Match Themed PPV's (Thread)

As we can see, the WWE are having a huge wash with all of the PPV changes going on. They've retired matches and changed names. That's why I made this thread to centre around the changes and for you to post your opinion on the matters. At this point, (excluding the big 4) there are 5 match themed PPV's (I think).
- No Way Out,
- Extreme Rules,
- WWE Breaking Point,
- WWE Hell in a Cell,
- and TLC.

In my opinion, I think that these PPV's are lame... Apart from No Way Out and WWE Breaking Point, I can live with those. The others I perfered as normal PPV's with no theme too it. Apart from the big 4, No Mercy was my favourite one, don't ask me why, it just was...

I think the biggest disadvantage of these PPVs is that they eliminated the surprise of what type of match will be in the main event...

I was also thinking to myself, if Bad Blood was still around, would they change that to a First Blood match theme...

i really hate this idea that WWE are doing. what's the point of having a PPV with all the main events the same match type. im ok with extreme rules because that can be any no DQ match, but TLC, Hell in a Cell, Breaking point, they are going to be too similar matches. i love hell in a cell as much as the next guy but what makes a hell in a cell special is how they hardly happen. so having 3 in a row will take that away. plus with the hell in a cell PPV they can't do much anyway cos of the stupid PG rating. i bet at least one of the matches they don't even leave the ring.

breaking point is a whole new story though, submission moves are the lowest and most boring point of any match. u hav to admit that when a superstar gets another superstar in a choke hold or head lock u think oh great, now theres gonna be a whole five minutes of holding each other until the one in the move narrowly escapes by getting a rope break. so why make a PPV of that. every move is now gonna be submission so it's basically 3 hours a superstars sat down hugging each other. how fun!

well TLC better be the last one they make because if they make a last man standing PPV i think il end up being the one down for the count. jus think it would be 3 solid hours of '1,2,3,4,5' he got up '1,2,3,4,5,6' he got up '1,2,3,4' he got up, well u get wat i mean.

I don't see them as lame at all, I think it's an interesting concept that the WWE is trying. One of the most common complaints I read from those that just seem to want to hate on the WWE for whatever reason is that they think everything the WWE does now is "stale" or "predictable" or "uninventive" and so on and so forth.

As for surprise, there's hardly any such thing as surprise in wrestling anymore. Match spoilers get leaked all the time prior to the airing of a show in which a certain type of match is going to take place at which pay per view.

i think wwe should stop trying to ripoff tna vince was prolly like "an all steel cage match ppv, why didnt i think of that. shit!!"

So, does that mean you feel that TNA should stop hiring wrestlers that became well known while working for the WWE? Or that TNA should stop trying to advertise their show by passing out fliers at areans in which a WWE event is going on?

I don't know how; No Way Out is a match, but I do see what your saying. You can really tell there changing it for the kids. thats jus a spoiler for all of us i think. You left out Royal Rumble Tho. I give it one year an No Way Out will change its name to Elimanation Chamber.

i am so dissapointed cant anyone tell vince is getting lazy everything is meaning less so what themed ppvs mean is there will be no more meaningful tlc, hell in a cell, submission matchs the hell in a cell ppv is dumb hell in the cell is sapposed to mean something. tlc is ok cause it would be half original but it should of replaced cyber sunday armaggedon was one of the best non big four ppvs. breaking point is cool cause we need more submisions cause seeing cena do the stf is a spit in the face of the people who made that move. extreme rules is cool. you missed night of chaimpions as a themed ppv it all right but i think they need to redo the whole format of the ppvs

I'll admit, I didn't like the theme idea PPVs at first. But as one was changed to HIAC, and another now to TLC, it makes me think... "we're going to see 3 of these matches at these PPVs." Now think about this... At SSlam, I personally believe the TLC match between Punk and Hardy was good. But it didn't live up to my expectations. Fast forward to TLC. One of these 3 matches could match our expectations. The others could exceed them. There's a better chance we take away 1 great match of these themed PPVs. We will remember that great match.

