Jimmy Barnes/Cold Chisel

Sparky

Master of the Aussie kiss
Before I begin this isnt a tritop or whatever. Its just seeing who else likes Barnsey.

Now when people say Australian Singers, The first name that comes to my head is this one. Jimmy barnes. He would have to be the greatest Australian Solo singer to date. With songs like

Khe Sahn

Flame trees

and of course
Working class man

Its not hard to see why.
What is your views on This guy, have you heard of him before? do you like him? If you havent heard from him before, what did you think of the videos posted?

Personally, I am a big fan of Jimmy. There isnt a song I have heard from him that makes me think, Wow this is crap. Whenever I am in a pub and Jimmy comes on in the back ground, Everyone starts singing along. he knows how to sell out a concert, and is still going today. even with major heart complications. For that he is my hero. My favourite songs would have to be the ones i posted in the videos.

(side note. Just a pity his daughter didn't inherit his singing skills.

Okay, so, the thing is I've not heard of this gent before. Honestly, apart from Keith Urban, the last Australian musician or band I've heard of was The Living End. But I must say, the vids you posted of him really showed that Americans are severely uninformed on talented Australians. Not to say TLE are untalented, but this guy totally puts them to shame. I do indeed like him, the soul he puts into his music, and all that sort of stuff. Sorry, I'm rambling cause I was out celebrating the Feast of St. Patrick with some friends. I'll just end by saying, I hope Jimmy tours the States, like, tomorrow.

I'm glad you gave him your time, he is worth it.

Really? there is alot more.

People would dispute that they aint his best songs, but they are my favourite and I think that if people on the forum liked any, they would like them.

He puts most singers to shame.
I do indeed like him, the soul he puts into his music, and all that sort of stuff.
You should see him at a concert, He really shows the emotion in his face, sometimes when he is screaming so loud, it looks like he is trying to squeeze out a shit after being constipated for a week.
I hope Jimmy tours the States, like, tomorrow.
Sadly, I would be very surprissed if with his medical conditions, he will ever perform a tour of Australia, let alone the USA.

Wait, is Butterfly Boucher from Australia? 'Cause I do enjoy her music, alot.

Also, is he in seriously bad health? If so, what's the Ailment?

Yep, its his ticker. Ironically enough caused by his singing. as he yells his songs, rather then sings them quietly. My mum has been to two concerts of his, one when she is 18 and one last year(she is 37 now do the maths.). She said that he sounded the exact same. So thats pretty amazing. but I don't know how long he will last for career wise. It's not a major condition for everyday life, just his music. When he goes on concerts he has to have ( i think) a week between shows, so he can rest.

I'm a fan of Barnesy, Khe Sahn is one of my favourite Chisel songs. Along with Cheap Wine. I would go and see him where he is playing in New Zealand but the tickets for that are for the upmarket people since it is at a vineyard.

I'm renaming this thread to include Cold Chisel as well, great Aussie band, one of the greatest Aussie bands, and that is including Midnight Oil, Men at Work and "30 Odd foot of grunts", as well as others like Rose Tattoo and AC/DC.

Yeah Barnsey and Cold Chisel are Australian music icons and legends.

Khe Sahn is an amazing song and many a time I have been to the pub when this hits the jukebox and the entire pb will break out into song, its like an Australian anthem really.

I think he was great with Chisel, but I do believe he has really forged ahead once he split from the group.

All time fav Barnsey song would have to be Working Class Man, classic.

Good old Barnsey. Love him, and Cold Chisel. I love all their songs, Breakfast at Sweethearts, Khe Sanh, Flame Trees, When The War Is Over. They're all great songs. He has a great voice, and no matter what he's singing, you can always sing along to it. In fact, my band does a cover of Khe Sanh, and we all end up singing along to it. :D Cold Chisel songs are the sort of songs that are really catchy, and everyone likes. I just wish the band would reform so I could go see them all in concert.
