JR For Raw

Who elses misses the legendary (yes, i said it) pairing of Good 'Ol JR & Jerry "The King" Lawler??? IMO, its something that really made Raw what it is. And I don't care if anyone disagrees with that, trying to argue that commentators shouldnt make the show, but, in a way, they can really make it or break it, and are an integral part of it. Albeit, JR & King werent as good as they were several years ago when King played more of the heel role and would argue with/make fun of JR, but they were still virtually untouched by any other commentator pairing in the WRESTLING WORLD today IMO. But, unforunately, they were separated last year by the draft. And now, were stuck with Cole. HE SUCKS. But anway, the point of this thread is to see if anyone else is really misisng JR on Raw, and would love to have him back if possible (hmmm... drafts coming up...).

Yes. Cole has proven that he simply isn't capable of doing this job at the moment. JR and King are abotu as legendary as you can get as a team. JR and Tazz are jsut an odd combination to say the least and it would be good for both brands to switch them back. Call me nostalgic but there's nothing like hearing JR shout about something while Lawler makes some comment that makes absolutely no sense at all. They're not great as commentators, but they're great as a team if that makes sense. All for bringing him back.

I see what youre saying KB, and I agree with what you said about the pairings- JR & Lawler just WORK together. Some say theyre the best team of all time. Although I'm not sure of that either way, its almost a dumb move by the WWE to not have them together while theyre both still around commentating because theyre still undoubtedly an awesome team in their own right, and def the best around today. I would also argue that Cole & Tazz actually click decently well also. So I think it would make alot of sense if Cole & JR were switched back this year by the Draft.

I don't think they'll do it...

First, Vince is stubborn and won't admit when he's wrong...

But, I think the best chance we have, is sending Tazz to RAW, and King to Smackdown!

Do I want to see it? No, but I see that more realistic than a JR/Cole switchback.

Yeah, it's not the same without JR. Him and Lawler are hilarious and work awesome together. I know what you mean PTG about even Cole and Tazz working well together, it's been ok since the draft but both Smackdown! and Raw would benifit by swapping back, Cole and Tazz on Smackdown! and Lawler and JR on Raw - It's how it should be...

How about striker and grisham they work exremely well together and deserve a shot at the biggs, striker cares and is really into it, send them to smackdown, move cole and tazz to ecw (tazz in ecw i know it sounds crazy to only wwe officals) and get the team back together, lawler and king called the rumble alone its a perfect match, i hope we dont have to wait for the draft for them to correct a mistake.

Have to disagree on Grisham and Striker for Raw. If it were just Striker I could see it, but Grisham is about as worthless as a commentator can get. he just sits there and tries to sound cool but fails more and more every time. JR was upset and rightfully so about being sent to Fridays. How can he be on tuesdays? I understand that he's not what he used to be but he's still far ahead of any other commentator. ECW would be a slap in the face of him to me.

I happen to agree. There's just something about JR and King...they carry each other, I guess. They're clearly not what they're used to be, but they're still entertaining to listen to, if a little cringy at times. It makes me think what WWE will do when one/both of them retire. I know it's a long way off but y'know.

I think that the combination of JR and King is much much better than the combination of Cole and King, but the real problem, in my opinion, is the lack of a heel announcer.

The show just doesn't have that feel that there is someone constantly arguing over your viewpoint (if you are a mark for the faces), and to me, it gets annoying hearing BOTH Cole/JR and King/Tazz root for the faces.

King is a legendary heel announcer, and really needs to go back to being one. Him arguing with JR was epic, and him arguing with Cole back in the Attitude era, well, that was just flat out amazing. So, I don't think it is extremely necessary to switch the announcers, as much as it is to have King go back to being a heel.

The best thing for raw is to make 3 way commenting= King, JR, and Tazz.

Of course, that's the ideal situation, if it were to happen, it would leave sd! and Ecw absolutely unwatchable.

However, having King and JR on RAW is the best option they can get.

