Kane

Occasional Pre-Show
Kane is one of the most developed, and underused characters ever in the WWE. He could one moment legitimately present a threat to Taker, then next week lose to Boogeyman (the way WWE books). We all remember the Katie Vick debacle, but I'm trying to compile a list of good, bad, and ugly Kane storylines, feuds, and events.

Y2J spilled coffee on him
The Kanenites
The Kaneroonie
Tagging with RVD
Tagging with XPac
Tagging with Big Show
Brothers of Destruction
Tagging with Mankind
Paul Bearer coming back
Losing the Mask
Became a psychopath in a straight jacket
Beat Austin for the belt, and lost it right back
Lita's baby
Anything else?

He also tagged with The Hurricane.

And of course there was that storyline around Wrestlemania 20 where he had that feud with the returning Undertaker who he buried alive at the previous Survivor Series, a feud that made him look extremely weak.

And there was Bad Blood 2004 when he got a title shot against Chris Benoit, a match that was overshadowed by the Triple H/Shawn Michaels Hell in a Cell match. Not to mention the next night on Raw Bischoff made a rematch for the title in which Kane could win any way his heart desired, but Benoit could only win by submission. Of course this was in light of what could have been considered a fluke win after Benoit defeated Kane with some sort of roll-up, similar to the first Cena/Umaga match. And Kane still couldn't get the job done.

Of course there was the feud with MVP, in which we saw him lose to MVP in a cage match. Yeah, he ended up getting to set MVP on fire, but how are you gonna have Kane lose to MVP fair and square in a cage match even if it is by escape?

I agree with scorpionz, poor Kane.

The WWE messed up big time in not having Kane and Taker keep up their Brothers of Destruction team. Could you imagine them versus Batista and John Cena at NWO? Id love it.

Kane is too overweight these days to do anything. He is getting too old and the gimmick is wearing off and he doesn't look the same as he did a few years ago. A mask won't save his tumbling career and the mid cards beckon for the time being, so I think he will gradually slide out from the WWE, because he doesn't have that much to offer judging by the shape he is in. Yes he has had a good career but I wouldn't like to see him as champion because like I said, he has nothing going for him anymore because his character has lost the feel it had a few years ago. He is past his prime and doesn't look like shaping up so I don't think he has much of a future other than jobbing and the imminent retirement soon.

His character was good considering he wasn't much of a wrestler, although he definitely had great matches, no doubt about that. He provided great moments and he was a legend of the business, but I hope he doesn't run his career by overstaying his welcome like some other wrestlers have. Those moments you listed were good, but the guy deserved a title run for his addition to the WWE, but a 1 week or day or whatever it was was not enough for a guy as good a charismatic wrestler as him. Kane lost his appeal a couple of years ago and has gone downhill since then, and I don't think they can do anything with his character anymore.

They build him up as a big name but really, they don't give him the push he needs to be a star. It's too late now but they could at least give him the title on Smackdown if their title division was dead, but it's not. The mask would give him some popularity but his gimmick has gotten stale over the years. He's not as demonic as he used to be and what's the point of having a babyface monster? Who's ever heard of someone helping to save you and still being called a monster? I don't get his current gimmick and I think he should get the title for at least a month even if he doesn't want it. He's had some of the dumbest storylines but still doesn't get anything. You're right though. He's on and off and never gets that push he needs. It's too bad it had to end like this though.

I disagree, even though kane is older and maybe past his prime, he can still deliver good matches. as far as kanes popularity, though a title opprotunity may have sliped through his fingers, he is still over with his fans, as evidenced when he is cheered when he enters the ring. I have always found kane entertaining, and i always will. kane actually wieghs less now than when he debuted (granting that 320 is his billed weight, he was billed at 326 when he debuted, he's probably more like 290 or 300 in real life) he can do pretty much all of his moves with accuracy, the only difference is he has developed knee problems that restricts him at times but he is still a better ring performer than most other superstars. I think that part of the reason kane's charater may have become less appealing was kane's decison to persue other options outside the ring, which took away his air time, and his decision to help put younger talent over. I want to see kane have one last run as champ and I believe that he still has what it takes, he just needs to be pushed correctly, I agree that he plays the idea heel and it really doesn't make since to have him as a face. Hopefully he's pushed back to the top after no way out and wrestlemania and maybe wwe will respect the legacy kane has built for himself despite the stupid and lame storylines he gets stuck with. And what gets me is that kane has never complained once about his career, not once, how unselfish is that?

