JoMo On The Way Up ???

The Roid Rage

Getting Noticed By Management
As I was looking on the Wrestlezone main page at some of the articles I noticed that John Morrison has a DVD coming out. I also noticed in a thread that someone mentioned that DVD was to be released in February towards the end of the month. This caused me to ruminate for a while on what that might mean, if it means anything, and if it does what it might be pointing to? SO let's get this going shall we?

What might this mean ?: Well, it might be an indicator that JoMo is about to break on through to the other side, meaning the main event scene. The only problem with that idea though, is that it seems he is in the middle of a feud with Drew McIntyre. With that being the case there is really no telling how long that feud will run, if he will regain the Intercontinental Title as a result of that feud, and if he ends up on the loosing end of it if he will go up, down, or stay the same.

It could also be the beginning of a monster push as well. Normally when a guy gets a DVD made about him that would mean good things are in the works, but what?

If it means anything ?: Does it really mean anything? Am I reading too deeply into this? Or is this really the start of something to come? Is it kind of a hint or clue to something big about to happen with JoMo ? That is something I am hoping some of you are up to answering along with me. I just don't see why they would put the effort into making a DVD about him if they A. weren't about to push him to the moon, or B. didn't have any intentions of having him win something bigger than a mid card title. Of course, there is still the possibility than I am jumping the gun on this, and that it really means nothing. It could simply be an attempt at getting some fan support behind him too. That is why I am asking all of you though. To get a clearer perspective on the scenario.

If it does , What it might be pointing to?: Looking at the date of intended release which is supposed to be late February, that puts the release after Royal Rumble, possibly right before or after the Elimination Chamber ppv, and just a month prior to Wrestlemania. So, could that mean a Royal Rumble win ??? I highly doubt it. God only knows who is going to win the Rumble and it probably won't be a guy like Morrison because ya know, that might be cool or something and catch people by surprise, so that idea is out.

Then however we go to Elimination Chamber. If I am not mistaken, this pay-per-view will have a Smack Down and a Raw elimination chamber match correct??? If so, it's not so far fetched to believe that maybe Morrison would A. be in it, and B. win it possibly. That alone carries it's own implications that I need not explain.

Then there is Wrestlemania, where he could very easily be in the MITB match. Since JoMo has been in that one a few times now, I could see this as being his time to win it, if indeed he is in the match. Then you have to ask yourself, how would he use it, and when?

Take a minute, chew on that, and tell me what you think.

First of all, I was wondering about this, too. I did not expect a John Morrison DVD to come out anytime soon. He is 30 years old right now, (good age for a push), and debuted in WWE in 2003, and became "Johnny Nitro" in 2004. He won the World Tag Team Championship once, WWE Tag Team 4 times, and Intercontinental 3 times. He also won the ECW title once, for somewhere around 2 months, and lost it because he violated the wellness program thing.

So... he hasn't done too much in his career. I have to give him credit, though. He is a GREAT wrestler and could very well be the future of the company. His match with Rey was arguably the best match on Smackdown! in 2009. Not to mention that he is very over with the fans. He works well as a face. The only problem with him is that his mic skills are terrible. He is much like Shelton Benjamin in ways.

Take a minute, chew on that, and tell me what you think.

Well, I've chewed on it for a while now. In fact, I put salt and pepper on it, bitten it to shreds, and swished it around in my mouth. And then I swallowed it. Because that's what you do when you eat stuff (I'm looking at you Helen).

Anyways, this is great and definitely means John Morrison is getting a push. Although I think it's a little too soon for JoMo to get a DVD, considering he hasn't even won his first World Title yet, the release of this movie means that his push is not far behind.

i think this is great. I enjoy JOMO, however, he hsnt had to much of a career. Give him another push. He got a huge push when he faced Jeff hardy for the title, why not igve him another cahnce at some real gold? and his mic skills are terrible. wtf he dressed up scotish, talked a whole bunce of crap, and then cut himself with a sword?? LOL work on it john so you can get another push

I thought his mic work was much better when he was a heel but your right as a face it isnt great. As for his in ring skills he is a favorite of mine and think he definatly deserves a push but in the draft he should stay on smackdown and get to the top in about a year.

John Morrison started shining when he turned face, but is now floundering in the mid-card, he needs the same sort of rub that Kofi is receiving, have a main-eventer interact and put him over, and its only a matter of time before he can start receiving title shots without it seeming like a Sheamus Stretch.