JR to Raw is clearly the best option here. He is never going to be on ECW, that would just be a demotion and an insult..and let's face it, the man is a Hall of Famer. I also think moving King to Smackdown along with JR would be a terrible move. Yea you want to focus on Smackdown to, but Raw is still the flagship so you need at least one if not both of your best commentators on the show.
The whole reason JR, Hardy, and Trips were moved to Smackdown was to try to get good ratings when the show switched over to MyNetworkTV. They have been pulling in decent numbers, and I think it's now time to move everything back as it rightfully should be. I imagine Trips will be coming back over to Raw and one of the top stars on Raw will take his spot on Smackdown (Jericho, Punk, or someone like that). And I also believe JR will be coming back.
For my money, JR is the best wrestling announcer there ever was..and the team of JR and King is my favorite, even if they aren't quite as good as they used to be due to King not playing that heelish character anymore. But JR's shouting and emotion coupled with Lawler's funny remarks makes them blend perfectly together. They are trying to mold Cole to take Ross' spot, but he is just not even close. Hopefully we still have at least a few years of JR and King together, and all the better if it begins at the Draft.

I personally did not mind it. There was a need to freshen up the Raw commentary team for a while. I would have either moved J.R. or Lawler. I find it hard to believe that a draft where they brag that "No-one's safe" never had any commentator change shows.

I believe in freshening up the product. Triple H going to Smackdown made me interested in "Smackdown" again. But both Triple H AND J.R. made "Smackdown" not seem like the B-show any more. IT's about time "Smackdown" was taken seriously. If it proves a failure, they can always move him back to "Raw".

Personally, I thought that by the end of their association on raw, JR & King were nowhere near what they were back in the days. I mean they were actually agreeing on most stuffs.

I agree 100%. It just makes the show that much better when you have two announcers with two different viewpoints. Besides King was so great at playing the heel announcer. I don't know why the WWE wanted him to get away from that.

But I miss JR and the King announcing together on RAW. Cole and King aren't bad together, but it is not as good as JR and King. Besides, Cole and Tazz have great chemistry IMO and Cole would be better suited on SD. We have a draft coming up in two months so hopefully we will see JR back to RAW.

JR and Lawler are sort of like watching two buddies do their commentary on wrestling. Its like the Odd Couple or something. Sure, Lawler might not be fantastic at it, but he balances JR out. With comedy, you need the "straight man" to balance out the joker, and in many ways, Lawler is the joker with JR being the straight man, and while JR has a lot of energy, Lawler is more reserved to help bring him down.

Lawler/Cole have a relationship where it seems more like coworkers that are just doing their job and not enjoying it. Lawler will make cracks about Cole and get nothing in return. Cole will just repeat "vintage" over and over instead lol. Now, I'm not one of the people that absolutely hates Cole. I think he's better than what he gets credit for. But he's no JR, and he just doesn't work right with Lawler.

At the same time, I hate Tazz and Grisham. I just can't stand either of them. Grisham is very boring and I'd rather just listen to Striker by himself even, while Tazz is like putting a happy little dumbass on the mic lol. With the amount of times he stutters or mispronounces a word (my god, Tazz, its FRUStrated, not FUSStrated), its unbearable.

Striker/Grisham is too boring of a team. Striker doesn't have enough energy to balance out the extremely mild Grisham. Lawler/Cole just seems odd. JR/Tazz seems odd too because its like a tutor situation where one guy knows it all and his partner is a blubbering moron lol. What's tough, though, is if you match up Cole/Tazz, you get so much repetition that you pretty much have to block them out. The entire broadcast will be Tazz saying "I like this guy", "I'm a fan of this guy", and stuttering nonsense, while Cole says "shades of ____", "vintage ___", and "have you ever SEEEEEN" over and over.

I say, switch it up a bit. JR/Lawler on Raw, Cole/Striker on Smackdown since Cole has the energy to balance out Striker who is good for the wrestling knowledge, Tazz/Grish on ECW since they're the two worst.

