A Post Is Worth A Thousand Words
So we saw a promo for this guy last night on ECW....a promo that I thought was far too long and an actual commercial as opposed to something involved with the WWE lol. I kept thinking to myself "good lord, what stupid product is this trying to sell me, Levi's?"

What do you guys think of Kofi? Obviously we haven't seen him wrestle yet, so we can't judge him on that (unless you've seen his work in OVW or wherever he just came from). I for one HOPE he's good, but I don't have a strong feeling about him. His promo work was very flat and boring and am I the only one that sort of felt like he was a replacement for Carlito? Big hair, beach thing going on, etc...

His promo reminded me of Carlito. Maybe they are looking for another Carribean character due to the fact that Carlito is more than likely leaving the WWE. Hopefully he's better than Carlito.

well with carlito now staying i would like to see some sort of a tag team out of these two. they could move carlito over to ecw to give him more exposure and have him tag with kofi....it would be lie the rebirth of the wild samoans excpet these are the wild caribbeans!

IMO, this guy doesn't look too bad, I seen some of his matches from the development territory(DSW), and they weren't that bad, i believe they were against Tj Wilson, the guys special move he used was pretty cool, it was like a running spinning kick too the head where they referred too it as "cool runnings". I actually enjoyed his promo, I think the pauses in between the lines was a good way in developing his tone knowing that imo he will be a stereotypical Jamaican, because of the hair, the beach thing, and the pauses in between the lines, and it looks like he will be a face when he debuts because he was seen burying the bully in his promo. He will probably end up going to SD, but i think he could debut on ECW so he can get some exposure before he goes too raw and gets buried because of the stacked roster.

Why did they have to give him the last name Kingston? An actual city in Jamaica. To me that would've been like bringing in Lance Storm and renaming him Lance Ottawa or some shit. I'm all about new talent, especially if they're limber and can move a little bit, but doesn't anyone else get a "early 90's wwf" gimmick vibe out of this cat?

my first impression: Booker T ripoff. But he has an avenue that few have taken far with. He's of Caribbean decent and only a few have become champions. I think he s the 3rd major wwe superstar to have dreads in his hair (Mark Henry ). As for boring, I think he s got an interesting approach. He's got to prove himself still. Carlito s promos were mad funny, but he got to be his own person. I say wait and see.

I saw him in a dark match before raw last month. Can't remember who he wrestled but he won. He actually was pretty good in the ring, and even got a reaction from the fans. Thats pretty hard to do when you're pretty much a no-name

I agree, this kid needs time to shine, once he makes his debute then well see what exactly he can do in the ring, you never know we may get another main eventer on our hands for the ecw roster

I think that he has the poteintial to be a huge new addition to the roster of ECW as they need to showcase the young up and comers. I'm not liking this whole "Cool Runnings" gimmick of his. Of course, he could be getting groomed to be the next Caribean Cool as insurance, if Calito changes his mind and wants to leave again. I think that Kofi would have received a better run as a tag team wrestler, as the rosters are overflooded with great singles talent. I think that his whole credibility will depend in what kind of finisher he will be utilizing in the ring. A finisher can either make or break a wrestlers chances of getting over with the crowd sometimes.

Tonight on E.C.W. was the first time I witnessed his promos... & I have to admit, this is strangely bizarre. His promo was almost entirely the same as Carlito's, only it seems he's a face?? Correct me if my assumption is wrong.. but during the promo, he more or less stopped a guy from robbing someone - thus, he's a face.

I won't form a huge opinion on this guy until I can see what he looks like in the ring. Both, with his overall look, as well as his skills. Although, I have to admit, I'm NOT liking the renewed Carlito promos.. I think this is laziness on behalf of the creative team for W.W.E., to not be capable of thinking up something more original.

On one hand, I LOVE this guys look, and he looks like he could be a pretty good athlete. Has the look to go far....

but this gimmick is terrible...for one, its alread been used, and is being used at this very moment by carlito, AND Umaga to a certain extent (being that becuase of tropical decent they are "different")...I cant see him taking this gimmick to any serious height, or even getting over with it at all, as fans will be bored with seeing another, albeit black and more built, carlito.

I think they could do a lot with this guy, just not with this gimmick. Hopefully he stays around long enough to get repackaged.

I just checked out a match he had with TJ Wilson on YouTube...Kofi looks like he could be pretty good. I agree with Norcal, though, that his gimmick is going to get annoying after a little while, but it looks like he's talented enough to be the next Booker T.

