League of Legends INSANITY

Money for nothin, chicks for free
This is a relatively new computer game out there. There's a very similar style to the game to Smite where it's gods vs gods except this is a top down view. I'm watching this huge tournament on television with these gamer experts involved with Clans with their own jackets and sponsors facing off against each other on computers. A huge screen in the background is capturing all the action while a commentator is losing his shit over the actions on the screen. The winning team got a large trophy while fireworks shot up all around them in front of a thousand screaming fans.

What in the fuck is going on? How did this game get so popular so fast? It's basically Smite with a different title. It's crazy. I understand the Call of Duty tournaments (even though a million dollar prize is a bit ridiculous for winning a video game against another group...) because Call of Duty is a long established franchise. But League of Legends has caught on so fast it's pretty hilarious to watch. Just listening to these commentators screaming about a magic barrier used at the perfect time is too funny.

I'm a nerd, but this is unquestionably the nerdiest thing I've ever seen. I just want to travel to these tournaments and laugh at these people taking this game so seriously. When it shows them on the keyboards you'd swear they were playing an actual sport with the pride of their country on the line. Jumping out of their chairs and cry screaming with joy when they win. Looking at each other and covering their eyes when they lose.

Please tell me you are joking. Because League of Legends is 5 years older then Smite.

Also from all complains about it(salty community full of kids, DOTA is far superior game and LOL is just a clone etc) you took one that actually is good because it brought "e- sport" some recognition with mass tournaments on big stadiums and fans so invested to go watch it live. I mean just look at this data

The League of Legends World Championship is the annual professional League of Legends world championship tournament hosted by Riot Games and is the culmination of each season. The first World Championship was held in 2011 at DreamHack Winter 2011 and was won by Fnatic. Teams compete for the champion title, the 70 pounds (32 kg) Summoner's Cup, and a US$1,000,000 champion prize.[1] In 2016, the finals were watched by 43 million people, with a peak concurrent viewership of 14.7 million viewers, breaking 2015's finals' viewer records.[2] The total cumulative daily unique impressions (the amount of unique viewers that tuned in every day via online and television channels) reached 396 million. LA 2024, which is overseeing the Los Angeles bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics was inspired by the success of 2016 League of Legends World Championship and is considering to plan and include eSports in the Olympics games if they win the bid. Casey Wasserman, the chairman of LA 2024, suggested using technology used in certain segments of League of Legends Worlds such as augmented reality and virtual reality to make the Olympics more accessible to a younger demographic.

League of Legends World Championships have gained tremendous success and popularity, making it among the world's most prestigious and watched tournaments (challenging even Sports tournaments), as well as the most watched video game in the world. The 2016 League of Legends World Championship Finals attracted more viewership than 2016 NBA Finals. Due to the success of League of Legends, eSports scenes became prominent and widely seen as a potential Olympics event, it will also be included as a medal event in 2022 Asian Games.[4][5][6][7][8][9]
