This could possibly turn into a weekly (or when I'm bored) thing. But probably not. The choice of director won't intrest most people on this forum. So the chances of it being a success is limited. Anywhoo. The basis of the thread is a very simple what is the best of............ thread. All very easy. If this gets a few people talking then I'll do an Arnold Schwarzenegger one next. On the poll there is a selection of 9 of his films that Kubrick did as director. I've chosen the ones that I think most people will have heard of, the other are listed below. But I doubt anybody would vote for those anyway. I'm sure most of you have seen The Shining, a fair few A Clockwork Orange and the odd couple of you should have seen at least one of the others. So which be his greatest film?

Other films as director:

Paths of Glory (1957)
The Killing (1956)
Killer's Kiss (1955)
The Seafarers (1953)
Fear and Desire (1953)
Day of the Fight (1951)
Flying Padre (1951)

That is an impressive resume of classic films. Now to be honest, I don't like Kubrick and have to confess that Spartacus is the only one of the films i've actually seen all off. I've seen parts of Eyes Wide Shut and thought it was awful. That being said, I was a good bit younger and confess to not actually understanding the film.

With all that being said, Stan Kubrick has turned out ridiculous levels of reknowned films, and from all of the Shining I've watched, it was freaky and pretty damn effective. Overall verdict - outstanding director, but I'm not a big enough fan of his films to give a fair rendering of his genius
