I think that it goes without saying, even though it's been said over and again, that Bret Hart is without a doubt the better in-ring worker of these two. Is that what defines a legend? To me, while in ring ability plays a small role, I have a different perception of what a legend is.
To me:
A legend is someone who knows how to tell a story..
A legend is someone who can makes the fans care..
A legend is someone who take the ball and roll with it..
A legend is someone who goes night in and night out and puts on the absolute best show that he can..
A legend is someone who cares about the business and does what he can to make it great..
In my humble opinion, there is no greater legend than..
Hulk Hogan. Unfortunately, Bret Hart has already surpassed The Hulkster. I don't think that should have happened, but it did. If I had to choose a runner up, I'd be Naich.
Ric Flair gave us his best for 36 years. He helped shape wrestling into what it is today. After I watched his DVD, I gained a new respect for him. He would wrestle 360 days a year. Ric Flair wrestled every night. He was the business and the business was him. He talked about one week where he wrestled to a 60 minute draw against Dusty Rhodes every single night. That is a remarkable task that no one has come close to repeating.
He truly gave us his all. He put wrestling above his family. While I don't agree with that, and I know he regrets, it still shows his unmatchable dedication to the wrestling business. It was the most important thing in the world to him.
I could go on and on for hours about all the things he accomplished in the ring. I could talk about his excellent talking. But, for me, his dedication is enough to seal the deal. And while Bret is the better athlete and wrestler, he is not a bigger legend.
