If you wanna get out of it, simply claim to know whoever is on trial. Although if they find out you don't know them.. I'm pretty sure you're going to jail.

Trust me you don't, it absolutely sucks, you sit in the most uncomfortable chair ever created for 8 fucking hours, being bored out of your fucking mind

I didn't get paid, didn't get free food either, they give you 90 mins. for lunch though, and yeah it's stupid minor shit like DUI's and crap, though the last day I was on call they called me in for jury selection on a case where some Bosnian dude that looked like Santino, was being charged for assault and battery, appeaently he and 4 other Bosnian guys called some other guy and told him to meet them at Starbucks, they then proceeded to beat the living shit out of him, Jury Selection lasted from 8:00am till 4:00pm, thankfully I wasn't selected (probably due to the fact that I kept falling asleep, LOL)

this is really not a good idea, cause during jury selection the guy on trial is there, so if you say you know them, and the guy on trial says "umm... no you don't" you'll be in some serious shit, some things that got people out of it where saying they have known people who were victems of similer crimes and as a result feel they are unable to be unbiased when it comes time to determine the verdict, another was the guy behind me saying that no matter what he believes the police are always right, shit like that seemed to get 3-4 people out of it right away

I was hoping it would get me sent home. Instead I had to stay and look at nasty child abuse pictures. I was sick, and if they ask me again I'll just take the fine.

Over here you can decline going the first time if you have a valid excuse. But if you're called up a second you have to. No excuses. Otherwise you get a fine of about 5 grand.

I'm gonna generally take the word of those who've done it. My friend included. Everyone says its a waste of time, its incredibly boring and sucks. I'd only be in for doing it if money were involved. But apparently none is, so it seems pointless.