Another plus of these is that with 3 of these themed matches in one night is that since there's so many, we'll get to see some people in these high profile matches that we don't normally get to see. For example I know some of you are sick of HHH in a plain old main event. Throw HHH in a TLC match. I'm automatically interested. Cena in a HIAC match. I'm automatically interested. You all catch my drift. The excuse people use of ruining the "nostalgia" of these types of matches is dumb. The longer a match is around, the less "nostalgiac" it really is. Look at cage matches. They used to be huge. Now when there's one on Raw or Smackdown, I just roll my eyes because they're no longer that interesting. Plus, when was the last time a cage match was even featured on a PPV? I think somebody should look that up because I'm too lazy at this point. The Yuenglings are going down to well for me to care.

Finally, another plus is that these PPVs I believe are going to increase buyrates. Give me 3 TLC matches, I'm purchasing. 3 HIAC matches, I'm a buyer. Because this resorts back to my earlier point of chances of one being epic. Maybe all 3 could be epic. Who knows? Quit shitting on it before you've even seen it and then probably inevitably say "omg it's my favorite ppv now." Cause you know that's going to happen.

The problem is you don't sustain that interest. The first match will be great, but I'm assuming there's at least 2, maybe 3, and you'll go through the same cycle of the build-up during the match. I like having a mandatory one, but any of the same gimmick match twice in a night is overkill, the exception being the Elimination Chambers, because you have plenty of variables that keep it interesting, mainly 6 guys/match. When you have the same spots it hurts the matches, when spots are reserved for later matches... it hurts the matches.

I don't mind it if it's THE main event, not one of three.

In a way I think this is a good idea.. I think its a good idea only because this is making a difference between all of the other ppv.. Before the changes its basically the same thing over and over again. Royal rumble is head lined by a battle royal. WM is the biggest show of the year. Survivor series is or used to be atleast the one night you'd see people who wouldn't normally tag together get together to win a match. SS is the biggest Summer ppv.. So with those aside the other ppvs were just blah and the exact same to each one.. I think one of the changes should of brought back the king of the ring.. So the whole night would be a tournament.. That's a theme no? Or even something similar where instead of being king the man who wins the tournament faces the champion right there and then... Idk but tlc ppv and hell in a cell are two I'm lookin foward to.. And bragging rights to me in interesting only because submision wrestling is kind of fallin out so this is a way to bring it back since if you look back you'd see a lot of great wrestlers of the past puttin on some great matches that involved a lot of submission..

No Way Out is one of my favorite PPV's, but only these past couple years when they've used the Elimination Chamber. i'm gay for that shit.
Breaking Point is stupid imo but i'm not into the submission aspect of wrestling. i would much rather see a wrestling match than an MMA match. Watching 6 or 7 submission matches will get old after awhile.

-i think Extreme Rules is awesome just because that's a much more broad spectrum than saying just submissions. They could do a basic hardcore match, a ladder, street fight, parking lot brawl, etc.

in retort to this ignorance im going to say:

really!?!?! where does that fit in. do you think that when a wrestler gets fired from wwe tna should be nope cant touch that guy. seriously if im in the wrestling business and wwe let go the likes of morgan and tomko kurt and rhino among others im gonna be like fuck yeah got my new main event. and the passing out fliers shit . what better to way to spread the word. tna knows that wwe is the main event, they know. but what most wwe fans dont know is that there is an alternative. as wrestling fans we all know the best era of wrestling is arguably the attitude era and thats because there was competition. i know that competition breeds a better product so if i were yall id say i hope tna gets big. hiring wwe guys....... lol...... thats great...http://forums.wrestlezone.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

This is the stupidest idea yet in the WWE its not even every match on the card just a title match is the themed match. Though breaking point should be interesting to see Hell In A Cell will be the worst concept for a PPV having two Cell Matches in one night is just well stupid

I think a Hell in a cell PPV is a good idea, the hell in a cell matches should be for wrestlers who are having good feuds. For example they should have Triple H vs Randy Orton end their feud at the PPV.
