on Matt Hughes performance against him, he is still got gas in the tank and ready to go.

As for his fights, of course I would love a Trigg/Hughes 3 for all the obvious reasons, but realistically I would like for him to take on Thiago Alves again, as for him taking Alves this time though? Who knows. I thought he would take Thiago last time with his superior ground game, and I still think he might have if he didn't get knocked with that huge knee that started his downfall that fight. What I would really love is a another match with Sean Sherk, which of course won't happen with Sherk being a main stay in the lightweight divison, but a man can dream can't he?
