Marcos Maidana Vs. Erik Morales: Early Candidate For Fight Of The Year

Calderownz

Brilliant Idiot
Incredible action.

Erik Morales, an; older, more bloated, passed-his-prime, future hall of famer almost pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent memory. Not to mention that it was in an early candidate for fight of the year honors.

Morales was a 6-1 underdog in the bout and was supposed to be easy work for Maidana. Marcos Maidana is a beast, but he wasn't so much tonight. Some actually feared for his health prior to the bout.

Yet, in the bout, Morales lands the better shots and hurts Maidana on several occasions. He won a lot of the rounds and the fight could have gone either way.

If you have HBO, you should try and catch the replay next Saturday. It will be shown before Amir Khan's bout in England and the bout between Andre Berto-Victor Ortiz.

Great fight.

You know, I thought this was airing on HBO last night. I was sorely disappointed when I found out it was on pay-per-view. I missed a damn good show.

I will definitely watch the fight next week, but I am by no means surprised by Erik Morales' performance. Morales is an incredible boxer, while Maidana is an incredible BRAWLER. This fight was tailor made for Morales, and I have no idea how people could figure he was such an underdog. Props to both guys though for laying it all on the line and giving the people their money's worth. Didn't expect any different from these two, though.

I was very sad to hear that James Kirkland got knocked out in the first round. I mean, what the fuck? How did that happen? Looks like Nobuhiro Ishida could be on the verge of becoming Japan's first big boxer; you can definitely consider me a fan of his now.

Was also disappointed to hear that Katsidis loss. Looks like he's turning into a bit of a stepping stone. Damn shame.

And no surprise for the Paulie and Garcia outcomes.

All in all it looked like a fun event. Disappointed I had to miss it. But oh well, I'm ready to watch my boy Amir Khan put in work next week.

El Terrible showed me why i love this sport, i gave him slim to no chance in this fight based on his performances since the comeback but he did show why he is regarded as having one of the best chins ever and he used his boxing brain to roll with most of Maidanas punches. I scored the fight for Morales by 1 round and i have no doubt that if not the eye injury in the 1st round that he would have won more convincingly, a rematch will be great to see.

Far from it, Kirkland needs to get a new trainer and quick, i think its more a case of not taking the fight seriously and overburning himself as this was his 3rd fight in 5 weeks. Ishida is not japans next big boxer and jirkland should take care of him in a rematch with a full training camp and by taking him seriously as a live threat, the guy is also 35 so time is not on his side. Japan have a rich history in boxing at lower weights and have several world champions at the moment such as Uchiyama, Nishioka and Koki Kameda. Seing as you love Aoki in MMA for his wild antics you should do some research on Koki Kameda as the guy is a fucking nutter and hilarious to boot.
