In what might have to be considered the Fight Of The Year thus far, undefeated Brandon Rios overcame a gritty challenge in the form of slick, power-puncher Miguel Acosta.
Acosta was the WBA Lightweight Champion coming into the bout and many considered him one of the best in the division. In the early portions of the fight, Acosta was proving their point by out-boxing and out-slugging his younger foe.
However, as the fight wore on, Rios began to cut the ring off a bit better while landing thudding shots. He knocked him down twice in the bout before dropping him a final time in the tenth.
The battle didn't come without it's consequences, however. Brandon Rios, never complaining about this once during the fight, broke his right hand during one of the grueling exchanges. Acosta was also taken to the hospital on a stretcher.
Some of Rios' upcoming bouts seem like they might be rather interesting. He might have the ability to snag a rematch with Acosta if nothing else comes along. However, Humberto Soto might also be an option. Juan Manuel Marquez as well.