Have Batista end this with Rey, lose to Undertaker, and then John Morrison enters a feud with Batista for a few months, then end it at the rumble and have another main eventer from Raw cheat him at the Rumble (Think Angle-HBK at Royal Rumble 05/Lesnar-Goldberg in 03), I'm thinking someone along the lines of Big Show, so he has a good match at Mania to enter into, I think its too soon to have him going for a title at Mania this year, and I wouldn't have him win the Money In The Bank, merely because I think that it's a heel way of winning a match, unless you turned him into Cena, have him win MITB then at the beginning of a main event, make him come out and turn it into a triple threat.

Come out of mania, then he has CM Punk or Jericho to go against, THEN give him a legit title shot.

As for the DVD and what it means, I would say it is a good sign that the WWE are going to get behind him and don't plan on getting rid of him anytime soon, but as for title aspirations I wouldn't say it means a great deal. John Cena had a DVD just after he won the US title, the WWE don't miss a shot at making money.

I don't know why a Morrison DVD is being made when he hasn't done a whole lot that would be remembered. This could actually be worse than the Kane DVD in my opinion. I don't think this means anything in terms of Morrison getting a push. Ted DiBiase has a movie out and he isn't getting any push for the forseeable future. John Morrison is still behind Batista, Taker, Mysterio, and Punk in the Smackdown totem pole. I can see Punk working with Morrison in a similar way that Orton is doing for Kofi. Morrison would benefit working from Punk as John still needs to work on his mic and in-ring skills a bit before he is main event ready.

Give him another push. He got a huge push when he faced Jeff hardy for the title, why not igve him another cahnce at some real gold?

I think this is right on point. I believe that just by sheer exposure he could solidify his place in the top of the card. All you have to do is give him some main event competition. As stated before, a rub like Kofi is getting right now would do him wonders. Maybe right now isn't the time, but I think it needs to come in the not so distant future if they are going to bank in on this guy.

As for the mic skills arguments. I think his mic skills are just fine, I think they are actually pretty good. The way he talks is a perfect expression of his character, kind of goofy, kind of out of it head in the clouds, kind of cocky. It all goes together. I think most of the time he is just hilarious. It was the Dirt Sheet segments that really first started to get me to pay attention to him again. I had liked him in M-N-M but wasn't so high on him being in a tag team with the Miz. Once I saw the stuff he and Miz were doing on the Dirt Sheet it made me and obviously many others take notice.

I don't think his character is supposed to be like a Jericho or Punk on the mic, or even faces like Cena and D-X. His speech is functional. Besides, people talk about JoMo being so horrible, but what about Kofi? He can't carry a promo to save his life.

The signs are all there for John Morrison to become the next main eventer and anyone saying otherwise has a slight, and I mean a slight, chance of being correct. The things that can stop John Morrison are the upper management and injury. But even then, the fans would probably push for Morrison to rise up to the occasion and if he did get injured (let's hope not) he will come back stronger than ever. If you don't believe me, here are a few points to consider:

  • John Morrison, as I have already stated, has a fan following. Ever since he stepped into the persona of Johnny Nitro he had a glimmer of hope in his eyes. When MnM came about, you could instantly tell this man had something to offer. Whether heel or face, people would consider that portions of what they are paying for their ticket is dedicated to see Morrison.
  • He has one of the most unique movesets in the company. Sure, the man is very flashy and does quite the amount of spots, but at least he is giving something different from the norm. Most of the main event guys like Cena throw out a few simple moves, get beaten on and come back with their signature flow until they hit their finisher. Morrison at least does things through the match that keeps you interested as he could potentially innovate or perform modified moves on the fly.
  • He has been in the midcard region for a while and has performed well with whoever he was given. He has been on RAW, SmackDown and ECW as a solo midcarder holding the IC title a few times (with good reigns as well), alongside being mixed into tag teams and gaining championship gold (as well as capturing major interest). Morrison also held the ECW title (although it was an unfortunate fluke shot as how he won it). He has paid his dues with the company and there is nothing else for Morrison to do but go up.
  • John Morrison has gone up against the best there is to offer and he has defeated them. Many names like CM Punk did hold World Title gold and become main eventers in their own rights. He has also been in feuds with Punk (something I consider one of the best of the modern era) and has done well to be in them.

There are numerous other reasons I could state, but my post would get too long. If you can make an impressive list from any other mainstay midcarder like Morrison, it indicates that it is their time to move on up. I hope the WWE know how to book him. He may not be ready for the World title, but he sure is ready to be one of the big boys.

JOMO does need a push, but maybe it'd b something that noone expected. say, him winning the Royal rumble. that would give him a huge boost AND put him in the World Title picture. It's probably not going to happen with all the other people that hav a possibility of winning, but it wouldnt be so bad if it happened, right?
