John Cena's Fan Base Breakdown

I thought it would be interesting to break down the different sections of John Cena's fan base and debate if a heel turn would turn that section against Cena.

1 Women. Love him or hate him you gotta admit Cena is a chick magnet. Every WWE event I've been to women just love the guy because he's a good looking cat. A heel turn would have no effect on his female fan base at all. Cena could kick kittens in the ring and every single female in the building would still adore him.

2 Kids. Kids love him because he's sorta that over the top cartoon super hero that 4 to 12 year olds love. He's the g.i. joe to cobra. Would a heel turn make kids hate Cena. I think it's a toss up. I think the younger kids would boo Cena but the pre teens would dig an edgier heelish Cena.

3 The blacks. They cheer Cena because they relate better with Cena's hip hop background. Most blacks don't know that pro wrestling is scripted so a heel turn would most likely cause this section of Cena's fan base to turn against him.

I mean, I was following everything you had to say waiting for somewhat of a point to be made, and then grouping #3 came. First off, saying "blacks don't know pro wrestling is scripted" is possibly one of the most uneducated, dumbfounded, idiotic thing I've read in awhile. That's just an ignorant remark, making me lose almost all credibility in your post.

But anyways, yes kids love Cena. That is the point of his character. Kids way back when had Hulk Hogan as their idol. Cena is somewhat of a modern day version of Hulk Hogan (please don't take this too literally). He's exactly what kids can look up to and cheer for. He "is against all odds" and lives by "honest ethics". Kids should love that, almost like he's a hero.

But as the infinite thread idea of Cena turning heel continues, I just want to point out that I see no point to doing it. His character has transformed in front of us all, because of us, and some just don't care or understand. Instead of being a shoved down babyface, the hatred for his character from older fans has paid off, as WWE is now striving off it creating us as his "haters", another thing for kids to admire to.

I am sick of the gimmick as much as anyone else, but the way they've transformed him and the way they are doing all of this works well. I'm now into Cena as his title involvement has dwindled. He's the biggest star, he's been established, and it's all leading up to a match we all will be watching. He's going to look insanely fresh (as in new moves, more energy, etc.) and it will be awesome. I'm a fan of this match.

Cena was good as a heel in 2002-2003, but this time, I think he'll fall flat on his face. His acting abilities just plain withered away.

Is that true what you said about blacks? I haven't seen any black cena fans in the crowd. And that 1 guy cena always hugs in the front row who wears a "we hate cena" shirt, is black. So I dunno, maybe you can post a screencap that may prove your point that he has many black fans. I know the Rock has tons of black fans, along with every other race.

Idk about your point that most blacks don't know it's scripted. I know that most cena fans don't know it's scripted, and they tend to write with poor grammar and spelling. But who knows what race they are.

But I dont see a point in turning Cena heel, this has never been done in wrestling before having half the crowd boo and half the crowd cheer (give or take on certain nights) so why ruin it? Its similar to Bret Hart being face in Canada and heel in the States.

The IWC always wants wrestling to evolve and want something new and here you have something new and everyones bitching because hes not turning heel. As soon as he goes heel you will want him face again. Just let it go I think its awesome to have a split crowd every night. It didn't happen over night, but he won me over by having great matches (Even though his haters can't give him credit for them) and his ability to deal with the negative nancey's. The way he handled the crowd at One Night Stand against RVD was awesome. I enjoy seeing grown men piss the bed because Cena wins a match, cuts a promo or continues to breathe on this planet. He's a straight up awesome performer so he's probably never going to lose me.

With that said I don't see an upside to killing off your top merch seller, your main stream media poster boy, and for the love of God those poor make a wish kids. I don't think those kids really want a visit from the ever so snarky CM Punk.

I'm not seriously saying to base the creative direction of the show on the make a wish kids. I am however saying that there are entertaining things to do with John Cena without turning him heel. Example, his feud with Punk was interesting. His feud with Kane was interesting, his feud with the Rock is getting interesting. Over all he's more useful to the company if they keep him baby face but keep giving him interesting things to do. People are going to complain either way, but maybe if the WWE annoys them long enough they'll just go away so the less obsessive fans can enjoy the show in peace. One can dream, right?

I think all of the general public, men and women, would take offense to Cena kicking an animal in the ring... animal cruelty is still as unpopular as ever. Point being, I would debate whether Cena is bulletproof. I'm not so sure if the ground for "women being utterly controlled by their emotions" is strong enough to stand on. Many of the characteristics of a heel such as running their mouth, cheating during competition & exhibiting poor sportsmanship, as well as general cowardice still aren't super popular with the entire female demo, ya know?

Kids, based on the idea that they like Cena because he's a "superhero" would probably dislike him should he become a villain. I didn't watch a whole lot of WCW, but from what I understand Hogan's initial heel turn there is usually considered successful. It pissed a lot of people off. A good friend of mine got rid of his Hulk Hogan wrestling buddy because he felt so betrayed. It could likely work for a new generation of youngsters.

Um... Cena hasn't used the hip hop character for years. His music is almost the only evidence that still remains of that character so I don't think we can make any relevant point out of that. That's as far as I have to go there. As a side note, I'm neither woman nor child but I am a fan of Cena. It wasn't overnight, though. Cena has taken a lot of unnecessary flack for decisions that weren't his own and at one point I bought into the anti-Cena mentality. Probably I was just jealous.

So to extend on this... a Cena heel turn would have to be pretty spectacular if they got me to buy into it, because I'm just someone who picks favorites based on other qualities besides their babyface/heel status. And back to the subject of breaking down the fanbase. I don't think it's as simple as people make it out to be. It's not just women and kids who like Cena. I think his supporters are more diverse than his detractors who are mostly in their mid teens to early 30s and tend to spend a great deal of time on the internet.

This is a first for me; I'm going to argue with myself. I already admitted that I'm not a woman so my statement about what traits women like is without merit.