I think that JR should return to Raw, not because the team of JR and Lawler is such a succes its because Michael Cole is just so horrible to listen to. I dont know what the hell went wrong. Cole was on a roll on Smackdown so time for a promotion? enter Raw. But now the man plainly sucks. He makes a lot of mistakes, oversells moves, and when something happens he doesn't give a realistic reaction like the one JR always made when some weird promo were to occur. I dont know the cause nor do I care. Somehow he's almost come to the level of Don West anoyingness. Sometimes I just mute the sound so I wont have to hear Cole. To be honest Lawler is also a piece of shit. Really the perfect combination should be JR and King or JR and Striker. But they should just get Cole out of there

NO!!! WWE should never do 3 way commentary again. Joey Styles, Coach and King drove me nuts! Even when it was J.R., Coach and King it drove me insane. Putting J.R. on Smackdown was the dumbest thing WWE did. When I think of J.R. I think of RAW, it's just how it should be. J.R. and King really helped RAW be so damn entertaining and Vince thinks they are to "southern", what a crock. They are the best commentary team in wresting history and it was a total waste of draft pics to switch Cole and J.R. Cole doesn't work well with King at all and is a very boring commentator. He never has any enthusiasm and makes RAW really boring to listen to. I hope to god they bring J.R. back to RAW and reunite him with King. It's the way it should be.

yes i agree jr and king is as good as it gets if somebody says commentary doesnt matter in wrestling go and watch christian's return to wwe in ecw and how unexited the commentary was , just imagine jr if christian went to smackdown jr wouldve had an orgasm lol

This is like the equivalent to people wanting to new E.C.W. to still be like the original. We need to just move on, it's for the best.

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler were a great pair, but since neither have really done anything. Maybe you can chalk it up to two halves not being the same without playing off the other.. or maybe you can chalk it up to time changing, and both of them simply running out of things to finally say.

Cole has the personality of a fucking doorstop. But he's new(ish). They really need to start developing new commentary talent, as Lawler isn't getting younger and hasn't been entertaining since, well since the Harts were in the business. And Ross hasn't done hardly anything ear-gripping since Steve Austin was with us. We need that new pairing that will lead us into the future.. not the old school reformation, that'll just stale us even more.

Grisham and Striker are not the answer. Maybe for a 3rd rate Brand, or possibly even Smackdown, but not Raw. Tazz has amazed me that he's gone this far without pissing someone off for just randomly finding new ways to talk out of his ass.

I say bring in a couple fresh faces. Even former Wrestlers, like Shane Douglas, or Tony Schiavone. I honestly miss hearing him.

Bringing Ross back to Raw will not improve the show. In fact, Cole with Lawler is a better idea, as it splits up the two "legends" and gives them "understudies," if you will.

I disagree with Will. Grisham and Striker are the answer. At least...right now. The ECW announce team is the best in the business right now, and that is mostly because Striker is the best color guy I've heard in years.

You want to look to the future?? And bring back Tony Schiavone at the same time? Don't get me wrong...Schiavone is my favorite announcer of all-time for strictly blind-mark purposes, but he doesn't really have "future" written on him. Not to mention, I would think that if Tony was interested, he would have been working with the company quite awhile ago...likely at the beginning of the brand split. Schiavone is better than Michael Cole.

Their ace in the hole is Joey Styles. They are really wasting one of the all-time greatest voices in professional wrestling history by having him behind the scenes. I hope Styles requested this...otherwise, I just don't see the logic in this.

JR does not need to be on Raw. He's almost done in wrestling, Michael Cole is doing a fine job, and it's time the WWE and it's fans to move on.

I just miss the old heel Lawler. I hate all face announcing teams. For one its nice to have a heel announcer to try to put the heel wrestler over and for another I find it more entertaining seeing the announcers disagreeing about things instead of rooting for the same people.

I liked JR and The King when Jerry Lawlor was a heel announcer. I always thought they worked better that way.

Both are still good but they were getting pretty stale. I would love to see WWE go back to a face and heel tandem at the broadcast booth.

I agree with all who say that there need to be heel commentators. JBL/Cole. JBL was an AWESOME heel commentator. I was hoping that Striker, since he's a heel, would be a heel commentator.
How about JR/Striker? They might be able to play off each other a bit...

I agree that they need to bring back Joey Styles. He's my favorite.
