Occasional Pre-Show
I'm not talking about promos, charisma, or high flying skills. Which one has the best wrestling skills?

Angle has won a damn gold medal with an injured neck. He trained up to 8-10 hours per day leading up to the Olympics. He is quite possibly the last shoot wrestler today. His in-ring work is flawless and he has tremendous mat work. He also has some amazing submission work.

Taz on the other hand has a 3rd dan in judo. This man was a suplex machine. He did so many variations it was ridicolous. His throws and suplexes were incredible and looked legit because it was no bridge, all impact. He, just like Angle, has some amazing submission work.

Which one would have won in a shoot wrestling match back in the 90's?

Haha...this is completely laughable.

Who would have won a real (not professional) wrestling match back in the 90s? A short fat guy or an Olympic champion? Yeah, I'll go with the Olympic champion.

Gotta agree with Slyfox here. Kurt Angle is an olympic caliber athlete, let alone a gold medal Olympic Caliber athlete. No one in wrestling history probably could match Kurt Angle in his prime in a pure wrestling match, with the exception of bigger guys like Brock Lesnar, but they would be two separate weight classes anyway. Kurt Angle is simply above and beyond anyone when it comes to legit wrestling. It's not meant as a slight to anyone, it's just simple fact.

It isn't laughable....it's been proven that judo is a tough martial art. If you have any doubts go check it out. That tires you in like 15 minutes. To get a black belt in it is no laughing matter.

People do think Taz could have hold his own against Angle...hence the poll. It's just that some people apperantly don't like to voice their opinions.

It's because there aftraid of getting flamed. Angle was a a legit fighter. Tazz had his gimmick inspired by legit fighting. Two different worlds.

Now you could say Angle vs. Elijah Burke in a MMA type match. Obviously Angle would kill Burke on the ground, but it would be the opposite standing. A question like that would make more sense.

3rd Dan Judo is impressive as I know one of the two 6th Dan Judo players in New Zealand and he is old. He could throw me. I would be tempted to take Taz as I know how a Judo player could use the way in which Freestyle Wrestlers work and use it to their advantage. The suplexes wouldn't be that much use but the normal Judo throws would work. Just so you guys can check the guy that I know, was the Coach of the New Zealand Judo Team at the Barcelona Olympics.

as much as i'd have loved to pick taz, i think angle would have it. would be gd if we actually got to see the match cos i think when they were both in their peaks, it would have been an incredible match.

one i'd have loved to see was terkay vs angle. think that would have made a great show

everyone is basing their argument against Taz as a credible fighter on the basis that he didn't go for an Olympic Medal like Kurt Angle did. Judo is not to be snuffed as a legit sport that could take on a Wrestler and Win.

Tazz was a wannabe hard man. He's had backstage fights with RVD, Sabu & New Jack. And not once has he ever come out on top. He's just somebody who believed in his gimmick too much.

Maybe so, but how does anyone know that maybe he just didn't want any altercations? I'm pretty sure once you posted about how if a fight is about to take place you should just walk away.

He might have just wanted to be clear of any trouble and not be a pain in Paul's ass. Just because someone backs down of an upcoming fight doesn't make them a "pussy" or a "wannabe hard man".

I've also read this before somewhere, and I think the Hardcore Homecoming DVD (non WWE sanctioned) the guys said that Taz was often not as tough as he came across. I've heard the stories to of him getting punked out by RVD.

Unless you have legit evidence (not rumors) like a website, there is no proof to back up that statement.

Give me legit evidence of him being able to take Kurt Angle in a fight and I'll give you legit evidence of him getting his ass kicked by 3 different wrestlers.

Judo. Easily a match for Freestyle Wrestling. Ignore suplexes and look t it from the standpoint of Judo Vs. Freestyle Wrestling. Judo 3rd Dan vs. Olympic Wrestler. I would take the 3rd Dan Judo Player as I have seen what Judo players can do. The guy I mentioned could throw me and he is closing in on 70 with a bad back and I am no lightweight in terms of size. So I would take Taz on the basis that he gets the leverage advantage due to being shorter than Kurt Angle, same with the Judo throws. But is this a match where pinning or throwing out of the ring wins or is it a make them pass out match. If Taz has done Aikido I would give him an advatage in the second one but just purely Judo on the floor I would give it to Taz this is based on the first option.

A match with takedowns and winner goes by submission. Basically picture it as a UFC match without the strikes.

Shadowmancer you said it perfectly. Judo isn't something to mess with. Wrestling is fine and all, but rumor has it attacking a martial arts black belt is like attacking yourself.

Taz may be short, but in most martial arts it doesn't matter if you're tall, strong, fat, large, or anything like that. Hell being short would probably work towards his advantage.

I did kickboxing for years. I was good at it. But if you put me against a professional in another striking sport I'd get dominated.

Same with Angle & Tazz. Wrestling was Angles profession. Put somebody who trains nearly every day, somebody who's life is dominated by it. Against somebody who does it maybe twice a week. Angle would defeat Tazz. There is no question about it.

in a Professional vs. Amateur fight the pro will always win.

I've heard that saing before, the saying could be true with both Judo and Ju Jitsu masters

angle is good i think hed win i mean didnt he break someone's ankle and plus he won a gold medal i know its bragged about all the time which puts down its significance but really its an achievement and a good one.

Taz i dunno he has good suplexes but if angle hadnt to worry about hurting someone hed just let rip and suplex taz on his neck and apply a submission move and let go after Taz had blacked out