I agree Kane deserves the title...the question is on wat show....if Undertaker wins the title at WM (which in all likelyhood will happen) then Kane probably wont be a contender for the title on SD becuz Taker more then less will be feuding with Batista for the title(which is horseshit seeing as how Kane has done 8 thousand more things for the company then Batista) So yeah i want Kane to be the Champion...but on which show.....Obviously not ECW becuz Lashely wont lose the title till the show is dead...and Raw has to many good heels that can feud with Cena along with HHH and Micheals...thoughts????

I personally want to know how they could've fucked up the Kane character more. He had everything when he debuted. He had one of the best gimmicked ever thought up in wrestling, and he was a monster. This guy was an untouchable beast that even The Undertaker had a hard time putting down. It seemed like there was no way to screw it up, but obviously I was wrong about that.

The first thing they did to screw him up was put the WWF Title on him for a day, and then have him lose to Stone Cold. That right there took away some of his monster momentum. After that it slowly got worse. Pointless Tag Teams and stupid storylines followed, with Kane jobbing more and more to undeserving champions. Kane becomes a cuddly teddy bear, kisses babies, does Kanearoonies, makes up a stupid name for the fans aka Kaneanites, and kills Katie Vicks, throwing his gimmick even further down the pisser. Then the unthinkable happens...

Kane's mask comes off. It looks like a bad move, but Kane's new dominatant heel presona seems to be back. He tombstones Linda on the stage, sets JR on fire, and beats the shit outta Shane McMahon. It seems the Kane's fresh new character could finally be what he needed to get to the top. He then ends up tapping out to Chris Benoit, and starts going downhill yet again. He feuds with Matt Hardy over Lita, gets Lita pregnant, and feuds with Snitsky who killed his baby. He loses to Snitsky, and is gone to make his movie.

He comes back, more pointless tag teams, losses to people he shouldn't lose too, gets thrown to SmackDown! after losing to Umaga, and now he's in a pointless feud with King Booker over throwing him out of the Royal Rumble, which he'll probably ultimately lose.

So my question is, how did WWE fuck Kane up so badly? I just don't get what they were thinking with him. He had everything, and now he's nothing more than a midcard jobber.

The worst thing they did was remove his mask. That ruined his image, the image that he was an unstoppable monster. The tag team with x pac was awesome though, and the storyline with Tori

The mask removal could have had an adverse effect but really it was just lack of passion by Kane that ruined his once fearsome gimmick. Now, he is too kid friendly and nothing like what he used to be. That mask was part of the character though, and he seemed to go downhill after he took it off. That took away the look he had. He is getting old though, so I am not surprised we are seeing what we are seeing by Kane on Smackdown. Both him and Taker have dropped off from what they used to be, but the problem stretches a long way past clothing. Age is a factor and I think Glen is ready to hang the boots up because there is not much left for him. It seemed likely the mask would be brought back but it would have lost the meaning that it had, so the fans didn't really care. He just doesn't look scary anymore, but looks fat and slow, and that is a sure sign of disinterest from him. But again, you have to think that the mask was what made him different, but I don't think it could revamp his fading character and career.

You have some good points HellBoundPower, and let's not forget that not only did he feud with Matt Hardy over Lita, he also wound up feuding with Edge over Lita after she ditched him for Edge at the end of the goldrush tournament...one of the worst scenarios for Kane imaginable. Was I the only one who found it unbelievable that he was practically crying over a woman? Ok, so Edge takes his woman, he shouldn't be crying about it, he should be getting some sweet revenge on Edge by taking his head off (don't get me wrong, I'm an Edge fan too, but fair is fair). But no, then Edge winds up wheeling Kane out of the arena on a stretcher.

And this Umaga thing...why do they feel Kane's not good enough to end Umaga's streak, but John Cena is? They have Kane job to Umaga multiple times, then they have John Cena beat Umaga twice. That's a pretty big travesty in my eyes. I even voted for Kane to face Umaga at Cyber Sunday because I wanted him to get another crack at the "samoan bulldozer". But I should have known they'd just have Kane do the job again like they did.

And Kane being exiled to Smackdown? Give me a break. I don't really have a problem with him going to Smackdown. He doesn't really seem to have much of a place there, but that's not really much different from Raw considering they had him challenging for the freakin' IC title there. But they way they had him go there, it was like he had to settle, not to mention how bad these "loser leaves Raw (and goes to Smackdown)" matches make Smackdown look. You never see a match on Smackdown where the loser leaves and goes to Raw, if you see a "loser leaves" match on Smackdown, you're not gonna see the guy again for a while.

Come on WWE, give Kane the title already. AND NO, NOT THE US TITLE!

Im surpised they never put Kane against Cena. That feud has potential.
