Last night I went to a GnR concert

El Rev sXe

If you have ghosts...
And it was fucking awesome, you can say whatever the hell you want, but listening to "november rain" live, is quiet a musical journey/experience. Plus getting to see my modern guitar hero, Bumblefoot was incredible! I found a whole new respect and admiration to GnR, even to fat Axl.

How many solos/jams did they do?? I know they do a lot

Did Ashba do his Ballad Of Death at all?

Well each guitar player had their own solo, and yes Ashba did play "ballad of death" and again, I gain whole new respect for Ashba, the three of them are incredible guitar players. Plus Bumblefoot played his song, "Abnormal". it was in total like 5 jams, 3 solos, and 2 covers. Great concert.

I'm not into cover bands.

See I don't get that. People don't mind that the only original member of Evanescence is Amy Lee or Billy Corgan is the only original member of Smashing Pumpkins. If it sounds good it sounds good.

Bumblefoot's really technical I hear and Fortus is good. Ashba gets a lot of shit for wearing a hat but honestly he's a great guitarist in his own right

I saw them a few years back and they were great. Axl gets a lot of shit but he was still full of energy and sang as well as he ever did. I can't stand DJ Ashba but Bumblefoot was incredible.

Slash and Izzy are great guitarists but they're replaceable. Axl is really what GnR is about.

Like I said, listening to November rain is absolutely amazing, that's a song that even if Slash made those epics and legendarys solos, is an Axl original.

I see people bitch about Corgan all the time. Not that I agree with it.
Even worse is the people that are bitching about STP replacing Scott.

I've seen Slash in concert twice and no one bitches about him doing GNR songs.

All that matters is that they put on a good show and you enjoyed it. I'd go see them if they came around here.

It doesn't matter who else is in the band as long as the most important member(s) are there. GnR with just Axl is fine. The Pumpkins with just Corgan is fine. Queen with Adam Lambert instead of Freddie Mercury is fucking stupid.

Why??

I mean he's a good singer and he's got a more suitable style similar to Freddie Mercury than Paul Rodgers

Because the other guys like performing the music??

I get that Mercury was arguably the most integral part of the group as he wrote quite a lot of stuff and his personality and voice helped define the group, but May and Taylor also wrote a lot of the Queen catalogue as well so I don't why the other guys can't play the music if they truly want to.

I get some people would be annoyed. Mercury was a one of a kind performer and vocalist but unfortunately he's no longer with us but why should that mean the other members stop performing??

This seems to be that fine line when some people would say they should change the name because its just not the same without certain members. But at the same time they'd still be know as *band with different members

I've heard alot of good things about G'n'R live shows. My friend saw them in Manchester a couple of years ago, and although they only came on stage after midnight (fuck you Axl), he said they sounded amazing.

But I've also read reviews and heard stories about other live performances when they have been terrible.

Slash's solo gigs are brilliant though with Myles Kennedy on vocals- he did "Mr Brownstone", "Rocket Queen", "Paradise City", "Sweet Child", "Nighttrain" and a few other Guns songs and no-one bitched about it.

I think's it's kind of a hit and miss thing with the current GnR line up. For this concert I went to, Axl nailed it, he didn't sang the way he could back in the 90's but he did a great job. However, last night at the Revolver's Golden God awards, man they we're awful. DJ Ashba start playing the riff of Sweet child o' mine and he was clearly out of tune, Axl couldn't hit the high note on the chorus, it was a desaster.

On the other hand, Myles kills some of those tunes, Nightrain for example I honestly think it's better with Myles than the original version. The current version of sweet child o mine it's completely lame compared to the vocal effort of Myles Kennedy.