This Kofi guy reminds me of ron killings to be honest similar build hair style etc and with killing now in wwe i just feel the two will be kind of alike. i dont really know how kofi will get over with the fans with those lame promos that bill him as a lifeguard and dnt show him beating people up, they should be airing these promos on smackdown and raw saying hes coming to ecw to try get him some exposure or else he will be buried, i would like a ecw stable with armando in it to attakc smaackdown he would be a good candiadate

When I first saw Carlito's promos before his actual WWE debut, I didn't know what to think. But I am a big fan of Carlito. Now I am seeing this all over again and I'm liking where this is going. Kofi Kingston will be better than Carlito in my eyes. He seems to be good in the ring and gets good crowd reaction, why not look forward to his debut? No doubt Nunzio will get his ass whooped yet again!

I wish the guy would just be on smackdown as I know ECW is the farm league, but Kofi doesn't look Extreme. He should be on Smackdown as they need a mid-card face as Palumbo is looking to turn.

i honestly think that kingston will add some form of life to the ecw brand, from what ive seen he could be a good wrestler but i could be mistaken but we just have to be patient and see...and by the way kofi isnt from samoa hes from jamaica

ok So i just saw this cat Kofi wrestle. I was very impressed. I'lll admit I was a little biased heading in as I didn't want to like him(don't bother asking y lol) but , god dammit, that guy was good. I'm looking forward to seeing him against non jobbers on smackdown

after watchin ECW tonight Id say this could be a good sign for the future, while the match did no impress me much I saw alot of potential in this kid, he is very athletic and seemed to be able to get the crowd into his match in his debut which is quite impressive, from all Ive read from house shows many reports have said that his matches with Elijah Burke have been the best matches of the night so he obviously has in ring talent, Id say this is a good sign for the future and the best part is he will only get better with time

He would have looked even better if they put him against someone who knew what he was doing. Seriously, why make him face that fake ass wannabe Tomko in his debut. At least give him a mid-carder than can carry a match. They should have let him face Nunzio or Shannon Moore.

I was actually very disappointed with this match. However, I don't think most of that was Kofi's fault - seeing as how I mentioned before how good he was against T.J. Wilson in that match on YouTube. Batista Jr or whatever he was called...Owen, something? Whatever. He was the one that messed it up, it looked like.

Very sloppy match, but that's what you'll get when you have new talent against a jobber. A combination of debut-jitters + not even working with someone like Nunzio that is a solid jobber = the match we saw tonight.

Still, Kofi has a lot of potential, I think.

I was impressed with Kofi as well. For it being his debut, the crowd sure seemed to like him. 2 Reasons why I watched ECW last night was 1. To see some more entrances on the new cool HD Set, and secondly, I knew Kofi was debuting so I wanted to see that. He is cool. I agree though he needed to face someone like Nunzio to help put on a better match. That David Owen guy botched a few moves, that kinda blew the match a bit. But nonetheless Kofi has potential, 6 spots still left in the rumble, maybe he will be in that and ill get to see him live, thatd be neat.

Of course people like him, his character is Jamaican, and for some god damn reason us Americans just love Jamaicans, especially one's with dreadlocks. It's just some weird country-wide fetish we have.

But seriously, I thought Kofi was alright. Nothing special. I'm really probably going to end up disliking this character as a face, as I can't imagine him being too intimidating. I can already tell he'd make a much better heel. Some decent in-ring talent, granted from the limited amount of work I saw. Really, who was this jobber? I was saying the same thing as everyone else last night:
"Seriously? You really couldn't just feed Stevie Richards to this guy like you've done countless other times to guys like him? (Yes I'm a Big Stevie Cool fan) Kinda ruined the match.

God wrestling has become so damn predictable.

Kofi Kingston is good. He has charisma with his mannerisms, energetic promos and in-ring antics.

However, his debut match wasn't up par to my expectations. I don't blame it on him though. David Owen during the monkey flip threw off the pace and the same can be said when he caught the leaping forearm smash crossbody variation. So, I'm hoping he'll be facing someone like Elijah Burke soon and then we'll be able to see the better of Kofi.

Yeah i liked kofi's debut for what it was he looks kinda like a bigger black version of carlito which s not necessarily a bad thing but i am interested to see more of him just one question why dose he do that weird clap thing seriously

well i hope to see kofi more in the future. he did alot of moves that got me goin like that leg drop then that combo with the monkey flilp would of been amazing if a better wrestler.he reminds me of skinnier black hulk hogan like the way he got taunted with adrenaline. however the one thing i didnt like was his drunken master or whatever fighting style but i may get used to it sooon
